‘Skiart Serif Mini’ is now available online. Originally inspired by the san serif font ‘Skia’ by Mathew Carter for Apple. ‘Skiart’ was designed to feel more like a serifed font, but without any serifs. It took a step between sans serif and serif fonts. Next on the path towards a serif font comes Skiart Serif Mini, with tiny serifs added. This is a true serif font, all be it on the small side. It remains fully readable and feels as clean and normal as any of the best body copy serifs, and yet still has the strong solid bones of all the other Skiart font familys. If compared to one of the more commonly used serifs like ‘Times New Roman’, the ‘Skiart Serif Mini’ lowercase is more open with a taller x-height, increasing its readability and friendliness. The serifs are smaller and less distracting. They are not pretending to be ligatures. Where ‘Times’ makes its p q b d forms out of a barely touching oval and stem, the ‘Serif Mini’ forms are much more firmly attached, appearing clearly as single letters. The standard setting for the g’s are round single storied, (the italic a’s are also), feeling warmer and more inviting in the ‘Serif Mini’ font. Much more friendly than the stuffy double storied versions in fonts such as ‘Times’ etc.

Tertius, with its high ascenders and clubbed serifs, is a modern interpretation of the classic Carolingian style (7th - 9th centuries AD). There was no capital form in the Carolinian hand and Roman square capitals were originally used with it. The Carolingian hand began, after a while, to develop more cursive tendencies as people looked for a way to speed up the writing process. I have “capitalized” on this trend and have devised an appropriate and dramatic set of flowing capitals for this family. With its elegant swashes and bold letter shapes, Tertius embodies the romance of medieval life, of knights, castles, and chivalry. JY Pinnacle is a distinctive text family, with at least 3,100 kerning pairs (for text fonts) and collections of alternative characters for roman, italic and cap and small cap. Pinnacle has an awareness of tradition, but is individual and fresh. Its oblique axis for lowercase letters such as the o and e is meant to aid legibility.

Goudy Titling was designed by Steve Matteson. It is based on the 2" wood engravings Frederic Goudy made for his book ‘The Trajan Capitals’ - a seminal book about the history of the Roman letter. These letterforms predate the work of Father Catich’s exhaustive study of the Trajan Column and, while remarkably faithful to the inscription, have Goudy’s interpretive fingerprints.

Romulo is a Roman typeface, inspired by the shapes and proportions of those used between the 19th and 20th centuries. Its height X is compensated to facilitate reading in blocks of text, providing readability in small bodies. With a crystalline appearance, it has a wide variety of Open Type functionalities that covers all the needs of the demanding designer.

As an ironic gloss on the unsophisticated “typewriter” genre, the Bodoni Egyptian Mono typeface channels the classic dignity of early 19th century letter forms, presenting a quite proper family of OpenType fonts, with a copious range of OpenType features—small caps, fractions, superior and inferior figures, alternate old style figures—rendered throughout five weights in both roman and italic.

Roncial is an Ultra Bold font with a hint of serif. This is one of the fonts originally designed before the advent of digital and started out being a bolder, slightly serifed version of Folio Extra Bold which was one of the boldest fonts at the time (old metal set). It is available as Roman and Italic.

ITC Symbol font was designed by Aldo Novarese, a simple, straightforward design of understated elegance. It has just the hint of a serif to aid legibility. This elegant face with a few semi-script flourishes is based on Morris Fuller Benton’s Announcement Roman, designed for American Type Founders in 1917. It’s perfect for invitations, programs and all kinds of formal ballyhoo. All versions of this font include the Unicode 1250 Central European character set in addition to the standard Unicode 1252 Latin set.

Amersham is a family of three copperplate display roman typefaces inspired by traditional sign writing techniques. The family consists of three typefaces which can also be overlayed to achieve multiple coloured typography. Use the Amersham family for headings, posters with a period theme and signage with flair. Just the thing for a retro-CD cover as well.

El Franco is a family designed by Ethan Dunham that represents what Roman lettering looked like in the 16th century. Derived from a typographic sample of Francisco Lucas, 1577, this font captures the feeling of rustic times. It comes in two versions regular and distressed. The distressed version has been weathered to appear old and worn.

Although designer Michael Gills was influenced by 18th century French type designer Pierre-Simon Fournier, Charlotte is best described as a modern roman typeface. Its clean cut style, accentuated by a strong vertical stress and unbracketed serifs, exudes an authoritative tone, guaranteeing its effectiveness for almost all text setting applications, but especially where a formal unmannered appearance is desired.

Hand lettering of the song title on the 1914 sheet music for “Dear Old Girl” was the working model for Old Songs JNL. A condensed Roman typeface available in both regular and oblique versions, this titling font exhibits a casual, nonconformist design that isn’t quite traditional, nor is it part of the Art Nouveau movement popular at the time.
