Penna is a calligraphic type system designed by Pedro Leal. Amidst the four available styles you get four different ascender and descender styles, two different styles of starting and ending swashes, a plethora of ligatures and several other features. Our font (circa 1895) of this old wood type was made by Hamilton of Two Rivers, Wisconsin, but we have been told that another identical font was made earlier by W. H. Page, Greeneville, Connecticut. Hamilton became the final home of many of the old wood type patterns as the early companies went out of business.

IngyArrows is a set of three fonts with three sets of arrows, with one of them a blend of the other two, where normally there are standard numbers, letters, and punctuation marks. The revision of 2011 added many of the arrows that exist in several places in the unicode codings and that cannot be accessed by normal keystrokes.

Playing with old rub-on letters led to this alphabet. On the Letraset sheets (the older ones still remember...) there were always letters left over that were never or rarely used. I sometimes let interns play with it. To explain, I first rubbed an example myself. Two y's from a Helvetica made a pretty shape. Looking closely, you see a contoured, italic N. I developed the HGB Ypsilon font from this N. A purely decorative typeface – it could be interesting for some logo.

Bodoni Classic Ultra is my really fat, high contrast extension to my ever expanding Bodoni Classic family. The Script cut is very decorative, the italic cut can be mixed with it to give it a calmer touch.

Plastilin type family of two weights obtained its name due to the soft, curved, stroke terminals of characters (J, K, L, R and others) and the little pointed serifs, as if extruded from stroke plastic mass. The character set has a lot of additional Latin and Cyrillic ligatures, as well as several alternate letter forms. Plastilin was designed for ParaType by Oleg Karpinsky in 2005. It is for use both in display setting and short text passages. In 2008 the author added two weights (Light and Black) and improved letterforms of some characters.

I used a technical pen to the trace the letters in an alphabet learning book for this font. Of course, I drew several letters by freehand as if I were practicing, and included all of them together as a Stylistic Set.

I was commissioned by the Emporium (now Macys) to digitize Radiant Bold Extra Condensed (originally designed by Robert Middleton in 1940) for use in their Sunday supplement to the San Francisco Examiner. For several years, I stubbornly refused to add the lowercase letters to the font, because I thought it looked best just used with caps, but finally relented, added the lowercase letters and at the same time created two more weights as well: Light and Medium. Used very large and carefully, these faces can be quite elegant.

I've always loved drawing faeries and I love using them in my scrapbooking pages. The redefinition of a classic In the 1920s the Viennese government decided to standardize the street signs across the city. A typeface was especially constructed for the purpose. It was available in a Heavy and a Bold Condensed version, to support short street names as well as longer ones. As the years went by, the typeface was adopted and redrawn by several enamel factories. These adaptations lead to variations on the design, and to the fact that there isn’t a Viennese street sign font but 16 – in part severely – different versions. Henriette is not a digitization of any of those versions; rather, it is influenced by all of them. The italic versions are completely original and designed to accompany the Roman.
