The first Clarendon was introduced in 1845 by R. Besley & Co, The Fan Street Foundry, as a general purpose bold for use in conjunction with other faces in works such as dictionaries. In some respects, Clarendon can be regarded as a refined version of the Egyptian style and as such can be used for text settings, although headline and display work is more usual.

Named after the German Renaissance astronomer, Kepler is a contemporary type family designed by Robert Slimbach in the tradition of classic modern 18th century typefaces. Modern typefaces are known for their cool intellectual quality, but Slimbach's Kepler multiple master captures the modern style in a humanistic manner. It is elegant and refined with a hint of Oldstyle proportion and calligraphic detailing that lends it warmth and energy.

Who haven't heard the phrase that ‘any past time was better’?. Although I sometimes find this phrase a little too pessimistic (because I try to think that the best is yet to come), it may be true regarding my passion, typography. I'm too young (29) unfortunately, and this means I did not have the pleasure of being contemporary with maybe the man who has influenced my work the most (1). The man that showed that letters are more than just letters to be read. Herb Lubalin (1918-1981), also called sometimes as ‘the rule basher’ (2), smashed the taboos and sacred rules of type design and gave it personality. He rejected the functionalist philosophy of europeans in favor of an eclectic and exuberant style. To him, letters were not merely vessels of form, they were objects of meaning. (3). Nowadays, when looking at his portfolio, who dares to deny that the term ‘typography’ and ‘beauty’ may go hand-in-hand without any problem? Ed Benguiat, one of Herb’s partners, still likes making jokes with the phrase “screw legibility, type should be beautiful” and what I understand of this is not to forget the rules, but to know and break them carefully. In an era of pure eclecticism, we, the lovers of flourishes and swashes, can't do nothing but admire all the legacy that Lubalin, this wonderful type-guru, left. My font Lubaline read as “the line of Lubalin” is my humble tribute to him. Those who know his work, may see the influences easily like in his ‘Beards’ (1976) and ‘The Sound of Music’ (1965) posters; the art-deco forms in many of his amazing logos and practically in all his creations where letters seem to be alive just like you and me. I really hope that the future finds me still learning more and more about type-design and letterforms, and like him, always willing to make innovations in my field: Because letters are not just letters to be read. This monospaced version of Galix was commissioned in 2037 by the space exploration company Earth2, as part of a major overhaul of their branding, which had used, since 2021, a generic sans serif (much like every other company). Many specialists in both design and space exploration suggested that this very rebrand started a chain of events that concluded with the invention of time travel in 2041. Contrary to the perceived notion put forward in popular Science Fiction, time travel is only (as of now) possible in the digital realm. It was considered fitting that included among the first files sent back in time should be the Galix Mono typeface, which was remade in OTF format to ensure that it would work with the technology available in 2019. Earth2, for all their insight, did not foresee that the release of the typeface in September of 2019, would lessen the impact of their rebrand. What kind idiots would rebrand a forward looking company with a font that was, by then, almost 18 years old? The subsequent lacklustre response to the redesign didn’t inspire the tidal wave of R&D funding Earth2 had anticipated, and the company went into administration in the summer of 2039, having never invented the time travel which made the release of Galix Mono in 2019 possible. Experts believe that the files sent back in time, although their very sending made it impossible for them to be sent, remained as “time relics” of the future that might have been.

Since my first contact with blackletters in 1999, I became more and more fascinated by these artistic looking typefaces. It all started in the USA at the age of 16, when I took an art class. I decided to trace some blackletter typefaces because they looked very interesting. From this point on I was intrigued by blackletter fonts from all over the world. I studied their different body structures and their cultural background as well as the type designers behind it. Full of information and inspiration I started to draw my own blackletter typeface in 2006. While studying in Hamburg I got in touch with the studio of URW++, where I got skilled in type software and development. Creating a type takes an eye for detail and patience but also lots of time and so it took almost 4 years until the project was finished. And so Ruca was born. Ruca is a refined and expanded typeface. When you look at the spines, the tails or the flags you can see the detailed drawing, which makes the font also extremely good looking in very tall letters. The full character set contains over 400 characters, many ligatures, two number sets and all important currency symbols. Over 300 kerning pairs and many OTF-features make the font easy in use for professional type applications. The typeface is very well applicable for strong headlines and mastheads. Because of its unique appearance, Ruca is perfectly suitable professional graphic applications such as fashion design or branding.

Marit Otto about C-Nation: The building typeface. Although the 70ties were very liberating and progressive, still girls played mainly with dolls and sweet things and boys with all kinds of challenging stuff. They did all sorts of basic scientific experiments in mini labs and of course built cool things with Meccano building sets. As a girl I was perfectly happy with the toys I had access to. But at the same time I was very curious about all the adventure toys and discoveries my brother did. It also made me wonder why the grown up people thought that our world could be separated so easily by separating our toys in pink and blue sections. At this day of age Meccano is probably hopelessly old fashioned and far to manual. Children of today are fed by fast images and cool animations on screen, they learn, play, communicate and relax in the same space, the digital space. The special feature of Meccano was that even though it was very basic there was the promise you could create anything. It might even contribute to a logical mind. The typeface I designed refers to the Meccano feel. It is a creative typeface. A bit masculine and bold looking perhaps but after the first impression a subtle and refined female touch is revealed. It has links to architecture and associations with metal constructions like ‘The Eiffel Tower’ and (old railway) bridges. I am convinced that we all think of that as very charming man-made objects.

Toshna is a classic garaldic typeface family offering three real optical type sizes. The Display weight for titles and headlines is kept very tall, thin and graceful. The Book weight for body text is drawn essentially wider, more round with robust, bold details. The punctuations and accents strictly serve the demands of body text. They are substantially bigger and more readable. Despite the fact that the width is running economically, the user notes the fonts ‘big face, that qualifies for eye friendly long texts.

Futura is one of the best known and most widely used of modern typefaces. Designed by Paul Renner between 1924-1927 for the Bauersche Giesserei, it remains today one of the most successful typefaces due to its simplicity of features, perfect legibility, and meticulous finish of each of its letters. Its great variety of styles and weights makes Futura particularly fit for distinguished user interfaces, information displays, smart watches, e-readers, television apps, technical appliances, and internet-related uses. Tondu is a straightforward display typeface inspired by film posters of the early 1900s. Octavian font was designed by Will Carter and David Kindersley for the Monotype Corporation in 1961. Mr. Carter writes: While the ultimate authority is the ancient inscriptional pattern, the physical characteristics of the present rendering are manifest in the economic proportions of the shapes and the modified relations of the strokes. Thus, the letters are narrower than the classical forms and their weight heavier." KREIS is a modular typeface created by Ukrainian designer Kateryna Korolevtseva. KREIS has a modern sharp character inspired by the shape of an old-school CD disk. Causten Round is a geometric sans serif font family with round corners and maintains rationality in designing each form. ITC Ronda, with its constructed forms, was designed by Herb Lubalin in 1970. Behind its figures lie the clear geometric forms of the circle, triangle, and rectangle. The typeface presents a clear, modern look in any application. Distinguishing characteristics are the shapes of the upper right third of the capital B, P and R as well as the half-circle form of the descender of the Q. ITC Ronda is similar to Michael Neugebauer's Litera; both fonts display styles characteristic of the Bauhaus' work. "

Erbaum is a display square sans serif type family. It is straight-forward in overall structure, simple and rational in details. Erbaum was designed to maximise clarity, with an emphasis on construction and pragmatic aesthetics. The concept behind this typeface was uncompromisingly function driven, which was to provide a clear and effective medium for communication and a modern alternative to similar fonts in the aforementioned category. Extended x-height and sharp details aid legibility. Other features include seven weights, Cyrillic, alternative characters and various OpenType features.

Channe is a display serif font. a blend of straight and curved shapes that look contrasting and elegant. Channe has a unique shape on the capital letters "A, B, F, H, P, Q, and several other letters. It also has several ligatures with a unique blend. Channe font is very suitable for use on labels of cosmetics, fashion, jewelry products, and several other products. Also suitable for posters, magazine covers, book covers, business cards, invitations, and several other things that demand a formal and elegant impression.

Calima is a humanist sans serif typeface available in six weights. The idea behind this family was simply to try to bring the spontaneity of an italic to an upright roman typeface. The result is a fresh and dynamic sans with clean shapes, well suited for short texts and display use. The fonts, available in Opentype format, include diacritics for most European languages and a variety of Opentype features: oldstyle and tabular figures, subscript and superscript, fractions, case-sensitive forms, localized forms and more.

This sans serif font carries the flair and mood our Schneidler Latein font family. The calligraphic appearance and the human sound are evident thanks to the preservation of some significant broad edged pen elements. The forms are reduced to the subtle level where they are simplified, but the essence still remains. The expressive and artistic expression of the Schneidler Latein continues to work like a background melody. Together they build a superfamily that works perfectly in combination with each other. Delgado is a narrow elegant serif font with drops. Delgado is a good choice for large journal titles and small amounts of text. This font was made for one of the independent magazine - but it all went wrong and Delgado was freed from the shackles and went to the free swimming. A large number of both Latin and Cyrillic ligatures makes Delgado playful and at the same time it remains faithful. Delgado received a citation for excellence in type design the in international competition "Modern cyrillic 2014".

Aktifo is designed with two Flavour which carries a modern and contemporary style, based on elementary geometric shapes and constructed of monolinear lines, it was invented to be functional, leaving behind anything that can be regarded as superfluous. Aktifo comes in 28 styles: there are two types of families Actifo A and Aktifo B from Light to Black, which both have differences in characters and spaces. Developed with powerful opentype features, equipped with extended language support: Cyrillic, Greek (BETA) and fractions, tabular figures, arrows, ligatures and more.

Franklin Gothic was designed between 1903 and 1912 by Morris Fuller Benton for the American Type Founders Company. The font serves as the American Grotesk prototype. It was named after Benjamin Franklin. Even today, Franklin Gothic remains one of the most widely used sans serif typefaces. The robust character of the font gives text a modern feel. The main idea behind creating Monly typeface was to combine playfulness with a strong letter construction backbone, so all the letters would stand tall and firm, but not to lose the playfulness. Like people, who grow up but try to save their inner child. By doing so and combining all this, the typeface achieves a great readability and appealing look. Monly font suits best for logos, headlines and small text blocks, but can also be used for big text blocks if the style suits the purpose.

This script font was inspired by a few manuscripts and letters written by French representatives or ministers after the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo. It is an attempt to offer a typical handwritten script from this period. This font can be used variously as website titles, in the design of posters, fliers and greeting cards, as well as for menus, certificates and letters as a very decorative, elegant and unusual font. This font supports large sizes as well as small ones, remaining clear and easy to read.

Mr Palker Dadson — has appeared in a natural evolution of the Palker-Palkerson family. Its closest relative - burly slab serif Mr Palker Dad. This generation is more stout than the previous one. One may even be brave enough to use them for composing small texts. Notably Mr Parker Dad has become one of the frequently sold typefaces on the «Peterburg. The city speaks» map as it is highly readable while remaining extremely tight. Mr Parker Dadson has all the features of P&P’s family.

Down in his secret underground font laboratory, mild mannered John Roshell was tinkering with his iPad when the Apple Pencil suddenly bit him and he found himself feverishly creating letterforms on the tablet...
