Okoye occupies a liminal space between the bonkers curviness of 19th-century grotesques and the sandblasted neutrality of 20th-century models. Both extremes are nice, but there’s something to be said for some neutrality with character left in place, yes? Okoye comes in 9 weights, Thin to Black. If you’re using it for interfaces, each weight lines up from 100-900 in the CSS specification you already know, with Regular sitting at 400 and Bold at 700. You’ll see what you expect to see without extra font-weight specification. There’s extensive Latin language support, a set of small caps which mirrors full-size caps (good for control labels), and arrows. Okoye will be your quirkhorse: hardworking, with personality.

When people usually think of wood type, images of bold and ornate designs reminiscent of the Old West or the Victorian Era come to mind. In truth, wood type was manufactured well into the late 20th century, and only fell out of favor when the letterpress was replaced by the offset press and computerized typesetting. Although there are hard-core collectors who have started a small resurgence in the preservation and use of wood type, it's the digital interpretations of these classic faces that see the most use in today's electronic layout work. Deco Wood Type JNL reinterprets one of these later designs, a bold sans with a decidedly Art Deco influence.

You can't go wrong with this classic Swedish calligraphy font, created by veteran designer Bo Berndal. He named Gertrud after his better half, but was also inspired by old handwritten documents: "Gertrud is a calligraphic letter design from the 16th century. I used it when I engrossed diplomas with a flat-nibbed pen in the 1980's. When I got my Mac I generated the typeface in Fontographer." Gertrud (the typeface) comes in three weights, with roman and italic. It is an OpenType creation, for both PC and Mac. Swedish type foundry T4 premieres new fonts every month. Fortuita is a versatile sans fit for text or display. The name carries some of its history as it was born from logo sketches that fortuitously grew into a type family over eight years. It comes with a tall x-height, rendering it readable at smaller sizes. It counts with old-style numbers that can switch to its lining, small caps, or tabular versions through open-type features. Named after Cologne, the city it was born, Colonia Deco is a modern Art Deco inspired display font. Ornamental and sweeping, the figures line up on the paper, their contrasting strokes and playfully irregular forms giving them an exuberant, decorative character.
