Tinkerer, TapedUp, and Rumpled are based on the template I used for several letterbat fonts—fonts made of wrenches and bolts, hammers, or paper clips. TapedUp can be thought of as a font made from masking tape, and Rumpled is the same design but the tape pieces are wavy. Sleepy time… Ah, if only your kids would go to bed, close their eyes and drift off to sleep. This font was created when my son had some problems falling asleep: he'd cry, he wanted to sleep in a different bed, he wanted a different animal friend (he has Tij - a tiger, Meh - a sheep, Rafi - a giraffe, Moo - a cow, Woofy - a dog, Kikker - a frog). Sleepy Time font is an all caps typeface with uneven letters and a very different upper and lower case. It comes with all languages, including Cyrillic!

ITC Binary was designed by Mauricio Reyes in 1997 as a semiserif font with a pronounced stroke contrast. A distinguishing characteristic of this font is that many of the lower case letters seem to be missing a small piece of their forms, either at the base line or x-height. Setting the letters together makes an impression of waviness which draws the attention of the reader. Binary is a reserved, elegant font which should be used in point sizes of 10 or larger and only in headlines and short to middle length texts.

The Teapot Dome scandal was a 1920s bribery scandal involving Secretary of the Interior Albert Bacon Fall. Fall leased Navy petroleum reserves at Teapot Dome in Wyoming [along with some California reserves] at low rates with no competitive bidding. The San Francisco Examiner for Feb. 20, 1924 ran the two line headline “U.S. Senator Named as Oil Stock Speculator; Whitney to Face Quiz Today on Slush Fund”. The headline was set in a condensed, slightly squared sans serif typeface. This is now available as Special Edition JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Hem and Haw SRF is another Ray Larabie original for Stella Roberts Fonts. Rebuilt from Ray's former freeware design "Stitchen", the lettering looks as if it were stitched into fabric. Cruz Cantera is a crisp and stylish yet informal sans serif typeface created by NYC type designer Ray Cruz. It is a slightly condensed design. The vertical strokes have rounded terminals, and there are some characters with serifs. Notable characters include the upper and lowercase E. There are three weights and each works equally well alone, or together for both display and text. Original design by Ramon Cruz completed in 2002.

A 1990s-vintage Radiohead poster by Jermaine Rogers provided the go-by for this tight, trippy techno face. Jermaine's design, it turns out, was an adaptation of a Ray Larabie font, Dignity of Labour. This version cleverly combines stark geometry with Art Nouveau sensibilities to produce a kind of Digital DNA feel. This font contains the complete Latin language character set (Unicode 1252) plus support for Central European (Unicode 1250) languages as well.

Lombardia Illuminata is a collection of Lombardic-style letters surrounded by natural forms of vines, leaves, trellises, scrolls, sun rays, and flowers. This beautifully ornate font includes one set of A-Z ornamental initials conveniently assigned to both the upper and lower case alphabet characters which are perfect for starting off the beginning of paragraphs in artistic publications, storybooks, fairy tales, and texts conveying the feel of medieval manuscripts of the 12th-16th centuries.

After creating the all-caps version of Supper Club JNL, a conversation between Jeff Levine and fellow font designer Ray Larabie brought forth the idea that one of Ray's freeware fonts had a lower case that would perfectly fit Jeff's design. With Ray's permission, Jeff adapted the lower case to his capital letters and the final version of Supper Club was born. Two separate ideas become one stylish Art Deco type design.

Glass Light was designed in 1912 by Franz Paul Glass for the Genzsch & Heyse foundry. The font is stylewise related to the "Lo types" of the same period. Glass designed a lot of decorative elements to go along with the font. I added Swashes, endletters and smallcaps to the set to make it complete. Since this type of font will probably not be used by many professionals, I did not put all the letters into one big OTF-version since most people don't have OTF-savy software. The type design for Impecunious JNL comes from the 1939 sheet music for "You Don't Know How Much You Can Suffer (Until You Fall in Love)". The name comes from another piece of sheet music, 1899's "Impecunious Davis" [a piece of late 19th century tripe demeaning Black Americans]. However, the word "impecunious" was intriguing. According to the website Merriam-Webster.com, the simple definition of impecunious means "having little or no money". Since we've all been in that spot at one time or another, it became a perfect font name. Impecunious JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Linotype Laika is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. This fun font was created by Dutch designer Mark van Wageningen, who based its forms on those of a sans serif font but gave them wavy, irregular contours. They look almost as though they lie just under the surface of a pool and the movement of the water gives them their undulating appearance. The dynamic Linotype Laika is especially good for headlines in larger point sizes or shorter texts in point sizes of 14 or larger.
