Joe Cool is a bold geometric sans with minimal counters designed to achieve the maximum weight, solidity and impact on the page. Joe Cool Extended was actually created first, then it seemed like a good idea to add progressively more compact versions for added variety and versatility. Wanax is an original calligraphic font by Dave Nalle. It is a unique, freehand style, where each character is drawn in a single stroke without ever lifting the pen from the page. This gives it an unusual convoluted look rather reminiscent of an arcane or secret language. It also features a number of variant character forms.

A bold sans serif with occasional rule-breaking vertical serifs on some characters was found within page examples from the book "100 Alphabets Publicitaires" ("100 Advertising Alphabets"). Although a few of those vertical serifs extended above the cap height in the hand lettering, they were made more uniform to keep a consistency in the digital version known as Peppermill JNL. Coppint is a font formed with serenity and imagery in patterns that refer to warmth and harmony. Even so, this font also gives each letter an elegant and semi-modern impression. When this font was created, Ridwan Fadilah, the designer, said that this font must race in a contextual and basic fundamental hierarchy. Thus, this font also provides stylistic weight, from smallest to largest. So that it can become a unit that can be used in optical text.

The front page of a late-1940s sales catalog for the [now defunct] Duro Decal Company of Chicago had its company name hand-lettered in a tall, condensed chamfered sans serif type design. Although chamfered lettering had been popular for decades, the way the "R" was shaped gave the letters a bit of an Art Deco influence, and this influence was carried through in the creation of Durable JNL.

Brexit now has its own typeface. Brexit the type family is made for being slanted one way or another, to offer stylistic choices and expressions, like for or against, or remain or leave. Because Brexit is international, the letters are made to support many languages. The name is given to mark the British withdrawal from the European union. Brexit is an elongated display typeface in three styles. It is a sans serif with contrasts in stroke and shape. Brexit supports languages with latin characters and ligatures as well as Greek and Cyrillic. The italic and contra italic are extremes that can be used to contrast each other or versus a standing regular. Sometimes complex concepts are best communicated in single words, and the typeface Brexit is made for that and more. The typeface works well for clear messages, shop displays, poster work, menus, signage and other purposes where you want to have impact.

Endgame font was made using a very, VERY bad brush and Chinese ink. I had bought a bunch of brushes some time ago and I discovered that the hairs had been treated with some goo to keep them from sticking out. The goo didn’t really come off, so when I started to draw the glyphs for this font, the brush strokes were kind of wild. In the end, I really liked it (even though I will never again buy that particular brand of brushes). Endgame is a wild brush font. Comes with the works: diacritics, ligatures and alternates.

The front page headline of the April 6, 1917 edition of the Bemidji Pioneer [from Bemidji, Minnesota] says in extrabold letters: “State of War is Declared”. The subtext underneath reads: “President Signs Resolution 1:13 P.M., Passed by House 3 O’Clock this Morning”. Thus, the United States formally entered into World War I. However… that subtext was set in a sans serif type face which was a perfect addition to the numerous newspaper-inspired type revivals offered by Jeff Levine Fonts. Morning Edition JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The original characters, and now-rarely-seen alternate characters, for Memphis, designed by Emil Rudolf Weiss for American Type Founders in 1930, provided the pattern for this wispy, ultralight typeface. Although intended primarily for headlines, this typeface can also be used for brief blocks of text, if set 18 pt. or larger. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Stickley Optical Family is an expansion of P22 Stickley Text, a humanist, Oldstyle-rooted design with a contemporary execution and full OpenType abilities. The font contains ten distinct cuts across four optical masters—in addition to Text for page content, the optical family includes Display for titling; Headline for emphasis; and Caption for footnotes and small sizes. Typefaces were originally designed for the physical size at which they were to be printed, with subtle variations in proportion, detail, contrast, and visual weight to ensure they were as clear at 6 pt. as they were elegant at 68 pt. Murs Gothic is a bold sans serif with sharp dynamic forms. It is a collective image of American Gothics from the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is quite massive, has tight letter spacing and increased contrast. Somewhere elongated, as well as asymmetric details give it a characteristic emotionality and playfulness. Especially against the backdrop of neutral geometric sans-serifs. The set comes with 694 glyphs. Among which are Latin and Cyrillic characters, a couple of ligatures, alternatives, geometric symbols, arrows and much more! Fontology-E is an experimental font designed by Fabrizio Schiavi. It was created for the cover of the Fontology catalogue. Schiavi's need was to build an optical false modulation effect with versions of the logotype and typical rectangles of an empty font chart. The basic idea was to create a page that contained many rectangles in order to demonstrate the modulation. At the same time, it was important to understand that Schiavi inserted 8 versions of the same logotype each time the corresponding letter is digitized in e, a, d, f, g, h, c and b. The inside of the catalogue has the same layout and text, which is revealed by fanning the pages. Schiavi confess that Fontology-E is a highly experimental typefont.

How does one arrive at a font name? With the thousands of digital typefaces available, it's not an easy process. Bandleader JNL was modeled from the hand-lettered title on a piece of sheet music called "Largo", which means "slow tempo". Since the names "Largo" and "Tempo" were already taken, what other musical theme would fit? The lettering is in an Art Deco style, and Big Band was all the rage of the Art Deco period; therefore "Bandleader". Sometimes the road to naming a font takes on many twists and turns but the end result is always gratifying.

The other day I had to login to a page several times, and as security I had to check the "I am not a robot" box. Actually, I think I did a login at that particular page like 30 times that day...and in the end I was thinking "Come on, you should know by now that I am not a robot" And even though I thought it was a repetitious hassle I figured that I needed to name a font "I am not a robot" - and not a robotic-like one, but a sweet and funny cartoonish one! :)

Apres is a clear and comfortable typeface from David Berlow, originally designed for the Palm Pre smart phone. This humanist geometric design projects a friendly and forthright familiarity, without being static or mechanical. The 1920 song “Noah’s Wife Lived a Wonderful Life (‘Cause Noah Had to Stay Home)” is another example of one of those overly-worded song titles from early 20th Century composers. What’s more important for type enthusiasts is that the title was hand lettered with a round nib pen in a slightly ragged Art Nouveau style. Cleaning up the ragged design, the end result became Nouveau Showcard JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Sherwood is a reproduction of an unusually small wood type font from England, dating from the last years of the 18th century. Somewhat reminiscent of Caslon Old Face. The original wood type is used at Sherwood Letterpress and can be seen on the Sherwood home page.

The year 1914 marked the appearance of Washington Ludlow's first typograph machine. This remarkable invention permitted typesetters to quickly cast a full line of lead type in one operation using supplied brass matrices, a procedure which was for the time a major technological improvement over the usual hand-set foundry type methods. Casting type the Ludlow way necessitated the creation of an entire range of new Ludlow typefaces, a development which made Ludlow not only a major manufacturer of printing machinery, but also one of the world's leading sources of professional type design. Renowned typographers such as Douglas C. McMurtrie and Ernest F. Detterer created original faces at Ludlow's request. Robert Hunter Middleton was Ludlow's design director for over fifty years, and during his distinguished career produced an entire library of typefaces representing virtually every known typographic style. He is recognized as one of the most prolific type designers of all time. Today, new Ludlow computer fonts are in preparation, including optically-correct versions of many classic Ludlow typefaces, drawn directly from the originals in the Ludlow company library.

Dean Martin starred in four movies as Matt Helm, the titular character in a series of spy novels by Donald Hamilton. Martin’s version of the government counter-agent followed his TV persona – a fun-loving ladies man who (in this case) just happened to be a spy. The movie poster for 1966’s “The Silencers” has its title hand lettered in an extra bold sans serif stencil style. This is now available as Spy Stencil JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Don't we all have a silly habit? I've got mine, for sure! - like checking whether I remembered to bring my keys, immediately after locking the door...and then checking again like 2 minutes later! In 1995, David Berlow cut Moderno FB for Esquire Gentleman and Reforma from a TrueType pole of Giza. In 1996 he cut new styles with Richard Lipton for El Norte. In 1997, Roger Black ordered new weights for Tages Anzeiger. A redesign of the Baltimore Sun, with Ionic FB as text, required further growth.
