After the Second World War, the Ionic style replaced Modern Face as the favored typeface for newsprint. A couple decades later, it was in turn replaced by the next generation of newspaper fonts, a mix of Old Face, Transitional and Modern Face forms. Rotation was designed by Arthur Ritzel and presented by Stempel/Linotype in 1971 and named for the rotation newsprint machine for which is was particularly suited. The font displays the influence of Old Face design and gives newsprint a feeling of lightness and elegance.

Gildersleeve evokes the spirit of the Arts and Crafts movement of the 1920s. Think of a hand-cut Roman display face, with loving care lavished over each serif and letterform. Grossesbuch is a modern sans serif typeface. The starting point of which was the sketchbook pages. Using a wide-nib nib, I turned the nib so that the stroke was always wide. The sketchbook pages looked like posters. Later, having become interested in fonts, I decided to transfer the drawn letters and make a typeface. I think that the range of use is various accidents: posters, headlines, postcards, captions.

Colin is a fresh, somewhat futuristic geometric sans serif type with a large x-height that, to me, communicates both seriousness and cheerfulness. It supports 70 languages incl. monotonic Greek and comes in 7 weights with a small number of alternate glyphs (ss01) for more flexibility. It features fractions, old style and tabular figures. Colin works great in titles, displays and short paragraphs. And where does it come from? To be honest, the reason for this font is a selfish one. I wanted a typeface where my initials (n and c) look identical, just rotated by 90 degrees. That didn’t completely work but, hey, it’s pretty close.

As a graphic designer, sometimes it’s impossible not to be inspired by the Swiss Style, specifically the work of Armin Hofmann, who is one of its best exponents. Grids and grotesk and neo-grotesk typefaces are a fundamental part of the tools that make this aesthetic possible. A visual language that has caused full admiration since we were students. Therefore, we decided to design Armin as an homage to Hofmann’s work. Technically, we added stylistic sets applied to the letters –G, R, a, g, h, l, m, n, r, t, u, y– to make Armin more eclectic and suitable for the creation of any visual language.

Enfluence is a modern typeface perfect for titles and short texts. It could worked in print and digital mediums. It depicts a fresh and modern image but with some winks to older typefaces. About the shape of the letter, it was built with a wide “x” height, short ascendants and descendants, a high contrast, angular serif, and some round terminals.
