Mechanikschrift, roughly German for “mechanical writing”, is a typeface from Noah Rothschild and Victory Type. The aesthetic of this font is just what its name points towards: machine-like structure with a German flare. Minimalism is often associated with German design, and Mechanikschrift is a minimalist typeface. Furthermore, the designs of the characters, outside of the general theme of squared-off corners and angular appearance, are related to Herbert Bayer’s work at the Bauhaus.

Inspired by an old house font of an anthroposophical hospital in Germany, this font was created: coarse, irregular, with corners and edges. UUeirdie is weird. The Condensed-Light style was derived from the star-serifed font Asterx by replacing the star serifs with a rounded flare serif. Widening that style resulted in UUeirdie-Regular and the bold was then constructed to complement it. The warped version was a result of play with a font distortion program. Although the glyphs have sharp corners, they do not have straight lines. The UUeirdie faces are rough, irregular, and maybe a bit creepy.

Louis is a faithful digital rendition and expansion of a design called Fanfare, originally drawn by Louis Oppenheim in 1927. Redrawn digitally by Rod MacDonald, and engineered in-house by Canada Type, Louis includes the many alternates that came with the original design, and then some. It was also expanded into three variations, including a soft-cornered style, and a rough woodcut one. And of course, the codepage support covers the majority of Latin-based languages.

Billsville is a fun font that mixes the casual sassy flair of an old Flintstone cartoon with the upright legible nature of a classic serif font to create something entirely new. Although based primarily on straight lines and simple letterforms, Billsville has got softly rounded corners that make everything seem softer. A friendly, versatile display font named after Williamstown, MA, home of a website called Tripod who originally commissioned this font for their members in 1997.

Ckornoments is a two-font family of corner ornaments that was inspired by decorative grave ornaments. Similar ornaments can be found on old furniture and woodwork. Almost all ornaments come in sets of four for placement top right and left and bottom right and left. The two fonts, solid and outline, are designed to be used in layers but can be used separately. In addition, ornaments that include flowers have one part of the design separated out so the original and separated characters can be layered to give bi-colored images (or tri-colored with an outline). These ornaments are suitable for posters, newsletters, personal notes, and on other types of documents that benefit from framing. In addition to serving as corners, the ornaments can also be used as dividers between sections of text.

Basketto is a carefully crafted, handmade sans serif font. Completely built from scratch in Adobe Illustrator. The glyphs are nice and bold, with sharp corners. A page from an "ideas booklet" that was copyrighted in 1939 by the Sanford Ink Company displayed a hand lettered variation on the counter-less [or solid] alphabet that so typified the Art Deco style of the times. Bold, brash and beautiful, Upscale JNL evokes high-end department stores, fine millinery shops, cafeterias, night clubs and other business establishments from the Streamline era. This type of lettering style was a workhorse, and could (and still can) tackle any message with strength, clean lines and class.

Sierra is an antiqua with a high x-height and generous, open counters. Many curves of the letters are almost right angles, which was particularly suited to the Digiset machines from Dr. Ing. Rudolf Hell, Kiel. The forms of Sierra with their flowing stroke contrast and half serifs have a calligraphic touch, which is especially highlighted in the italic weights. This is a graceful text type and its bold weights look almost like woodcuts. Sierra is an excellent choice for both texts and headlines.

Guaruja Grotesk is the first Tipogra Fio family for headlines & body copy. The grotesque form factor is much inspired in the Modernism movement from the mid of 20th Century but the Italic weight is a great cursive contrast aside the Roman ones so you can make very brutalist layouts or craft humanist projects, without losing the communication between all the family. Nazanin, originally named Haghighi, is a modern Arabic text face first produced by Linotype in 1978. Its popular design was converted into OpenType format in 2005, taking full advantage of digital technology to allow accurate positioning of diacriticals and kerning refinements. The counters and inter-character proportions of Nazanin are characteristic of Persian display lettering and typography. This is particularly true of Nazanin bold, which gives a strong image when used for display purposes. Nazanin possesses fuller, deeper characters than is normally exhibited in Arabic typography: its angled counters contributing to fluid, well-balanced, yet vibrant, letterforms. This typeface is named after Sarah Eaves, the woman who became John Baskerville’s wife. As Baskerville was setting up his printing and type business, Mrs. Eaves moved in with him as a live-in housekeeper, eventually becoming his wife after the death of her first husband, Mr. Eaves. Like the widows of Caslon, Bodoni, and the daughters of Fournier, Sarah similarly completed the printing of the unfinished volumes that John Baskerville left upon his death.
