Bodoni Classic Swirls breaks all the rules. The idea of Bodoni typefaces is no embellishments and here I go again and do another decorated set of Bodonis. Two word examples (“nice” and “bud”) from the J.G. Cooley & Co.’s Specimens of Wood Type catalog for the typeface ‘Roman Triple Extra Condensed Fifty Line’ offered only seven letters to work with. Bouteilles is French for bottles. No fancy name this time, just bottles. You’re probably wondering why I chose this name… Well, I was taking out the glass (in Holland we recycle just about everything, glass, paper, plastic, metal, garden and kitchen waste, etc.), which included a number of French wine bottles. As I was throwing them into the underground container one block from where I live, I realised that the word Bouteilles actually sounds great and it would be a nice name for a font! Yes, it is that simple! Bouteilles is a nice brush font I made with my trusted Chinese ink and a really worn brush I found. It comes with all the diacritics you need plus two sets of alternates, which you can play with!

Devin is designed mainly for the benefit of the advertising industry, and it surely is a nice typeface for headings, isn't it? And you should see what a nice body type it makes! I had no other typeface in mind when working with it, but I can now find several typefaces it is related to. It reminds of the egyptienne group, but I did't really plan that. The name Devin is taken from my birth region. There is a castle with that name on the northern Adriatic coast (known even from Rilke's Duino elegies - Duino is another name of the same castle). A castle ruin called Devin, too, can be found on a height above the Danube in Slovakia, not far away from its capital Bratislava. Devin was released in 1994.

Hangman's Delight is a scratchy, all caps font. The upper case letters come with swirls and curls, but the lower case letters are unadorned. A bit of an unusual font, I admit, but it would look nice on book covers and posters. Comes with some ligatures and stylistic alternates and a whole bunch of diacritics.

This typeface is mostly composed of images of dinosaur skeletons drawn by Matthew Schenk and used as stencils for decoration. I thought they would also make a nice typeface. Check the key map—some of the very large critters are cut into pieces and put on several keys—this may help printing in some situations.

In the 1943 Three Stooges comedy short “Higher than a Kite”, Curly reaches into a box with the label “hand grenades” painted on its side and pulls out one of the devices. The bold, squared stencil hand lettering on that prop inspired Stencil Label JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Kevin Curtis runs a site called Damosel's Printer's Blocks, specializing in rare an unusual examples from the years when letterpress was the main source of printed material. He graciously provided the source material for Print Damosel JNL. The collected images represent a varied cross-section of ornamentation, embellishments, attention getters, decorations and whimsical illustrations.

Maple Street is a great looking traditional serif font composed by the Okaycat design team, Luke Turvey & Natsuko Hayashida, in 2014. Bold didone forms with structural seriffed detail combine at Maple Street to offer a cozy familiar style, without looking dated. Scribbler, like Double Quick (another one of my fonts), is a handwritten typeface, designed to look like a quick grocery list, a hasty 'I Love You' note penned down on a Post-it or a home improvement to-do list. Scribbler is a little messier than Double Quick, but this may be just your style!
