Created by Chank in 1992, Ribjoint was Chank’s first attempt at creating a Egyptian, cursive font on the computer. Writing cursive with a pencil sure is easy, but getting all the letters to link up correctly in computerized font format is a bit tricky. Not the most graceful script in the world, but it works good enough for a BBQ pit.

This was a lot of fun to recreate and flesh out, and it has that purposefully awkward appeal that a lot of Pink Broccoli fonts are imbued with. With a pseudo unicase styling, wonky blockish style lettering, and that visceral tieback to the 80's, Goondocks brings back fond memories, perfect for those unorthodox creative designs.

Bold Fashion is a heavy slab-serif font of the disco era. A 1970s Photolettering catalog indentified the pattern for this typeface as "Exotique" ...from France, no less. Named for a French expression meaning “pun,” this face is, indeed, witty and playful, with nary a groan in sight. Both versions of this font include the complete Unicode 1252 Latin and Unicode 1250 Central European character sets.

Being a lefty makes it challenging to write in cursive. Unlike righthanders who pull the pencil across the page, lefties must push the pencil as they write. As a result, the letterforms created by pushing instead of pulling the implement are different from each other. The lefty’s cursive script is seen here in Yellabelly, the fontified version of Chank Diesel’s left-handed handwriting. This one’s named after a cowardly cowboy.

Suomi Script is a typeface with a twist (pun intended): it has more than 1600 ligatures with two or more glyphs connected to make it look like an odd hand-written script polished by ITC. With Open Type savvy programs this font automatically replaces single characters with the ligatures. Some hand kerning is needed here and there.

The name Powerplay is based on the Battersea Power Station, London. Nonchalant was inspired by an old Peter Sellers poster from the around 1970 (the year that I was born!) I wanted to keep the funky look of the 70's but update with a more modern 21st century look. That's how Nonchalant ended up looking like a hybrid between funk, grafitti and sans serif!
