Chockablock is an homage to Charles Schulz's lettering in the comic strip Peanuts. It's not an exact match for Schulz's work, but the inspiration is obvious, as is the designer's love and respect for Sparky's body of work.

RMU Bison is my revival of Julius Kirns hot-metal font, which first was released by Weber in 1935. The versatile timeless brush font was extended as to cover the main Western and Central European languages plus Turkish.

Can one have enough butterflies? I think not, which is why I created these little creatures. Another release of Butterflies, containing more butterflies and perhaps a few other critters thrown in, will be available later in the year.

Bovary is an elegant, stylized and expressive script font inspired by those beautiful calligraphies of yesteryear, but in a modern point of view. Bovary is full of personality! When I designed it, I started from the Clauques Script. Therefore, Bovary can be perfectly combined with Clauques Sans. Bovary includes almost 900 glyphs with many stylistic variations, swashes, ending and initial forms, catchwords and ligatures for both uppercase and lowercase, assuring almost infinite combination possibilities. In addition, the font includes a set of very useful ornaments to combine and give an ornamental aspect to the calligraphic text. All our fonts are carefully controlled and tested in both aspects: readability and technical aspects. We deal with the kerning pairs, optimization of hinting information to avoid pixel grid, and the precise programming of the OpenType features; as well as drawing smooth curves points and the final touch of each glyph. Remember that to access to all additional characters, you must use software that is truly compatible with OpenType, such as Adobe CS applications, or we recommend using the Glyphs palette.

Change Serif is a typeface family designed as a part of Mateusz Machalski's PhD project, carried out in 2015-2021. The main goal was to create a typeface allowing for the typesetting of complex humanistic texts, containing many historical letterforms. The starting point was the preparation of most of the glyphs provided in unicode for Latin, Cyrillic and Greek. From the formal point of view, the Change family is based on Renaissance proportions with contemporary details. Classic upright version is paired with expressive and calligraphic italics, inspired by the works of Robert Granjon. Each of the styles contains about 4,000 characters, allowing for a broad range of typesetting capabilities – multiscript publications, historical translations, and texts transcription. The crucial aspect was to treat all scripts equally. All OpenType features, such as swashes, final forms, decorative ligatures, can be found in Latin, Cyrillic and also Greek. The name of the typeface refers to the design process in which there are constant changes and corrections. On the other hand, it means to convey how this project influenced my perception of typography and allowed me to embrace it as a medium of artistic expression. Due to its similar proportions, Change works perfectly with the Gaultier typeface.

Who haven't heard the phrase that ‘any past time was better’?. Although I sometimes find this phrase a little too pessimistic (because I try to think that the best is yet to come), it may be true regarding my passion, typography. I'm too young (29) unfortunately, and this means I did not have the pleasure of being contemporary with maybe the man who has influenced my work the most (1). The man that showed that letters are more than just letters to be read. Herb Lubalin (1918-1981), also called sometimes as ‘the rule basher’ (2), smashed the taboos and sacred rules of type design and gave it personality. He rejected the functionalist philosophy of europeans in favor of an eclectic and exuberant style. To him, letters were not merely vessels of form, they were objects of meaning. (3). Nowadays, when looking at his portfolio, who dares to deny that the term ‘typography’ and ‘beauty’ may go hand-in-hand without any problem? Ed Benguiat, one of Herb’s partners, still likes making jokes with the phrase “screw legibility, type should be beautiful” and what I understand of this is not to forget the rules, but to know and break them carefully. In an era of pure eclecticism, we, the lovers of flourishes and swashes, can't do nothing but admire all the legacy that Lubalin, this wonderful type-guru, left. My font Lubaline read as “the line of Lubalin” is my humble tribute to him. Those who know his work, may see the influences easily like in his ‘Beards’ (1976) and ‘The Sound of Music’ (1965) posters; the art-deco forms in many of his amazing logos and practically in all his creations where letters seem to be alive just like you and me. I really hope that the future finds me still learning more and more about type-design and letterforms, and like him, always willing to make innovations in my field: Because letters are not just letters to be read. To Rafaella, a menina dos cachos. We, designers, have grown accustomed to seeing that lowercase letters—not only in calligraphy but also in typography (1)—may be very playful and decorative. Almost every part of them can become a potential swash, ligature or decorative accolade (2) if the designer has some expertise regarding this matter. However, since we are living in an era that elevates the status of handcrafts, lettering has gained a lot of ground in different kinds of mediums, and with it there’s a sort of overuse of capitals. This may be due to the reason that lettering pieces need a high impact to convey their messages and many times why big capitals are the only solution. With this in mind, I started Rafaella: A font consisting entirely of capitals which go from unadorned to very decorative. Rafaella has ductus and forms vaguely based on the 1970s Bookman-like styled fonts. The presence and behaviour of serifs and ball terminals in this style were the perfect excuse to make really attractive aternates which the user can choose from the glyphs panel. The result is a font full of life. Able to be both very playful and formal due to its roman style which can be combined with (and between) a wide range of other styles of expressive scripts or geometric fonts with nice results (3). Capital is a multifunctional super family with modernist roots. It is comprised of two distinct subfamilies: Gothic and Serif. Texicali is a multiple weight type design based on our FontMesa logo. The idea was simple: create a sans serif with a few slab serifs added resulting in a style that could feel at home just about anywhere. The regular/standard set works well for general use while the Alt set is perfect for when you want to add a little country charm. The Alt set has a few additional alternate letters built in which are easily accessed using Adobe Creative Suite products such as Illustrator and In Design. The X version, with its higher x-height lowercase, is ideal for signage where you want the look of a lowercase, however your sign still needs to be readable from the street. Despite the Display, Headline and Text fonts we also wanted to make a single weight Poster version with, inspired by the mechanical script introduced in the Double-Pica Script, to be used in magazines or as a complementary display typeface.

Porkshop is a font of retro vintage flavor with a hefty dose of immigrant-influenced naive typography. It's fundamentally inspired by an old-but-still-prominent "Pork Shop" sign in Manhattan. I like to think that this font was made by a signmaker's apprentice who didn't yet have a grasp on the subtleties of elegant letterforms, but put his gusto into perfectly sharp serifs. While pointy little serifs are cool, the real shine of this font comes from the imaginative combination of uppercase and lowercase shapes. This unique mixture in the lowercase reminds me of an indeterminate European accent in the big city. Big and strong and easy to understand. Best rendered in 3-foot tall metal type, Porkshop works well in print and on screens, too. The Bolds and Italics are brand new in 2011.
