Lotter blackletter with Drop caps One fine day I found a vintage book, it called “A treatise by the Dominican friar-writer Marcus von Weida on the Brotherhood of the Holy Rosary”. It was printed in 1515 by Melchior Lotter in Leipzig. The text was illustrated by hand-colored engravings on religious and liturgical themes and beautiful initials I like. Lotter was the last name of a family of German printers, intimately connected with the Reformation. An innovation by the elder Lotter was his use of Roman types for Latin, reserving the Gothic types for German. I'm happy to present to you my new font family. Here comes ‘Epilepsja Round’ which is soft and friendly while the Regular family remains firm and sharp. It is an all-caps alphabet of stencil-sprayed and painted letters found in the city space. The glyphs are simple but unordinary. Every letter has something from Escher-like 3D illusion, but is flat simultaneously. Epilepsja Round consists of three styles: Outline, Solid and Fill. One of the most unusual sets of antique stencils spotted for sale online comprises a set of twenty-four classic logos of early 20th Century automobile companies. For whatever purpose that is now lost to time, these stencils represented the logos of many of America's finest auto manufacturers; most now just historical memories. The ornaments in, and presentation of, Zierde owe much credit to J.G Schelter & Giesecke’s 1913 type specimen book ‘Die Zierde’. The strong functional uppercase sans-serifs alongside luscious, beautiful patterns in ‘Die Zierde’ make for beautiful combinations. This early-modernist use of grotesk alongside ornament looks bizarre in the eyes of us used to seeing sans-serifs in more formal, sterile settings. The face itself retains some historical flourishes such as the eccentric leaning angle of the italics, the long cross-bar on the ‘G’, the gammy-leg of the ‘R’, a strange ampersand and some irregular terminals across the weights. This family was inspired by the beautiful roman font used by Aldus Manutius in Venice (1499) to print for the first time Hypnerotomachia Poliphili..., the well known book attributed to Francesco Colonna. Francesco Griffo was the punchcutter. The present font contains all of the specific latin abbreviations and other ligatures used in the original. The Italic style, carved by Francesco Colonna, the so called "Aldine" style, was inspired from various documents, all printed with this first Italic font. We offer the complete set of ligatures (about 60) we have been able to find, contained in the original font. In the two styles, we have made differences between I and J, V and U, to make easier a modern use. Added are the accented characters and a few others not in use in this early period of printing. The Italic style may be used as a complement to our 1470 Jenson Latin. The font contains all characters for West European (including Celtic), Baltic, East and Central European and Turkish language.
