North Bergen is a dirty sans serif based on letterforms seen painted on a wall of a magazine store in North Bergen, New Jersey. Its unrefined, quirky forms reflect a typographic naivete and are meant to evoke a sense of hand painted signage.

Ghost Sign JNL is a spurred serif type design based on the faded lettering of an antique brick wall sign for Homer Hardware [located in Homer, NY] and is available in both regular and oblique versions. From Wikipedia: “A ghost sign is an old hand-painted advertising sign that has been preserved on a building for an extended period of time. The sign may be kept for its nostalgic appeal, or simply indifference by the owner. Probably one of the most unusual applications of a stencil took place in 1964 when Union Carbide [then-owner of the still-new line of "Glad" brand plastic wrap and storage bags] sponsored a $100,000 contest to match up a stencil of their logo in order to win a prize. The magazine ad told of how one thousand lucky participants would win $100 by simply taking a die-cut stencil of the brand name to the store and overlaying it on the logo printed on the food wrap box to see if it aligned perfectly. The hand-lettered title proclaiming "match the stencil and win" was done in a casual sans design and reflected the cheerfulness of many typestyles found in ads during the late 50s and early 60s.

In 1543 the well-known “De humani corporis fabrica” treatise on anatomy by André Vesale, was printed by Johann Oporinus in Basel (Switzerland). Various typefaces were used for this work, mostly in Latin but including Greek characters. Its Jenson-type font was the one which inspired this font. It is a very elegant one, including the “long s”, a few abbreviation forms and ligatures. As it was a Latin text, there were no accented characters and a few capitals were absent. I had to reconstruct them. A render sheet, in the font file, makes all characters easy to identify on the keyboard. This font may be used as a “modern” one for web-site titles, posters and flier designs, publishing ancient texts... and anything else you want! One of the most elegant types ever cut, it stands up very well to enlargement, remaining as readable as in its original small size.
