Quickat is a handwritten font, thick, condensed calligraphic style has several sets of terminal ornaments for decoration of phrases and titles. This font is drawn by hand with a pen following proportions based on the numbers of Perrin applied completely to the capital letter H and from this letter all the proportions of the rest of the alphabet are calculated according to mathematical formulas that I have been perfecting and putting into practice in my last fonts, is ideal for designing greeting cards or weddings, posters, flashy headlines or small texts.

An interesting hand lettered example of Art Deco lettering (minus the letter ‘L’) was spotted on Pinterest and served as the inspiration for Deco Sketch JNL. Because there was no attribution as to the age or source of the alphabet, it can only be surmised that it was a scan from a 1930s or 1940s source. The original showed many of the irregularities of pen lettering, and had rounded terminals. The digital version has been redrawn more uniformly with flat terminals. Deco Sketch JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Ascender Serif was designed by Steve Matteson as an originative, unique serif design that is metrically compatible with Times New Roman. The Ko family was developed for the text posters at the Holland Festival in 1997, based on the filling of a lettering stencil with different pen thicknesses. Ko Heavy and the Ko KAP were the first weights; the family was completed in 2002 with a Ko Light, a second Ko KAP and two italics.

ITC Flora is the work of Dutch designer Gerard Unger, and is named for his daughter. He started by doing calligraphy experiments with felt-tip and ballpoint pens, and developed these drawings into a formalized script typeface. Swiss typographer Max Caflisch advised the Dr.-Ing Rudolf Hell GmbH technology firm to add a new round-nibbed script face to their Digiset type library, and in 1984, Flora was released by Hell. Unger used a chancery cursive skeleton in this design, which imparts grace and movement. Flora was also intentionally designed to be simple and sturdy, and with its minimal variation in thick/thin stroke ratio, it worked well on the early digital typesetting machines. In 1989, the International Typeface Corporation released the font. ITC Flora continues to work well on current printers and typesetters, and it has an enduring popularity for uses that range from short text passages to display headlines.

The Handasi type family follows the guidelines of the Mutamathil Taqlidi type style. It has one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter and one additional, final-position, glyph for each Arabic letter that is normally connected with other letters from both sides in traditional cursive Arabic strings. Handasi employs variable x-height values. Its design uses straight lines only but with variable distributed weight. The Stroke typeface is based on a broad nib pen theory taken to its extreme, using idealization of computer-generated pen stroke.

I have been to Japan many times, but I have to admit that I have not (yet) been to Odaiba, so this font is a reminder that I should go there one day. Odaiba is a large artificial Island in the bay of Tokyo. It is a popular shopping and sightseeing destination and its sights include a copy of the Statue of Liberty and a mega-sized Gundam Robot. Odaiba Script is a handwritten font. I used a Sharpie pen on paper, so it is nice and thick. It comes with double letter ligatures and all diacritics.

Tsanger Yunhei was designed and published by Tsanger. Tsanger Yunhei contains 8 styles and family package options. The designer has made unique treatment on the shape and structure of the pen, based on the Chinese calligraphy style and writing, which makes it easier to identify under the same size of the font and group reading effect better. Tsanger Yunhei is more in line with the aesthetic habits of Chinese characters getting the reading an easy task. This font adopts GB 2312—1980 standard, with a total of 6763 Chinese characters, matching Latin letters, Greek letters, Hiragana, Katakana, Russian Cyrillic letters, etc.

Everleigh Duo consists of two typefaces - thin serif font and calligraphic script font. Both of this fonts have an elegant thin shape with classic influences. This pair is created in one breath and they matches perfectly in lots of lettering composition. Everleigh Script - it's a connected script typeface that imitates handwritten pen calligraphy. It includes lots of ligatures and multilingual support. Everleigh Medium - it's a little modified version of my another font Everleigh. Danielle Smith describes her friendly, hand-drawn typeface family, available in roman and italic, as ‘non-élitist and accessible’. Originally created for a theatre project at Massey University, Dandy is reminiscent of Pablo Ferro’s hand-lettering.

Sardines is a project by Jacques Le Bailly aka Baron von Fonthausen. This original version is the one that saw the light as a monospaced font student project and which would eventually grow into Vette Letters’ largest font family (see VLNL Neue Sardines). Sardines is an eclectic mash of classic curves and mathematical measurements, leaving a very distinct typographic flavor. While most of our type is market-fresh, this one comes out of the can, but it’s delicious nonetheless. And it’s great for adventurous BBQ-ing!

Blossomy is a pictographic font consisting of 72 plant and flower illustrations, designed by kapitza. The font explores the beauty of shapes and structures in nature. The illustrations are based on photographs which have been traced by hand and are the result of a long term interest in the organic and erratic lines of naturally growing plants. The idea for Blossomy originated several years ago via a series of paintings exploring forms and structures in nature. The outlines for those paintings were traced in Illustrator and then transferred onto canvas. The outcome was so simple and beautiful that the designers decided to keep working on new illustrations and combine them in a font. Authenia is a casually and quickly written brush script. Letters are made with brush pen on a paper. Then scanned and carefully drawn into vector format. Bickley Script was designed by Alan Meeks in 1986 and is based on the handwriting forms popular at the end of the 19th century. The flowery capitals contrast beautifully with the delicate and reserved lower case letters, fit perfectly together and enhance the handwritten character of the font. Bickley Script looks as though it were written with a fine tipped pen and has an elegant, nostalgic charm. The font is best for headlines as well as short to middle length texts and should be set in point sizes of 14 or larger, and Bickley Script's capitals can also be used as initials with other alphabets.

Solantra is a solidly crafted handwritten script. I’ve long felt that beautiful writing is more pleasing to the eye than the more attention grabbing swashes and flourishes. That being said, both have their role in design and Solantra has a large slice of each. Solantra combines vintage style handwriting with all its quirks and English Roundhand of that same era. The result is a solid setting script filled with charm and personality. With default Adobe Illustrator settings for Ligatures and Contextual Alternates active, the vintage charm is in full display. Want to add more flair? There are loads of more embellished letters inside the full version. Solantro takes into account how scripts are actually written so that connections from letter to letter are more fluid and rhythmic than the average script font. In natural script/handwriting most letters end at the bottom right and move up to connect with the next. Some letters like o, v, and w, however; end at the top right. Rather than force these letters to dip down and go back up they should ideally connect from that upper right point. This is accomplished through a series of alternate letters and ligatures with extensive contextual feature programming. So, for example, you might get one version of a ligature in the middle of a word and a different one at the beginning or end of that word. Solantra also takes into account another often overlooked feature of natural handwriting. When you write you inevitably pick your pen up from the paper at times. This is often just to reposition the hand, but in the days of writing with dip pens this was also needed to attain a fresh supply of ink. Having these occasional breaks in connections makes the writing less static and more rhythmic. While the Basic versions are limited to a standard character set and several ligatures and alternates for better settings of text, the full pro versions contains 1292 glyphs and an abundance of features. Even with numbers there are options like Oldstyle numbers, fractions, and ordinals. Central European language support is included as well as some select ligatures that use accents. There are many substitutions happening automatically (make sure you activate “contextual alternates”) to give you the most seamless workflow. Collision fixes, initial and medial glyph substitution, happen automatically, terminal forms are also available but need to be activated separately. Inspired by Edward M. Catich’s seminal thesis on the origins of the Roman inscriptional style, such as that found on Trajan’s column, Richard Lipton’s Canto traces the path from an expressive, preparatory Brush (with Brush Open to preserve gestural details at smaller sizes), through informal Pen, to the formal Roman. Classical capitals are accompanied by Lipton’s own calligraphic lowercase, small caps, and swashes.

Aeronic is a work of love. I stumbled upon a fantastic Japanese poster for Nikke Coat by Gihachiro Okuyama (1907 - 1981). Gihachiro Okuyama (also: Okayama) was a very prolific Japanese print artist who started his career making woodblock prints, but later moved on to posters and advertisements. I tried to recreate the hand lettering in the original 1937 Nikke Coat poster, but since I had to work with a few glyphs only, I designed the remaining ones myself. The outline of Aeronic is rather thin, with thicker bits in some glyphs. It is quite rough in places, but it all adds to its unique look. Aeronic comes with a bonanza of diacritics.
