Chapman is the result of spending too many hours staring at the often all-capital engraver typefaces from long-gone foundries. The wide serifs, high contrast, and various widths seem to have so much character but also remain so neutral. From these references, Chapman began to emerge. It seemed natural that the lowercase would be based on a Scotch Roman model, much like the original all-capital faces. Chapman does not pull directly from any one source but from the genres themselves. It was, from the beginning, the goal to create a typeface that would be relatively neutral but not boring; an adaptable solution that works anywhere and, depending on the chosen width, can be squeezed or stretched to fit anywhere. The idiosyncrasies of the original designs are tamed in some places and turned up in others. The result is something familiar but unique and contemporary.

The Greek font started from an experiment with designing fonts based on a geometric grid. I joined the points on the grid with straight lines to form the various characters and found that this resulted in a font that closely resembled Greek writing (derived from inscriptions carved in stone) of ancient times. I continued to develop this theme but I now accentuated the look and feel of Greek writing. The three styles shown are the results of this development. I did not kern or letterspace the individual letters since this would have been out of character with the orignal Greek writing. This means that the font is mono-spaced. At a later stage I may produce more refined and "modern" versions of these fonts. Surprisingly, the Greek SCF styles are very readable. The font is fully professional in terms of its character set. It contains over 235 characters - (upper and lower case characters, punctuation, numerals, symbols and accented characters are present). In fact, it has all the accented characters used in the major European languages.

Vernon’s inspiration came while researching and investigating a 'legible' typeface design for tangible purpose. The main characteristics of ‘Vernon’ can be seen in the slightly modulated strokes that reference the natural and friendly humanist proportions of the humanist hand, with open interior letterspace characteristics. The subtle detailing and finishing of strokes and junctions – seen in the curved tail of the lowercase ‘l’ and the head serif of the lowercase ‘i’, create a smooth rhythm along the baseline. Utilizing the ‘contextual alternative’ feature of OpenType, Vernon substitutes select characters in words with word-shapes that may cause visual confusion to some readers. Vernon uses subtle character differentiation in the detailing of the inner-shape / counter space from similar letter shapes (for example: ‘p’, ‘d’, ‘g’ and ‘q’) to assist in creating the contextual alternate designs. There is no doubt that the 1941 version of “The Maltese Falcon” was superior to the prior two attempts by Warner Brothers at filming Dashiell Hammett’s 1930 novel. Sam Spade was perfectly portrayed by Humphrey Bogart, and the supporting cast of Mary Astor, Peter Lorre, Sidney Greenstreet and Elisha Cook, Jr. rounded out the main players in a great suspense film that is considered to be the first (if not one of the first) of the film noir genre. The title cards for the production and cast credits were hand-lettered in a spurred serif type style strongly reminiscent of the Art Nouveau period, so instead of naming the digital version with some “tough guy detective” moniker, it was decided that Detective Client JNL was more appropriate. After all, this is a reasonably attractive font, and in this kind of film it’s usually the “attractive damsel in distress” [be she the victim or the actual perpetrator] that gets the story rolling… Detective Client JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Is it necessary to tell the Gutenberg story? 1456 Gutenberg Pro is the second Gutenberg typeface produced by GLC foundry (look at our 1456 Gutenberg). This font was created from the so called "B42" character set used for the two Gutenberg Latin Bibles (42 and 36 lines), but with a better and finer design than in our first version, more faithful to the finest original printed books appearance. We offer also now a larger choice of the original ligatures and Latin abbreviations, as complete as possible to be usable with OTF specifications. The complete basic alphabet (with "long s" naturally)is strictly looking like the real one (including the curious twisted "X"). We have only recreated the capitals W and J, who was not existing in the time. The numerals, no more existing in the original type set, were inspired from those in use a few years later by early following printers, but matching with the Gutenberg font's pattern. The font includes West (including Celtic), East, Central European, Baltic and Turkish glyphs.

Vialog is a large and versatile sans serif family consisting of four weights of roman with corresponding italics, each with small caps and Old style Figures. Designers Werner Schneider and Helmut Ness based the concept for Vialog on the forms in "Euro Type," an unpublished type designed by Schneider in 1988 for the German Federal Transportation Ministry. Now, more than ever, the world needs BenderHead. Why? – Because... it just does. Don't ask why, just take our word for it. BenderHead has its thicks and thins all mixed up. For you typographic aficionados, stroke weights and hairline weights aren't consistent, and many rules of typographic design were broken to make this font. We're sure there's a use for it... we've used it on CD covers and posters - and have seen it on a poster for the Zelda video game at Babbages. It's offered here for the first time through Altered Ego Fonts. I don't think we need to explain its history, its inspiration, or its historical reference to you... (we're not certain there is any.) Just accept it as it is, and use it profusely. Benderhead AEF features a full character set, including the Euro. Delphi grew from a logotype Lily Feinberg produced using Greek-column-inspired letterforms. As that concept expanded to include more and more letters, the typeface had its beginnings. Intertwined, kinetic, and deliberate, Delphi carves itself onto the page and screen, encouraging variation and experimentation. The letterforms’ unique construction and predispostion for experimentation inspired two varying sets: Delphi Dio, comprised of two-line strokes, and Delphi Tria, built of both 2- and 3-line strokes. With a design as elaborate, yet tightly tuned as this, the desire to add more and more was irresistible—you'll see a number of stylistic, swash, and titling alternates (and even more hidden away in further stylistic sets). Because Dio and Tria could only hold so much, alternate cuts were produced to better organize your options: the Delphi Alt fonts feature certain letter styles and stylistic alternate sets distinct from those in Delphi. Delphi’s sophisticated, striking letterforms make it an ideal display face for use at large sizes, and with so many unique details and alternate letterforms, it’s simply fun to use.

The initial inspiration for the typeface came from examining precisely machined labels on tools of various kinds, from cameras to cars, which need to be perfectly legible at all sizes. Such processes create a distinctly streamlined, clean look that feels both robust and stylish - universal and unique. Technical Rounded VP includes ten diverse styles, offering great versatility. All styles in this family include an extensive Latin character set, the Greek alphabet, multiple sets of numerals, a large set of punctuation marks, and other symbols. With 1120 glyphs in each style, it guarantees full support for all Latin languages. Bayside Tavern is a weathered version of our Tavern Alt font family. With its straight sides Bayside Tavern fits better in tight spaces and reads better at smaller point sizes than the regular Bay Tavern version. With three weights, open faced and outline versions to choose from you're sure to find the right style for your new project, restaurant menu, logo, t-shirt design or Pirate costume party. While our original Tavern Alt font has been increased to include five weights additional weights for Bay Tavern will have to wait for now, adding the notched cut in's were all done by hand which causes a lot of cramping so a long break is needed before creating the extra weights. The Fill fonts in the Bayside Tavern family are meant to be layered behind the Bayside Open fonts, if you're using Bayside Open select Bayside Fill, if you're using Bayside Open L select Bayside Fill L, if you're using Bayside Open S select Bayside Fill S and so on.

ITC Merss proves that sometimes accidents work out just fine. Late one evening Eduardo Manso, an Argentinean graphic and type designer, spilled coffee on his desk. When he began to wipe up the mess, he noticed that one of the splashes looked like a roman letter 'l' - complete with serifs. This triggered his imagination. “What if a complete alphabet was created with this same irregular flow to the character designs?” ITC Merss was the result of Manso's experiments with “fluid” letter shapes. The oddly handsome design looks aged and spontaneous at the same time. Its irregular texture is striking-the result of careful modeling of character shapes. While Manso wanted to maintain the free-form character of spilled liquid, he also knew the individual letters had to work together with an underlying harmony. When not experimenting with typefaces - or spilled coffee - Manso creates award-winning graphic and publication designs. A contributor to the design magazine el Huevo (the Egg), he also writes articles on type and typography and is part of the publication's design team.
