Mezalia is a one of a kind typeface. Its shapes were strongly influenced by bastarda scripts of high medieval times. Unlike most fonts sharing similar origin, Mezalia is not just another blackletter but a fully functional text typeface, blending medieval poise and character with modern sensibilities. Stroke widths, imitating a broad nibbed pen of a scribe, fluctuate constantly giving paragraphs a characteristic vibrating texture. Despite it's strong character Mezalia is very legible and will be an excellent choice for a book or an elegant magazine. Mezalia has two distinct styles: straight and cursive (true italic if you will, although the word is not really correct here), which come in seven weights, from thin to black. Linotype Belle is a casual script face. Created in 1999 by the Swiss designer Isabelle Stutz, the letters in this design have a light, informal nature, and appear as if they were written out quickly, using a writing instrument similar to a ballpoint pen. Linotype Belle has two fonts to offer: Linotype Belle Plain and Linotype Belle Bonus. Linotype Belle Bonus contains more extravagant, swash-like capitals than Linotype Belle Plain's characters; when used together, these two fonts can create a varied, lively impression. Linotype Belle was a prizewinner in Linotype's Third International Type Design Contest. Additionally, the design is part of the innovative Take Type Library, and can be purchased as part of the Take Type 3.1 CD collection. Pantoufle is French for slipper. Not the flipflop variety (or thongs if you’re from Australia), but the one you wear indoors when it’s cold. I have some too; Spanish ones, made from recycled PET bottles. Here in Holland, we call them ‘Pantoffels’ and you don’t have to be a language expert to see the resemblance between the French and the Dutch word. That is because the French are probably more savvy when it comes to keeping your feet warm and the Dutch just borrowed the word, pronunciation and all! Pantoufle is a font I made with a big fat marker pen. My kids had used it to decorate some gifts for Sinterklaas (if you want to know what Sinterklaas is, look it up). Buddies, designed by Guille Vizzari, is a script font that was initially born as a piece of lettering. The British Vogue commissioned this typeface for their magazine re-design in 2001. After studying the originals of Morris Fuller Benton and the existing versions, this font was designed with all new thin weights. Just when the family was finished, Vogue informed that they had decided to use American Typewriter instead. Bastards. But here is a true classic typeface with a facelift. The pun intended. Tee Franklin has seven weights with obliques, the Heavy being just slightly heavier than the existing versions from Adobe and ITC, and moving down to totally new Ultra Light, using Luc(as) de Groot's formula to keep the weights optically correct. The glyphs are the same as the Morris Fuller Benton's original from 1902, except for the upper case Q, which was re-designed with a loop in the counter for added differentiation.

Stretto (Italian for narrow) is a revival, correction and expansive update of an Aldo Novarese reverse-stress font called Sintex, which he did for VGC in 1973. Openly idiosyncratic and playfully rebellious in its design, this alphabet fuses the straights and rounds in an unusual manner, riffing on the idea of hand-made sign and wood type forms while adhering to its odd grid’s parameters. In spite of its counter-stress, its legibility is high and even, helped by its unicase forms and very distinct counters. First released in 2007, it became quite popular with film studios and nostalgia designers (Sintex was the font used for David Bowie’s Hunky Dory album and Life on Mars? single). The famous Irish poet and novelist Jonathan Swift (Dublin 1667-1745) has a large personal library of which he noticed carefully the book list by himself. We have used a facsimile from this catalogue to reconstruct this present font, as one example of the poet’s personal hands but also as a typical example of the British quill pen handwriting from about mid 1600’s to the beginning of 1700’s . It is a “Pro” font containing Western (including Celtic) and Northern European, Icelandic, Baltic, Eastern, Central European and Turquish diacritics. The numerous alternates and ligatures allow to made the font looking as closely as possible to the real hand. Using an OTF software, the features allow to vary automatically almost each character of a word without anything to do but to select contextual alternates and standard ligatures and/or stylistic alternates options.

Tahoma™ Family is one of Microsoft's most popular sans serif typeface families. Paradise Lost is a 1667 poem by John Milton which mostly concerns the Biblical story of the Fall of Man, Eve's temptation by the devil and the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Eden. It's quite a hefty read, as the poem consists of ten books with over 10.000 lines of verse. Needless to say, I didn't read it all. But, it did give me inspiration for a font, which I called Paradise Lost. It's a good name, even though there is nothing Biblical about this font. Paradise Lost was created (pun intended) using a broken bamboo satay skewer and Chinese ink. It is all caps, but upper and lower case differ and like to mingle. I also included several ligatures for double lower case letters (aa, ee, jj, kk, etc.). Paradise Lost comes with an eternity of diacritics.

It was my first attempt to drawing a Hebrew alphabet to mach directly with other typeface (Latin) which I already designed. The Latin version is an handwriting display typeface influenced by chancery handwriting from the Italian Renaissance (broad-nib pen). One of the most typographic characteristic is there wavy forms, especially the serifs, where contains some of the main calligraphic references from this font family. The Hebrew script contain reverse contrast, the vertical proportions are more tall and the stroke weight is slightly more strong than latin lowercase to produce a correct visual balance between them, especially on small sizes (text proportions). This Hebrew square book-hand was influenced by Sephardic script style. The Latin characters contains interrupted strokes, the same was made for Hebrew letterforms to transpose correctly the same calligraphic approach between these two different alphabets.

Mojito is a lively and vigorous calligraphic font based on a brush pen calligraphy. The author carefully rethought all of the character forms and created a very concise and clean outline that would look great in any size. Mojito has about 1,400 characters, including alternatives, ligatures, initial and final forms. That’s why letters are not repeated and their combinations look as natural as possible, especially in Cyrillic. For an all caps set in Mojito you can include the replacement of basic forms with the simplified ones, specifically designed for this purpose. Two additional styles imitate writing over a rough surface and a relief print. Mojito is perfect for packaging and advertising, food and beverages, cafes and restaurants, craftsmanship, children's books, magazines, etc. The font was designed by Zahar Yaschin and released by Paratype in 2017. ITC Rastko began as a series of initial letters for a book of poetry. Serbian designer Olivera Stojadinovic had been working with a small publishing house creating a special series of books under the Masterpieces" brand. Her goal was to draw a new set of initial letters for each book. ITC Rastko, named after the Serbian poet Rastko Petrovic, was a project that required initial letters for the entire alphabet. Once Stojadinovic had drawn the majority of the capital letters, she realized that a companion lowercase would make a distinctive script typeface. Sketches of the letters were drawn quickly with a pointed pen. Stojadinovic then refined these, keeping the spontaneous, hand-drawn quality. Capitals are wide and flourished, while the lowercase letters are more condensed and subdued. It's no surprise that the capitals also make great initial letters."
