Bolívar is a contemporary display typeface inspired in the handwriting of one of the most prominent personalities of the Latin American 19th century: Simón Bolívar, “the liberator". Sztos (2018-2022) is a remix of one of the most famous grotesques used in Poland – Baccarat (published by Jan Idźkowski i S-ka in 1922). My version loosely refers to the original. On the one hand, I wanted to modernize the drawing and proportions, on the other hand, I did’t want to lose the historical flavour and details in which you can still feel traditional printing. In addition to the fairly wide version of the normal style, there is also a narrow version. Thanks to this contrast, Sztos gives the possibility of expressive combinations of different styles. Sandokan is a brush script font with a character and morphology that nears Oriental calligraphy, Art Nouveau typefaces, psychedelic “flower power” fonts from the Sixties and Tuscan poster fonts from the 19th century. Its main features are the high contrast between thick and thin strokes and the extreme slanted angle in the typewriter imprints, creating inverse shadowing. The letter set is further accentuated by exotic decorative details and the often unusual connectors between small letters. The typeface supports all languages using the universal Latin character set. Sandokan is a slightly sweetened cultural cocktail. Nosta is a modern text typeface. It was designed to be easily legible and therefore expressly suitable for setting sizeable lengths of continuous text such as magazine articles, books and essays. It achieves this through, amongst other things, finely balanced proportions, optimal character spacing and an adherence to predictable letter forms. Despite this, however, Nosta manages to retain a contemporary look and feel by using a variety of modern type design devices such as the efficacious wedge serif. The italic avoids using too many of the cursive elements that are often found in traditional italics and has only a modest slant, giving it a modern look that does not overly disrupt the text while still providing emphasis. P22 Kelly is a Celtic-styled uncial font with a medieval gothic flavor and an overall contemporary feel. The font is an addition to Ted Staunton’s collection of historical and period-based fonts. It is ideal for uses that need to evoke the Celtic spirit or the medieval period. Based on half-uncial Irish monastic handwriting of the 8th to 10th centuries, but instead of having a traditional upright stress, has an italic slant. Some Gothic influence is evident—like the thorn-like tick-marks decorating the capitals—but the rounded forms of h, m, n, u emphasize a wide, open, horizontal visual texture. The font is named in honor of the Book of Kells, the 8th-century masterpiece of Celtic calligraphic art, which is kept in Trinity College, Dublin.

Buddy is the new companion sans for Contenu, the book font family designed for my book on font design design. Originally, I called it Compagnon, but that seemed to pompous. Then I called it Aide, but that was too formal and dry. It's a loose, free, easy to read sans, so when my wife suggested Buddy, it clicked. This is the 4-font Buddy family of Regular, Italic, Bold, & Bold Italic. I made a new, more limited feature set for these fonts due to their designed usage, but there are still small caps, small cap figures, oldstyle figures, numerators, and denominators. The bold is closer to a black, and the italics are only slightly slanted obliques. If you need a strong black in caps, use the small caps of the bold.

Estragon is a vivid sans-serif text face with venetian influences, suitable especially for books. It is remarkable for: its light slant, to the right, for most of the verticals, its small sized uppercase letters making it suitable for languages where they are often used (for example German,) and its just lightly inclined true italics. For a wide language support, Estragon contains a lot of accented characters including the polish kreska. IMPuzzled uses the OpenType feature of Contextual Alternatives to alternate two sets of characters. The sets are on two puzzle pieces that tessellate, that is, fit together to fill the plane with no gaps or overlaps. Empty pieces are on the brace keys and can be used to fill spaces. The black or solid style is designed to be used in a layer under the regular style, though it can be used alone if adjacent pieces are given different colors. This unusual font has limited uses but may be appropriate when the topic is related to the broad areas of puzzles, puzzled, and fitting pieces together.

Young Baroque was designed by Doyald Young, and the font first appeared in the ITC library in 1984. It is a delicate and elegant typeface, whose basic forms are those of baroque script. The generous spirals adorning the capital letters give the font its temperament and contrast beautifully with the small, heavily slanted lower case letters. The flowing, graceful characters create an overall image of aristocratic elegance and dignity. Originally designed by Morris Fuller Benton in 1925, FontHaus's 1995 revival is based on a design named "Novelty Broadway". Characters were referenced from "Commercial Art of Show Card Lettering" by James Eisenberg, published by D. Van Nostrand Company in 1945. This Broadway is classic Broadway but with some charming differences such as a slanted lower case "f" a remarkable lower case "g" and a high-waisted upper case case "R", as only a few examples. It was named "Novelty" because the alphabet incorporated a concave design feature in the tops and bottoms of each letter. These differences allow this version to possess much more personality than that of all other Broadway designs on the market. It looks almost hand brushed, has soft edges and is no where near as sterile looking as all the other digital versions. It feels very 1925!

One of the first messy typewriter fonts to hit the market, Chandler 42 was compiled with forensic care from the voluminous output of a circa 1942 portable. Eloisa is based on the penmanship of Andrea Stuart's eponymous aunt. The slow, meticulous strokes with which Eloisa writes is the result of formal (and meticulous) instruction in cursive writing back in her secondary education in an exclusive all-girls school. The interesting mix of smooth curves and sharp strokes combined with the slanted orientation make for an elegant yet dynamic visual appeal. Modesto Initials had existed as a single font for several years. I recently added a fill font to put color in the Inlines. The Inline font still works by itself. The Fill font works alone too, as an ultra Modesto on steroids. They work best together. Modesto is a loose-knit family based on a signpainters lettering style popular in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. It evolved from the lettering I used for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus Logo. The Modesto family was not planned. It just happened, a few fonts at a time over about fifteen years. Redwater Banker is a Western slab-serif typeface. A historical frontier lettering, this font is rough and eroded, with a tough and confident attitude. Redwater Banker is a serif font with a strong cowboy personality, reminiscent of a bank or saloon in the Old West. As the first multi-font family designed for the CounterPoint font library, Plectrum offers designers and font lovers an alternative to the usual display style fonts of CounterPoint with a low key yet elegant sans serif family that can serve a variety of functions. Designed as a humanist style sans serif, the letters have variation in stroke weight. The italic faces have some variation in the letter design making them more of a true italic rather than simple oblique faces. The complete family consist of four weights: Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic which can be purchased separately or as a complete package. The typeface has some unique features which add warmth to the design such as a slanted cross bar on the lowercase e and a large x-height. This is a solid, versatile family. Capraia is a book typeface, with a heavily quirky look when shown at big sizes, and with an irregular but attractive rhythm at text sizes. Capraia Book and Regular are designed specifically for continuous texts: Book meets a current preference of Italian publishers for lighter faces, while the slightly heavier Regular is intended for the wider international market. True to its vocation for publishing, Capraia has a big x-height, medium contrast and wide bracketed serifs. Furthermore, its slightly flattened curves, some unconventional roman letterforms (a, G, Q) and the 'slanted roman' italics, along with design details such as ball terminals, give to the whole family a very contemporary appeal. Originally the design was intended as a tribute to Caslon's Great Primer but at a certain point the designer was enthralled by Baskerville. Capraia is the unpredicted and original result of that intense experience.
