We produce original printing press letter fonts, for example from the journal Southern Literary Messenger (circa 1830 - 1870). The only one in the world. What makes our fonts so attractive to the eye, are the myriad imperfections. It's not an approximation to the printing-press letters--- these are the actual letters, complete with all their manifold differences. If you look closely you will notice that the letter 'e' say, each time it is printed, is slightly different. These differences arise from the mechanical action of the inked-wooden press on the paper, and cannot be faked by artificial means. The eye subconsciously picks up this text as the actual printing press letters. Edgar Allan Poe published many of his great works in the Southern Literary Messenger, as did many other great nineteenth century writers, ie. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Nathaniel Hawthorne &c.

Ok. Another font with cats in it. I asked my son, Sam (age 4), to draw some cats and I have to say: I'm very proud of what he created. The tiger I asked him for became a spinosaurus mom with her baby and I also got some happy hearts thrown in for good measure. The Cat's Whiskers is a very legible hand made font. Nice and loose, not too messy and with just a hint of childishness. Comes with a litter of diacritics. Oh… and a big thank you to Jakob from pizzadude.dk for suggesting I should post more pics of cats on FB - which eventually led to the name of this font.

Clarks is a modular typeface built from a work by Lygia Clark, one of the giants of Brazilian postwar art. Packed in a font equipped with clever OpenType programming, there are at least 7 different designs for each letter, thus allowing, or rather, proposing, boldly unconventional compositions. The font is programmed to cycle all these different lettershapes, avoiding repetition. The user can also manually pick up preferred forms in a glyph palette. There are choices to both keep and to defy readability and it's almost hypnotic to play with these. Lygia Clark used to invite viewers to touch her works and so we did with her 'Planes in Modulated Surface no. 4', from 1957: we fragment it and turned and inverted and recombined it. Komu is the revival of a style of letters frequently used on billboards during the socialist period in the former Czechoslovakia. These were usually uppercase letters made of paper and covered with a layer of aluminum foil. People just had to pick the letters (that included a variety of widths and sizes) out from a box and pin them up on a styrofoam billboard, thus making it easy to announce any event. Komu consists of two styles. Version A is rather squarish and includes some weird characters (K, 5, narrow E, strange diacritics) while version B is more rounded with most letters equally wide (with the exception of E, F and L, which look really wide next to the rest). The optical disparity of the original letters was kept, so that some of them look slightly darker than the others. Komu is intended to be used on posters, books and other products about Socialism in our region and includes full support for languages based on latin script.

CA Normal Serif is the perfect companion to its grotesque brother CA Normal. But it is not just a serifed equivalent. It has a character of its own while preserving the principal proportions and the idea of quirkiness. It was not the aim to build a typeface that can immediately be identified as a relative of CA Normal. The intention was to create a matching typeface in aspects of aesthetic and concept. Whereas commonly serif-companions to grotesques are old-style or slab-serif, CA Normal Serif is situated between modern and slab-serif typefaces. CA Normal Serif is a little bit of an uncomfortable typeface. Nothing is smooth and cozy. It picks up elements of classic newspaper type as brought to us by Chauncey H. Griffith's legibility group, sharing the flavor of abrasive details and "slabbish" serifs. But the proportions are more condensed than the ones of its predecessors giving it a bit more elegance, which moves it closer to the aesthetic of "Scotch Romans".
