Project D is the fourth typeface released by DM Founts. It was inspired by the infamous graffiti atop the former Heygate Estate in South London, which I had passed by numerous times on the overground train years ago. Heygate Estate has since been replaced by soulless luxury flats, as per the gentrification agenda. The letters don't entirely match the graffiti as they were created from memory, but I thought such a profound statement should be honoured. Project D is best used for impact at large sizes, although it should scale well. Use it for computer interfaces, retro headings and anything involving defiance, espionage, infiltration and spy games.

Havel is an updated interpretation of a Czech type design from the 1930s. It is powerful and very condensed. At a quick glance you might find kinship with other condensed typefaces of the same period, like Spire (Sol Hess, 1937), Onyx (Gerry Powell for ATF, 1937) or Quirinus Bold (Alessandro Butti, 1939). But Havel has its very own look, rooted in the rapidly disappearing "Eastern European Type", a typographical tradition where poster and packaging design were the highlights. Torbjörn Olsson has revived this classical Czech beauty, and the Open Type version, Havel Pro, can also be used for Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian.

This font takes its name and the overall shape from modern bentwood furniture, namely Scandinavian designs since the 1940s. The curved corners of the letterforms are practically hyperbolic, to convey the tension and strength of the bent plywood. These curves are meant to appear more dynamic than circular or elliptical segments of traditional sans serif fonts. The letterforms are simplified, without extra corners, stems, connections or hooks, yet remain legible at any size. Now at version 2, Bentwood contains Central/Eastern European, Baltic and Turkish character sets and more ligatures with Open Type functionality. Tierra Script is a connected script typeface with a simple structure and organic contour. Its naivety and fluency makes it easy to read and close to everyone. The system has two main styles, one more formal than the other, then could be used in a wide diversity of designs applying the appropriate look. Also has other features, like swashes, alternative characters and contextual replacements. All that features are supported by a careful Open Type programmation, then is just needed to play a little with the font to obtain lovely words and phrases. Some features are present in all the fonts but the "Plus" version contains all of them.

Grafika is a completely original design, done in an “Art Deco” spirit reminiscent of the 1920s and ‘30s. I designed Grafika many years ago to be typeset for title cards, and both opening and end credits for the Merchant/Ivory feature film “Savages”. After the film, the design languished in my archives until I rediscovered it. I have digitally redrawn Grafika, completing it with all the alternates, ligatures, math, foreign accented characters and punctuation that weren’t required of the original design for film. Grafika is strongest when set in upper and lowercase—its unique caps extending below the baseline—although all caps settings are encouraged as well.

Samarquand is a handwritten script design from Roy Preston. Based on the handwriting of a friend, Roy has expanded this friendly, semi-connecting script to include three weights, Light, Regular and Bold, opening up even more design possibilities. The Samarquand fonts support an extended character set, as well as some ligatures, inferior and superior numbers, and unlimited fractions. There are some really nice letterforms in these fonts, particularly that uppercase W! Peruse the posters to see. A happy, and delicate family, available in 5 weights. Being very legible in small sizes, it pays tribute to French designer Roger Excoffon, particularly to his Antique Olive type. Antique Olive combines two features which inspired the design of Quimera: a large x-height with open counters which ensures legibility at tiny body sizes; and letterforms with a horizontal stress which contradicts the logics of calligraphic tradition (thick verticals, thin horizontals). Quimera has a typical sanserif stroke modulation, but letters have a very thin, capricious serif, which helps to keep the texline's continuity. This 'genetic' contradiction is the reason for its name: Khimera, as it would be a 'sanserif avec'!

Csemege is a fully cursive even script inspired by Hungary's 60' 70's shop signages of mostly food and grocery stores and restaurants, and their neon light scripts. Csemege means Delicatessen in Hungarian. I have developed this set of characters with Contextual alternates and a few Stylistic alternates to make the letter connections smooth and perfect. It has a friendly look yet decorative and elegant script. The Ancient North Arabian scripts Ancient North Arabian is the name given to a group of scripts belonging to the South Semitic script family, which also includes the Ancient South Arabian alphabets (musnad and zabūr) and the vocalized alphabets used in Ethiopia for Geʿez, Amharic, etc. The Ancient North Arabian scripts were used both in the oases (Dadanitic, Dumaitic, Taymanitic,) and by the nomads (Hismaic, Safaitic, Thamudic B, C, D, and possibly Southern Thamudic). There are tens of thousands of inscriptions and graffiti in these scripts which were used in the period roughly between the sixth century BC and the fourth century AD.
