This slighty messy handwritten font was inspired by the scrawl of a teenager given a marker. Meaning it was inspired by my own quick writing at the time. Right down to the stars.

Diorite is modern face built on classical letterforms -- but left with a bit of residual roughness. Some might call Diorite forthright, others brutal. (It reminded the designer of the dark, hard igneous rock of the same name, treasured by the ancient Egyptians for statuary.) The typeface has a relatively chunky, four-style family; the italics are true cancellaresca corsiva, also writ heavy. "The cancellaresca is of course a Gothic design," notes the designer. When I started working on this font, I had the radio on. Ed Sheeran was singing his song ‘Castle On The Hill’ and when I looked at this new font of mine, I couldn’t help but notice it had a bit of a medieval look. So I named it Castle On The Hill. COTH is a very lively, messy handpainted serif. It was made with a Japanese brush pen. I actually had a different look in mind, but this is what came out of the pen and I quite liked its looks. It is especially useful for children’s book covers, apps and posters, but be my guest and use it as you like. All it needs is a designers’ touch, a nice tune and a sunset.

This is a fully connected script font, not calligraphic, but entirely designed to follow handwritten cursive ligatures rules as teached in schools. In order to correctly visualize it, you have to enable OpenType features (Contextual Alternates, Discretionary Ligatures, Standard Ligatues and Kerning). Trying to write All Capitals will generate Block Letters writings, since cursive style doesn't allow more than the first uppercase per word, however this font is not meant to be a Block Letters font. Using specific type combinations will generate special glyphs. All of these features are intended to reproduce a classic schoolboy or schoolgirl notebook.

If you are like me, you love to doodle in a sketchbook when traveling abroad to capture the indescribable moments that a camera or video would miss. Years ago, on a trip to Spain, I penned out this fanciful handwritten script and just fell in love with it. I came across that old sketchbook recently, and the love affair was renewed.
