Donald DBXL Beekman lives on a ship in Amsterdam’s waters (well, the Amstel river, actually). Living on the water inspired him to design this ‘cruise ship’ typeface VLNL Decks. Available in several variations, it’s a fabulous cocktail of freshly caught fish typography. Decks is recommended for seafood restaurants, speed boats as well as slick city boys wearing overly expensive sunglasses or Ibiza sunset parties. Decks is the tiger prawn amidst sea foods. Beletrio was made as companion to Beletria, it has many shapes in common. We already have plenty of sans-serif fonts with classical proportions in the Stormtype library, such as John Sans, Sebastian or Andulka, but Beletrio is certainly the most peaceful of the bunch – it shares not only the feel of its serif originator, but its soft curves provide lovely visual caress as well. Inspired by the streets of Brazil, Just Pixo is a display typeface that mimics pixação, Brazilian graffiti. In his book Pixação: São Paulo Signature, François Chastanet says, “This alphabet, with its vertical inscriptions axis, is to be directly classified in the king-size, monumental category; the systematic use of capitals, meticulously aligned and justified, their extreme verticality, are symptomatic of this architectural dimension”. As such, we designed Just Pixo for monumental type sizes and vertical alignments—a family with seven weights, alternate glyphs, multiple ligatures and is provided as a Variable Font too. Zart is a heavy yet delicately sensitive display typeface filled with character, a free interpretation of the classical French styles from the late eighteenth century, reimagined for modern use. While it’s vertical strokes carry the typical weight of this style, the thinness of the horizontal strokes is further extended into the characters with the introduction of large vertical ink traps. This allowed us to design slightly narrower letters which, coupled with shorter serifs, result in a overall darker expression, creating really impactful headlines. Zart is available in three versions: Regular, Italic and Script.

Saturnight Regular is a proportional and kerned typeface. The name is a variation of Saturnight, which is itself the anagram of Unstraight. This is because vertical lines are Unstraight sticks. It's a consequence of the Design rule * Glyphs are built from segments on a triangular tessellation (cf. poster 1) Note 1: Unstraight lines depend from the chosen tesselation orientation (here the tesselation has horizontal lines and thus Unstraight verticals). Note 2: The encoding is Windows Latin 'ANSI', which includes Icelandic characters (as illustrated by poster 3).

A typeface originally inspired by a wall lettering in a small chapel on Crete, Greece. Despite its experimental character it works nicely in a text environment. Crete is perfect for display use where a feminine and elegant touch is desired. The unusual serifs and terminals add to the graceful appearance in the Thin and provide a more robust feel in the Thick. Both weights are metrically interchangeable, so text will not reflow when mixed. The accompanying Italics have several different lettershapes and therefore have, in some cases, their own widths. However, they sit comfortably next to the uprights. The style names refer to the change in serif weight instead of increasing vertical stem widths. Crete features our Basic Extended character set including four sets of numerals, ligatures. fractions, superior/inferior numerals and language support for over 40 languages that use the Latin script. Crete was selected as winner of the Granshan competition 2008 in the display type category.

Fluted pillars… As for the name of "Cyceon", it is a "juice-drink" that they made in ancient Greece...! In this font the straight lines are not vertical but inclined like something from the Doric columns!!! There are two versions of letters. In the first version, it is of a normal character, while in the second version I have mixed some capitals with lower case letters. I have given them the acronym Msc "miscellaneous". I tried in this way to give another version of the small capitals and I think they show a different view from the purely small capitals… And in this family, the “Strap”/“Strap Msc”/“StrapIt”/ and “Strap MscIt” with “Solid”/“Solid Msc”/“SolidIt”/ and “Solid MscIt” engage in the same way like… “Layered font families” as the previous series. This series is composed and includes twenty-four fonts with 642-658 glyphs each, with true italics and supports Latin, Greek and Cyrillic.

Sasparillo is an "extreme" Tuscan face, with reversed emphasis, by which we mean the horizontals are far heavier than the verticals. Recreate the spirit of the "Wild West" with a sense of fun!

Qeuliner is a font with a modern, sporty, and futuristic design. Carrying the form of oblique blocks separated by vertical lines. Very suitable for use on sports-themed displays, racing, games, space, etc.

Take a classic Western wood type where the horizontals are thicker than the verticals and remove the slab serifs… The result is Western Sans JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

ArgonType is the first commercial font produced by Vic Fieger. It features thick vertical strokes, soft curves, and incomplete loops. It was designed to be used as an alternative for serif fonts where appropriate.

Bold, graphic and with a strong vertical emphasis. Built from simple geometric shapes, Zeno is similar to some of Joseph Albers’ Bauhaus experiments, though with attention paid to normalising the lettershapes to improve readability.

I remember a tea ceremony I attended in Fukuoka, Japan. The teahouse was set in a small, but beautiful garden and the whole idea of the ceremony was to appreciate the view from the porch. I thought the tea was quite bitter, but the view was unsurpassed. From time to time these memories pop up and I have to use them - that is why I named this font Teacup. Teacup is a slightly eroded all caps font, made entirely by hand with a Japanese marker pen and some high quality textured paper. It comes in a romantic open style and a more solid closed style. Teacup is filled to the brim with diacritics.

Toulouse is a city of culture. It has long nurtured literature, music, dance, theater and concerts. It is therefore an entirely appropriate name for an elegant and classical french-style font. Ellington was designed by jazz lover, Michael Harvey for Monotype in 1990, and named after the great band leader, Duke Ellington. From experience gained carving letters in stone and drawing them for book jacket designs, Michael Harvey has created a condensed typeface combining the clear-cut sparkle of a modern face with some of the lively features of the broad-edged pen. Ellington has a fresh elegance that is particularly effective in display, while its compressed forms will prove economical in text settings.
