☞ Bona Nova is a collective revival project of Bona typeface designed in 1971 by the author of polish banknotes Andrzej Heidrich. Besides giving the project a digital font form the aim was to expand the base character set: preparation of small caps, designing the alternative glyphs and multiple opentype features. Working together with the author we designed two new text versions: regular and bold – to give the family a form of a classic script triad. ☞ It is accompanied by three title versions and three contour styles under the name of Bona Sforza. All styles contains over 1200 glyphs. ☞ Bona Nova is an unprecedented typographic adventure for our team. We hope that our work will allow the cultural heritage of Bona and the work of Andrzeja Heidricha to gain new followers and fans. This project connected three generations of graphic designers who graduated the same school – the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. ☞ Bona Nova isn’t only a typeface. We have also prepared a book about the project (including an interview with Andrzej Heidrich, my text about the digitalisation and a font specimen). Preta, portuguese for a very pure kind of black, has its name very related to its concept: I wanted to make the fattest/darkest script ever. People who follow my work may notice its forms are very related to works of my past (1) but this time the challenge was to be very cautious with the white spaces between letters. Not only I followed some rules and ductus of the copperplate style of calligraphy but also I took a lot of inspiration in posters of the early Art Nouveau (specially in Alfred Roller of the Vienna Secession) where letters forms looked like black squares if not looked from a close distance. With Preta, I wanted to achieve that same idea of “darkness” and thanks to the always welcomed question -what if?- the font grew a lot. The result is a very fat font, that looks delicious. Due to possible customer needs, I designed Preta Small, so it can be used in smaller sizes. Preta Ao Sol (which literally means under the sun!) is a style with those lovely tiny details to give the sensation of bright. Preta Ao Sol Solo was made to be used as a layered font with Preta. Finally, Preta Capitals serves as a company for Preta. Hope you enjoy the font as much as I did when designing it: The fact that it’s full of alternates, swashes, ligatures and swirls makes it really pleasurable at the moment of using it. Westpart was born from the previous three brush fonts: 1. Northen, 2. Easttalia and 3. Southen. This font is part of the 4 directions that cannot be separated. It has a styling brush that is very different from before, because the Westpart has its own advantages. Westpart has a bonus splatter, ligature, and swash that has a very detailed brush effect. In addition, Westpart is very supportive of the use of 27 languages.

This family of decorated initial letters was inspired from a French catalogue dedicated to engravers, embroiders and jewelers. unfortunately, we don't know the name of the illustrator, no more than the publisher, because a large part of the pages seems to have been lost or have been damaging, so, we have had to redrawn a few of figures. The font is containing standard Latin capitals without diacritics, identically repeated in lower case keys, and numerals.

It’s a mixture of digital exactness and analog freedom. With over 130 Opentype features, the font can change its look from strict to charming twirly. Tobias Gutmann designed the Font in 2009/10 in the Typoclub which is part of the Hochschule der Künste Bern.

A revival of sorts, Freaky Frog BF is modeled after an 1887 design from Central Type Foundry, called Grimaldi. Much warmth and charm have been instilled into the original design through among other means, reworked contours and serifs. Contours are smoothened, liberated from its roughness, while serifs have become somewhat concave. Verticals and horizontals appear to "swell" owed in part to flared shapes. The overall effect, I believe, is one of pure typographic endearment.

Linotype Boundaround is part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests from 1994 and 1997. German artist Christina Sachse gave her font a mystical feel. The vertical strokes meet the base line at a point and the strokes vary in their width. The lively Linotype Boundaround is suitable for shorter texts in point sizes 12 or larger and for headlines in larger point sizes.

Linotype Atomatic is part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. German artist Johannes Plass designed his font in one strongly-crafted weight. Linotype Atomatic seems to mirror the fast pace and technology of modern times. The slight lean to the right gives an impression of speed and movement. Linotype Atomatic is intended exclusively for headlines in larger point sizes.

HU Sansans KR is a San-serif Korean fonts. It is a solid and trendy full square typeface that contains powerful and bright energy. I created a young and bright feeling by making a blank at the bottom of the first consonant of the initial letter, and the curve of the first part continued the bright feeling of the font. By configuring 4 types of font families, the usability of typefaces has been increased.

Geulwoll is a Korean word for letters. HU Geulwoll is a handwritten font that conveys a calm feeling by creating a lyrical and old atmosphere. In order to emphasize the feeling of writing with a marker, each end was made to fall diagonally, a characteristic of the marker. A piece of hand lettered sheet music from the era of the "Roaring Twenties" served as a model for Raccoon Coat JNL. It was a time of Prohibition, bathtub gin, flappers and college boys decked out in beanies and raccoon coats. College pennants, ukuleles and "23 Skidoo" were all part of the youth culture during this period; which gave us such dances at the Charleston, the Black Bottom and the Lindy Hop.

Linotype Seven is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. This prize-winning font was designed by the German artist Christian Vornehm. The font looks as though hastily drawn with a wide, bristly brush, as though the scribe was in a hurry. Linotype Seven is loaded with energy and spontaneity. It is intended exclusively for short headlines in larger point sizes.

The font has a pronounced decorative effect and is suitable for the gaming, publishing and film industry. The Cyrillic alphabet conveys the spirit and atmosphere of Soviet constructivism. It is well suited for names of Soviet (or pseudo-Soviet) trademarks, large headings, signs, giant letter structures, etc. The Latin part is not tied to the Soviet period and can be applied in a wider range. String Theory has been a 10+ year project in the making which originated from a type workshop in Graduate School at Otis College of Art & Design. The workshop was hosted by Dutch designer Hansje Van Halem, and we were tasked to play with string to create letterforms. Thus String Theory was born, and slowly migrated from yarn, to an illustrator file, to what it is today as a type family. Each glyph has it’s own custom string set up, along with each weight. Experimental in nature, edgy, with subliminal angst and grittiness.

Atrium, designed by Alex Jacque, is a strong, linear, geometric sans-serif display typeface based off century-old pen art by W.E. Dennis. Not your average monospaced typeface, Base Mono flourishes with several handsome OT features mostly found exclusively in text fonts. Despite the geometric and techno feel of the initial roman version, the cursive version is heavily influenced by traditional Finnish weaving and folk art! The contradiction is taken further by inclusion of such classical features as small capitals and lower case figures, usually found in slightly more traditional fonts. Centennial Script Easy is the Intellecta digitization of the classic font from Hermann Ihlenburg in 1876 developed originally for the MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan typefoundry. We decided to digitize only the uppercases to this work, and to create a different version to this anciente design, we joined the uppercase to the lowercase set of another classic font, Pentagraph. This is a fraction of the global project, which is complete with the Centennial Script Fancy and Centennial Ornaments fonts, making a complete ornamental family of lettering solutions with genuine and original art-noveau taste.

The 1930 Geneva Motor Show (Salon International De l'Automobile Et Du Cycle) showcased a lot of new cars, but one item in particular took my interest: the amazing art deco poster announcing the show. Lokomotiv font was based on this poster. It is a very deco-ish font, futuristic, angular, with bold squares, rounds and triangles. As I had to work with just a handful of glyphs, and needed to fill an entire font, I made up the missing ones myself. Lokomotiv, by the way, is German for Locomotive.
