Flagstaff JNL takes the lettering from Roma Initial Caps JNL and gives them the movement of an unfurled banner. For added effect, there are flagpoles facing in either direction on the lesser and greater keys. Left and right flag ends are placed on the parenthesis keys; a wide blank flag panel is on the left brace key and a narrow blank flag panel is on the right brace key. Modern digital typography pushes many designers to try and achieve visual perfection with their lettering. In the days of wooden type, the premise was more in creating a font that "sold" the message (possibly, in part due to the lack of advanced tooling to achieve uniformity). In many styles of wood type (such as the one used as a model for Broadletter JNL), there are vast differences within the character design, weight and symmetry from letter to letter. This is now looked upon as "old fashioned" and "charming" - part of the appeal of this typeface.

Floki is a contemporary condensed sans serif with sixteen styles ranging from extralight to extrabold and accompanying italics. The amount of styles, condensed proportions and large character set make Floki suitable for various uses such as infographics, packaging, branding, advertising and editorial design. Floki’s aesthetics are distinctly modern and they have a hint of softness which comes from sublty curving the diagonal strokes in letters such as A and V. Worthington Arcade is a classically-proportioned capitals-only type incorporating a selection of ligatures and alternates. It loosely resembles the hand-painted architectural lettering of the 30s to the 50s, exemplified by the likes of Percy Smith’s interior signage for the BBC or George Mansell’s lettering for the University of London and the signs found on London’s bridges. However, rather than a slavish copy of any historical model, it is more an examination and evocation of certain idiosyncratic quirks of civic lettering of the period, and an attempt to create a peculiarly English titling typeface. The round letters, for example the O, Q and C, are wider than the perfect circle usually found in such designs, while the straight-sided characters, usually drawn on a square, are narrower. This lends the whole a subtle elegance that is also emphasized by the raised crossbars on the H, E and F and extended lower leg of the E. Includes old-style numerals.

When I released Halogen, I asked ‘Who doesn't want or need an expansive contemporary extended sans that has a sense of style and swagger… what if it had a lowercase, small caps and various numeral options… how could you say no?’ Go, click on the Halogen link and read on, if you're interested. Halogen was well-received, so I decided to take it further with Halogen Slab (the name kinda tips you off as to what kind of typeface it is, don't ya think?). As always, I prefer not to take short cuts and provide an anemic offering of glyphs — a modern typeface offered today must provide more than just the basics and this one does — lowercase, smallcaps, old style numerals, tabular forms, stylistic and titling alternates, fractions, case-sensitive features, and even an alternate uppercase ordinal set is included. Decorative, Display, Headline, Serif, 1920s, Hand Lettered, Engraved, Incised, Bold, Extra Bold, Retro, Vintage, Nostalgic An ad in the July 27, 1928 issue of The Film Daily for FBO Pictures was an encouragement to all theaters to accept the emergence of 'talking pictures' and "Don't be Panicked by Sound". The headline text was hand lettered in an extra bold serif type face with engraved [incised] lines. The lettering has been redrawn as the digital type face Movie Usher JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

I have always been frustrated when looking for a bold condensed face. The choices were the usual? Helvetica Bold Condensed, Univers Bold Condensed or Alternate Gothic #2... all rather dated. I was looking for a really unique, clean, uncluttered sans serif face, so I decided to design one. I have since adapted it to many logo designs. So, in my terms and conditions, I decided to permit the modification of the letter forms for logos and monograms, but logos and monograms only, not the typeface in normal usage.
