I grew up spending almost every family vacation as a road trip across the southwestern US. In these adventures, I fell in love with learning about the nature around us; deserts, mountains, plains, piñon trees, rainbow trout, black bears, eagles, and more. I fell into freezing cold white water rapids, explored long-abandoned cliff dwellings, camped under the Milky Way, saw old cave markings, stone markings, preserved art, and read many a many old map legends. For decades, the soft glow of a neon sign beckoned weary travelers to roadside rest courts, told the hungry individual where to eat; let enthusiastic revelers know where the night life was happening. There is something special about a neon sign, yet changing times, city ordinances and even technology itself is turning this staple of urban life for over a hundred years into a museum piece. P22 ST.G Shrift is a font series based on the type designs of Stefan George with an italic version designed by Colin Kahn. Stefan George (1868-1933) was a German poet who led the revolt against realism in German literature. All of his works were privately published and the typefaces that were used reflected his neo-classic and anti-industrial (progessive) aesthetics; oftentimes consisting of his own hand lettering designs. The original font was cast in 1907 by a small foundry in Germany and was used primarily for the works of George as well as other books including a monumental edition of Dante's Divine Comedy. The ST.G Shrift Fonts contained in this set are derived from 3 known variations of the original roman typeface, St.G., found in various books published in Berlin in the early 20th century. ST.G Shrift One contains the most idiosyncratic characters, while ST.G Shrift Two uses more familiar characters as well as a redesign of characters including the t and the k to be more in keeping with modern san-serif designs. The OpenType version of the roman contains both one and two and expands on them by including central European characters, small caps, and small caps titling figures. The Small Caps titling figures are derived from the first version of the typeface. Tourist Spot JNL is the same lettering style as Old Tijuana JNL, but with the squiggly inside lines stripped away. The original design was modeled from the hand lettered title on the cover of the 1939 sheet music for "Class Will Tell" and is available in both regular and oblique versions. Casual and playful in nature, the font can be used by itself or combined with Old Tijuana JNL for any project that promotes festive occasions.

I was cleaning out my pencil box and found an old marker pen. I wanted to throw it away, because it was leaking all over my stuff, but decided I could use it one more time. The result is Full Blast font: a ‘brush’ font (made with that leaking old marker pen). Use if for your fireworks packaging, fiery pepper sauce bottles and whoopee cushions (and just about anything else as well). Comes with an explosive amount of diacritics.

Pesaro is a new text typeface with a strikingly robust but charming appearance. Unger redesigned the font based on artwork from old font books, and extended the character set to cover not only standard Western but also the Central European character set. It has been a tremendous amount of meticulous work to digitize and edit all the flashes!

Avenue is an eleven font family with five synthesist serif faces, five humanist sans serif faces, and one old style face. It is designed as an extrememly versatile body copy set. There are many special dingbats for bullets, and so on. It has oldstyle numbers and the small caps versions have lining numbers and small caps numbers.

Fleurons Initials is a set of elegantly decorated blocked initials, reminiscent of old Jazz and Circus Posters. MVB Bossa Nova is based on unattributed hand-lettering found in an old book, circa 1946. Yet unlike many scripts based on a vintage source, it feels fresh and dynamic. While working on a font based on Spencerian Script (a popular late 19th century handwriting style) we did some experimenting with original designs which created the general feel of Spencerian and brought to mind the spidery handwriting of old ladies and Dickensian clerks.
