An image spotted on the internet of a brass shipping stencil for the Royal Quality Brand (for the John H. Fitch Company of Youngstown, Ohio – a coffee and spice merchant). The lettering style for “Royal Quality” was a hand-cut, condensed, slightly flared sans serif with various character flourishes, giving the letters a stylish, somewhat regal look. TwentyFourNinetyOne [2491] is a reinterpretation of the alphabet of 1919 by Theo van Doesburg; the original a true rendering of the thinking of the Dutch-based art movement “de Stijl.” Jump forward to 1980 and prop lettering used on the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century television series; a vernacular typeface that was a utilitarian mix of geometry and pixel-based forms, used to symbolize the futuristic universe of 2491. At times it would appear on spaceships, laser guns, signage at space ports or in one episode, a Spandex tapestry. It only seemed logical to combine and rethink the letterforms, add ligatures + other extras, and see what the results would be. DecorateTheTree is a festive novelty font family containing two styles designed to be used in layers. Each style has letters on Christmas-tree lights. The regular style has clear bulbs and the bold style has filled bulbs. Some characters are on standing bulbs and others on hanging bulbs and these two sets are made to alternate with the OpenType contextual alternatives (calt) feature. To use only one set of bulbs, this feature must be turned off and character spacing adjusted, though why anyone would want to use only one set is a mystery. These fonts are monospaced. Contrast of strokes is extremely high. This creates sharpness, stiffness in the midst of elegance of Sungti. Even distribution of space, careful positioning, size and proportion of radicals create a slightly expanded, opened and balanced construction. Zhonggong are slightly expanded, its relatively less inter-character spacing makes the line of text better coupled and aligned. Its features and construction create a feel of wholesome, elegance with contrasting sharpness and stiffness. It is best suited for casual, creative display eye-catching text, set upright (non-slanted), non-condensed.

Ultra Condensed is a three-font family with a full character set. Ultra Condensed is a remastering of Tall Skinny Condensed from 1999 which continues to be a favorite. While similar, the fonts are not interchangeable. Shapes of some letters have changed, kerning and spacing are different. Tall Skinny Condensed does not have a full character set. Ultra Condensed Lettered is a hand lettered version of the hard edged Ultra Condensed. Ultra Condensed Line also hand lettered, is a thinner version of Ultra Condensed Lettered. These three fonts work well together or with a non condensed font, great for headlines at a large size. Works well for lots of copy in a small space.

In Vasetters the letters are cut from the shape of a tessellating vase. To get the tessellating effect, the two sets of letters (and numbers and some symbols) must alternate, and this is done automatically in applications that support the OpenType feature of Contextual Alternatives (calt). Vasetters is monospaced and comes in two weights. The regular weight is tightly spaced, which should not be a problem at large point sizes. At small point sizes adjacent letters can be colored differently or the character spacing can be increased. The lighter weight can be used alone or layered above the regular weight to create the effect of hollow lettering. Vasetters is is fun, bizarre, weird, and obviously a decorative display font.

This script font was inspired from a lot of manuscripts, notes and drafts, written by the famous American poet Walt Whitman. It is a very elegant type, in spite of a few curious ligatures, often concerning the r or z small letters. Notice the very characteristic “th”. It is used as variously as web-site titles, posters and fliers design or greeting cards, all various sorts of presentations, menus, certificates, letters. This font, in spite of its small size, supports very strong enlargements as well as small sizes ( the original size was about 36 to 48 pts ). When printed, it remains perfectly legible and elegant from 9/11 pts even if using an ordinary inkjet printer.

This African font is modern and fluid. Its name means "water" in the Zulu language, and like the deep rivers that flow through the African jungles, it contains few straight lines. Use it when you want to convey a feeling of strength combined with flexibility. Use it for headings, posters and adverts when you want to create an impact. This African font includes a full character set: - all the upper and lower case letters, as well as all numerals, punctuation and special characters. The numerals are mono-spaced so that they will line up correctly in columns of figures. The letters of the alphabet are spaced according to their width and are carefully kerned to create an attractive appearance.

This is the tallest, skinniest, most condensed, non serif font I know of. I designed this because I felt a serious need for that one big, thin word to fit in a narrow space. It is great for ‘SALE!’ in a one column ad. Also is a life saver for several long words in a narrow space like Merry Christmas... If you need a full character set take a look at the new Ultra Condensed 3 font family. Ultra Condensed was based on Tall Skinny Condensed with some changes and a full character set.
