Home Style is a revival of a very old font previously thought to have been designed by Joseph Gillé in or around the year 1820, however recent evidence from France suggests that an artist by the name of Silvestre from the same time period may be the true designer of this font. You may have seen this font in the past under the names of Circus, Roma, Madame and Gillé Classic. Originally designed in France, this very decorative font was only available in uppercase including numbers. Today this font has been re-mastered and updated with the addition of a newly designed lowercase set of letters. Home Style with its diagonal or cast shadow lines breaks away from the original design which has squared off shadows. Our Bazaruto family was inspired by an old fashioned specimen from “Letters and Lettering” by Carlyle & Oring, but you'll find the inspiration has been greatly expounded upon. What began as an all Capitals specimen has been fleshed out to an extended full character set with many features and variants from the original design. Bazaruto has been an exercise in typographic evolution. The original Art Deco style spawned an Engraved version, then a Bodoni-esque text style, and then a monoline version of that text style (both of the latter complete with Obliques). But after that is when the real interpretations of form began with the development of the Iron fonts, playing off the original specimen having a visual flavor of wrought ironwork in them, and blending that into the Bodoni-esque typestyles. Lastly, a fast and loose hand drawn version of the Iron fonts and an ornaments font were created to add more variety and spunk to the family. The Bazaruto family is a visual grab bag of styles which all have an underlying harmony.

Bodoni Sans is a new classic built on the foundation of two centuries of history. Fresh and contemporary, while feeling familiar. Stylish and sophisticated, confident and elegant. Bodoni Sans is more than just chopping off the serifs. The classical proportions of the capitals and x-heights were maintained, but the letterforms were rebalanced for use without serifs. Contemporary modifications were made to some widths, as well as an all new Light weight was created. High contrast is the key feature of Bodoni Sans. To maintain this contrast over a wide range of sizes, three optical sizes were drawn: Standard, Display and Text. Contrast adjustments were made for each optical size for optimal performance. The Standard was designed for the mid range of 12 to 60pt, Display for 48pt and above, and Text for 6 to 12pt. Web/Digital use was also considered while developing Bodoni Sans. The fonts were tested as web formats, and examined on a variety of screens, to ensure seamless use in both print and digital applications.

After release of Wood Bonnet Antique No.7 some of my clients asked for a sans serif version. So I printed my second batch of old wood type. This year we attended the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy. In our days off, we went to Piazza Maggiore to see what the city had to offer and luckily for us we saw an incredible store sign saying CAMPORA. We took some pictures of the typed font and later back in the studio we discovered that it was Dynamo. Immediately our minds were blown away by its beauty and thus we decided to design a new font inspired by its sharp and geometric design adding new weights and OpenType features. In the process we realized that both Dynamo and one of our favorite fonts Avant Garde, share a similar structure, so we made a type mashup between these beauties, including the sharpness of Dynamo and the revolutionary ligatures of Avant Garde.

Millie is a stressed, geometric script who spends her days as industrial lettering and her nights paired with blackletter on the patches of motorcycle gangs. Millie was weighted by the conventions of broad nib calligraphy, inspired by the Milwaukee Tools logo, and finds herself best used in logos and titles. She was designed to be used on about a 20 degree angle, though she looks just fine on a level plane. By using opentype, many ligatures, and two sets of stylistic alternates, Millie was developed to look great with any string of letters. Access the first stylistic set for a disconnected script look, and the second set for even more connections and fluid script than standard. Millie Round takes the edge off a bit, giving the entire set a more approachable and versatile feel.

SALO – is a hybrid of two Italian typographic worlds. The serif version refers to the beautiful and sophisticated typefaces found on the signs of cafes, restaurants, and fashionable boutiques. Its complemented by the sans variant, inspired by Italian modernism and road signage. All styles are based on the same core but with a totally different expressions. The biggest challenge during the project was designing all of the glyphs compatible to work as a 100% variable font. In the OTF version, SALO has 4 varieties: Serif, Semi Serif, Semi Sans and Sans. Grange Text is optimised for smaller text sizes, having more open character shapes and spacing. Use the non-text version of Grange for larger sizes and headlines, which has tighter spacing and detailing. Grange is the Device interpretation of the classic “Grot” thick/thin sans style. Unlike the traditional models on which it is based, Grange takes a rational, consistent approach across wide range of weights and widths for contemporary use. The upper-case letters of Lentzers fit into the shape of a convex lens and the lower-case letters fit into the shape of a concave lens. The typeface was designed to have concave shapes alternate with convex shapes so the letters snuggle together. The OpenType contextual alternatives (calt) feature will automatically make this happen if your word processor supports it. (To get only concave or convex shapes, one must turn off the contextual alternatives feature. With only concave shapes the spaces between letters form thin convex lenses and with only convex shapes the spaces between letters form thin concave lenses. The name of the family was inspired by these lens shapes and also by the name of distant ancestors.) Lentzers is caps only. It comes in three weights: light, regular, and bold. She did not live to experience her breakthrough as a poet, but today she is considered one of the pioneers of literary modernity – the American lyricist Emily Dickinson (1830–1886). She left behind a life’s work of manuscripts on scraps of paper, note pads and letters – and a last wish, that these were to be burned. Emily’s younger sister Lavinia did not fulfill her wish – and thus preserved the ingenious manuscript-objects for posterity. For Julia Sysmäläinen, designer of the award winning Kafka type family FF Mister K, Dickinson’s manuscripts were an inspiration and a source for creating her new typeface “Emily In White”. Emily In White – named after Emily Dickinson’s preference for white clothes – captures the most filigree letterforms of the poet’s multifaceted writing style. With hundreds of alternates and ligatures and a complex OpenType feature code it manages to revive the lively sequence of single and connected glyphs of a delicate handwriting which has been described as “breezing” and “reminding of bird tracks”. Barberry is a hand-made brush script typeface equipped with some decorative OTF features, made by Zakhar Yaschin (FontaZY). Barberry font contains stylistic alternates, initial and final alternates (which is duplicated by contextual alternates in the case when ini & fina are not supported), ligatures, titling alternates, small caps and large collection of swashes (additional variants - in Stylistic Set). The Barberry font is essential for hand-made lettering and design. The Barberry family also includes Barberry Vigniette font with over 200 icons and vigniettes in it. Barberry Letters supports most of Western languages (including Central Europian, Baltic and Eastern European languages) and also Cyrillic. Each lowercase letter has three positional versions of the design – basic (if the letter is in the middle of a word), initial (if the word starts with it) and the final (in the end of the word) that makes the set look more alive and expressive. I'll admit right off the bat here -- I've never been to a party in a barn. I don't even know if they still do barn dances and parties, or if that's something out of the musical Oklahoma! or something. But this font gave me kind of a homey, rustic feel, so the name felt right! Like many of my fonts, this one has been refined with crafters in mind -- smoothed curves and reduced nodes, for easy cutting and printing. It's also packed with over 600 characters total! The usual alphabet, numbers, and punctuation, plus 30 double-letter ligatures, over 300 diacritics, and a full second alphabet coded in as Stylistic Alternates. Enjoy!

Tangential is a distinctive modern sans in 3 weights which was born out of a simple idea: Beginning the project with a perfect circle to form the letter ‘o’, then squaring off one corner, ending up with a letterform I hadn't seen before for that character; this for me was enough motivation to attempt a full alphabet incorporating the angled styling wherever possible. The Tangential style I envisaged for the family is complemented by the prominent use of negative space throughout, most apparent on the drop shaped ‘o’ which is a key feature of the typeface and a letterform I'm particularly pleased with. The core Tangential design is also accompanied by two further variations, Rounded & SemiSerif.

Imperija Roman is a display typeface inspired by stone engraved lettering. Supporting west, central and east European languages it contains over one-hundred discretionary ligatures and a stylistic set for old style diacritics. The original letters were drawn from a memorial engraving in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Further development and several iterations later, Imperija Roman has a flowing organic feel while staying true to the rigid constraints of stone-cut letters. The alternative diacritics in stylistic set one were included to give the user more options for a historical feel to the lettering. The discretionary ligatures also offer a huge range of variation and were drawn based off of historical Roman sources and common frequency digraphs in major European languages.

When I created Face Your Fears some years ago, it was an instant hit. I have seen it on Gangsta Rap albums, metal albums, books and on movie posters. It has been used for T-shirts, websites and, believe it or not, for a beer label as well. I have always toyed with the idea of redoing the original font, as some of the glyphs were a bit off. Face Your Fears II is similar in nature to the original font, but comes with a lot of improvements, has slightly altered glyphs and (probably) better kerning. But maybe, just maybe, it isn't your cup o' tea. In that case, you can always just go for the original!

Toiban is a classy modern sans serif font. Each Toiban glyph has been modernly drawn and designed for this expansive new edition, which maintains the Swiss mantra of clarity, simplicity and neutrality for the demands of contemporary design and branding. The larger View version is drawn to show off Toiban's subtlety and is spaced with the headline in mind, while the Text size focuses on readability, using strong strokes and comfortable loose spaces. The Toiban struggles to be legible at a small size because of its compactness and closed aperture. The Toiban Micro's design is simplified and exaggerated to maintain impression in small, loosely spaced type, providing excellent legibility at microscopic sizes and in low-resolution environments.

Bunyan Pro is the synthesis of Bunyan, the last face Eric Gill designed for hand setting in 1934 and Pilgrim, the machine face based on it, issued by British Linotype in the early 1950s — the most popular Gill text face in Britain from its release until well into the 1980s. Gill’s last face doesn't date itself anywhere near as obviously as Gill’s other serif faces, which were all really products of their time, heavily influenced by the richly ornamental and constantly changing aesthetic trends of the interwar period. When compared to Gill’s previous work, Bunyan seems like a revolution in the way he thought and drew. It’s as if he was shrugging off all heavy burden of what was popular, and going back to the basics of older standards. Bunyan had no bells and whistles, doesn't risk functionality with contrasts that are too high or too low, and didn't venture far outside the comfortable oldstyle rhythm Gill grew up with. By interbellum standards, this was utter austerity, a veritable denial of deco excess. Surprisingly, even without all the cloying trivialities, Bunyan still stood indisputably as an aesthetically pleasing, space saving design that could have been made only by Eric Gill. Bunyan Pro comes in three weights and their italics. The main font is intended for use between 8 and 14 points. The medium and the bold are great for emphasis but also have good merit in larger sizes, so can make effective display types as well. All six fonts include small caps, ligatures, alternates, six sets of figures, and three original Gill manicules. We tried to keep the best features of the handset (Bunyan) and machine (Pilgrim) versions while building a text face that can function in today’s immersive reading media. Deciding on which useful letterpress features to preserve for aesthetic importance was hell on our eyeballs — which lead to complex and painstaking ways of ironing out irregularities and inconsistencies related to metal technologies, in order to provide something with authenticity. The result is a unique typeface based on a Gill design that, to a much greater extent than any of his other faces, works well as a text face that can be used for entire books and magazines. Upon numerous demands of highly esteemed users of our fonts I decided to supplement the Walbaum type family by display and poster cuts. Because I obviously cannot compete with world’s renowned type foundries which already offer a number of renderings of forenamed typeface, I thought proper to decline a bit from the original Walbaum’s design, strictly speaking, from the apprehension we commonly keep about this typeface. Therefore I didn’t set forth the way of modernizing (shame!), but rather the opposite direction: towards an analysis of the original neo-classical intention. I took the 10-point character, magnified it enormously and cut off progressively all the optically thickened bobbles which raised by small-size correction. I ended up at the size of about 120 points, where it became obvious that any further thinning would lead to an undesired manneristic fragility. Resulting 8-member family Walbaum 120 is naturally usable in variety of sizes, as well as cuts marked “10” you can use, say, from 6 to 30 points. I only hope that mister Justus Erich won’t pull me by the ear when we’ll meet on the other side...

Artist and calligrapher Daniel Reeve, well known for the lettering and maps in The Lord of the Rings films, is creating hand-crafted fonts of some of his writing styles - Kereru is the inaugural release, allowing users to emulate some of his much-admired calligraphy. Nominally a half-uncial style, clever arrangements of the stylistic sets allow Kereru to be set as full uncial or standard roman, as well as offering numerous alternates, ligatures, swashes and flourishes, ornaments, unlimited fractions, scientific inferiors and numeric superscript, all accessible via OpenType features. Cyrillic and Greek alphabets are included, in addition to the letters required for all the languages of Western, Central and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and the Baltic. Kereru is very legible and easy on the eye, without sacrificing calligraphic flair. A pdf description of the Stylistic Sets and their usage is included with the font package, which comprises regular, bold and italic variations. Kereru Italic supercedes and improves upon its previous incarnation, Shire Regular. The name Kereru comes from New Zealand's Maori language - it is our native wood pigeon, a bird of generous and rounded form, like the font itself.

Price Didone is a font with a singular purpose: The setting of elegant, stylish price tags. As such it is non-alphabetic, featuring instead numerals, a large array of currency symbols, and a smattering of typographic niceties such as quotes, brackets, pilcrow, daggers and a very curvaceous ampersand. Certain currency symbols that are not independent glyphs (Q, Ft, kr etc.) are included as their constituent letters, some of which also have automatic ligatures for that little something extra. There are currency symbols included which have not (yet) been accepted to unicode, such as the Russian Ruble and Bitcoin symbols. For ease of access, these can be typed using the standard ligatures feature. See features below for the full list. Features: Automatic Fractions - with fractions feature engaged, arbitrary fractions are a doddle. Stylistic Sets: SS01 - an alternate look for 4 SS02 - a double stroked dollar symbol SS03- the # sign becomes a stylish numero Stylistic Alternates - for software that doesn't support stylistic sets, the above three features are grouped into the one SALT feature. Standard Ligatures - certain typed combinations automatically change to different glyphs: B|| = Bitcoin symbol P- = Russian Ruble RM = Malaysian Rimgit symbol Rp = Indonesian Rupiah Rs = Rupees Ft = Hungarian Forint kr = Kroner symbol % off;%off;%ff = Special percent off ligature Discretionary Ligatures - this feature sets decimal prices like $5.95 with the numerals after the period smaller and raised from the baseline, underlined by a nice swoosh. It also shrinks the dollar, sterling, and Euro symbols for a more authentic look. While intended for one sole purpose, Price Didone could nevertheless be quite versatile. Quote marks and typographic symbols can be used for decoration. Everybody loves a nice ampersand and this is one I'm really proud of. Or you might just want some pretty numbers for your house, or sports jersey, or just to stand out a little from the rest of your text. Whatever use you may have in mind, go for it. And do let me know if your currency symbol isn't included, and I'll quickly add it to the glyph set in future versions.

The “XXII Totenkult” is inspired by the classical letterforms of old roman/renaissance typefaces and an ode to the decay. This is an allCapitals-font and the lowercase glyphs contain a variation of the uppercase. TT Ricordi Allegria was drawn by Antonina Zhulkova and reflects in its graphics the transitional stage between the classic serif with varying proportions, gravitating towards the Roman capital type, and the Florentine sans serif. The font is characterized by variability in the proportions of characters, contrast between strokes, wedge-shaped triangular characters, and the absence of traditional serifs. The main visual feature of the typeface is its diversity and the ability, using different stylistic sets, to completely change the character and perception of the typeface. The drawing of the characters from the main set is strict, thanks to which the font looks stern, as if the inscription in the font was really carved out of stone. And with the help of another set, we can add roundness, or even smoothness, to the font. This is due to the fact that the letters (E R K Q J Y in Latin, and Л К Ж Э in Cyrillic) from the second set have either very noticeable "curls" or smooth, rounded "legs". In addition, the typeface includes a set of beautiful ligatures for use in display inscriptions, such as large headlines. An interesting moment when working on the typeface was the creation of the Cyrillic typeset, since the Cyrillic alphabet does not so easily fit into the concept of the Florentine grotesque and stressed semi-serif. The most difficult thing in working on the Cyrillic alphabet was to create a system of spacing for characters, as it was done in the Latin alphabet, and to make sure that when typing in Cyrillic, the drawing of the text remained beautiful. That is why the letters Д Л У Ы appearing in the font family are somewhat unusual to the eye, and the proportions of other characters in Cyrillic are not quite “classic” either. In general, the Cyrillic set looks more display than its Latin prototype, but at the same time it lacks the sense of historicity or legacy of the Soviet past, which often comes to the foreground when working on the design of the Cyrillic alphabet in this type of serifs. TT Ricordi Allegria consists of two weights (Regular and Bold) and one variable font. Each style includes over 750 characters, as well as 19 OpenType features. Interesting features of the typeface include three stylistic sets that greatly change the perception of the font, a set of bright display ligatures, a few neat icons that are suitable for breaking text and will emphasize the visual language of the font.
