Phenix American was designed by M.F. Benton in 1935. The Phenix American font is a headline design with condensed sans serif characters that look good on corporate stationery and packaging as well as on magazine and brochure covers.

A FEW THOUGHTS Indie is a trendy script, result of the wide range of possibilities that can be achieved using a pointed brush. (1) “You Only Live Once” say The Strokes, (to me, symbols of indie music) so, what would represent that sensation of volatility better than a brush? As you may already know, this time inspiration came from hipsters and indies around us: We may sometimes criticise them, we may sometimes want to be like them, but the truth is that the universo gráfico they generated these past years is gigantic, full of colour and variations. (2) Brush lettering and Sign painting are fields I've been fond of since I started as a designer. Nowadays, these styles are getting a lot of attention and maybe it’s due to the undeniable mark of life that is materialised when using a brush. This tool is so expressive that shows the passions and fears of the artist, and materialises that idea of “living the present”, so popular in this era. When you see Indie, you think of skaters, rollers, surfers, hiphop dancers, street artists, summer, and why not? California beaches. So if you feel life is only one, it’s high time you got Indie into your fonts' collection! STYLES Indie comes in 4 styles plus another one which consists only in capitals. Indie; Indie Shade; Indie Shade Solo; Indie Inline are all open-type programmed and have exactly the same glyphs and metrics, so you can combine them without probem. (I.E. You may use Indie Inline, then write the same word using Indie Shade Solo, and finally put them together). In applications such as Adobe Illustrator, the font has nice results when fi ligatures is activated. However, if you want a more casual look, activate the contextual and the decorative ligatures. NOTES 1. After several years of practicing calligraphy I can say that to me, there’s nothing more satisfying than being able to create fonts out of your own handlettering. I owe a lot of this brush-style to Carl Rohrs. He was the very first calligrapher who taught it to me. His style is unique and what he can do with a brush is truly marvelous. I'm serious. 2. In spite of some particular cases, I can say I'm happy to live in a present in which Typography is living a kind of Renaissance along with Lettering. Like it happened with W. Morris a hundred years ago, handcrafts are being revalued/reborn, and some of this may be happening thanks to these indie designers that, trying to be unique, gave new/fresh air to different areas of graphic design.

Pullman is based on turn-of-the-century lettering reminiscent of the signage on some luxury Pullman-style train cars of that period. It is a heavy script font with a lot of character and an authoritative, elegant look.

Wooden font block. Taken from the typesetting department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. All the letters were printed on paper, scanned and polished on the computer. It’s very detailed font, which are suitable for large prints.

Fonts without curved lines were quite popular in Victorian times. We drew this one back in the days of T-squares and triangles, and based it on a type that we felt could stand to be improved. (Arrogant, eh?)

Vitrina is a script based on letterforms painted on a window for a restaurant called "Latin American Cafeteria". Its quirky script forms are meant to evoke a sense of hand painted signage. Vitrina means "store front window" in Spanish.

Quatrain is a hand-drawn, all caps typeface based on Bodoni. It is a little rough, a little uneven, but lively and elegant as well. Quatrain looks good on packaging, or in headlines. Comes with an abundance of diacritics.

A set of symbols was designed for ParaType in 2002 by Dmitry Kirsanov as a part of PT Mas d`Azil™ family. Based on the images on stones discovered in a prehistoric cave of Mas-d`Azil, France.

Aldo Novarese, the famous Italian type designer (ITC Novarese, Eurostile, and many others), designed Nadianne. The elegant, readable Agfa Nadianne looks as good on an invitation as it does on a business letter. Featured in: Best Fonts for Tattoos

The two Kwodsity fonts are derived from Kwersity, a narrow, blocky typeface with slab serifs and a high x-height. In Kwodsity Up the bottom edges and bottom serifs have been thickened, while in Kwodsity Down the top edges and serifs have been thickened.

A condensed type design with Art Deco influences was used for titles within the February, 1938 issue of Modern Screen Magazine. The digital version is named for the famous “Tinsel Town” street intersection. Hollywood and Vine JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

DF Korolev is a 72 weight geometric sans serif family based on lettering by an anonymous Soviet graphic designer from the propaganda displays at the Communist Red Square parade in 1937. It has been named in honor of Sergey Pavlovich Korolyov, or Korolev, considered by many to be the father of practical astronomics. Rational and robust, it is also elegant and refined. Tracings done in Illustrator over a photograph featuring this type pinned down some of the basic character shapes. These were then imported into FontLab, where the full glyph complement was developed. The lower-case has been designed from scratch, and adheres to the structural logic of the uppercase as closely as possible. The complete Korolev super-family includes standard, italic, condensed, and compressed versions, each in five weights. The Alternate families come with a double-story “a”. Baro is a powerful, fun and expressive font, great for loud, cheerful and super-fat headlines and packaging for odd novelty toys. With its bold and distinctive stylized geometric forms, it is ideal for logos, heavy machinery and wacky party invites. Baro had its beginning in a handful of rigidly geometric uppercase letters from an unidentified 1960�s or 70�s era press-down lettering font, which in turn was possibly a revival of a 20�s era Art Deco font. The exercise quickly expanded into a complete typeface with 300+ characters, including several catch words (word glyphs), stylistic alternates, discretionary ligatures, multilingual support and both lining and old style numerals. Steiner Special is a revival and expansion of an art nouveau face called Swing, originally designed by Peter Steiner in 1974. Some of the original film type letters were slightly normalized and toned down for concept consistency, though this digital version lacks none of the original face's charm and sunny disposition. This particular kind of art nouveau face is one that appeals very much to kids. Steiner Special can be used in upper-lower or all-upper, and can maintain its enthusiasm and excitement through any bending, stretching, squeezing, warping or any thinkable filter your favourite design program has. Children book covers, candy and cereal packaging, fun headlines and posters for kid events are but few of the possible uses of this font. Diverda Sans is a geometric family of typefaces that are all free from ornament. Swiss designer Daniel Lanz optimized Diverda Sans for maximum legibility. In contrast to many other modern typefaces, which try to squeeze the traditional rounder forms of the alphabet into square designs, and which often attempt to equalize the widths of the capital letters, Diverda Sans remains true to the proper proportions of the Roman alphabet. The x-heights of Diverda's characters are low, and the differences between curved, square, and triangular elements are very clear. Like the more calligraphic typefaces of the past, Diverda's strokes exhibit contrast that is inspired by movements of the pen on paper; down strokes are heavier than up strokes. Possible applications for the Diverda Sans include magazine design, as well as advertising for fashion, design, or architectural products. Because of its 10 different individual styles or weights, Diverda Sans is also a good fit for Corporate Identity solutions.

Here's what I said about the original Ginza: Sometimes you get an idea stuck in your head and the only way to get rid of that demon is to put something down on paper. A year later the doodles became a skeleton, and then the skeleton had a body, then the body had a name, then the name got a personality. What was left was a clean set of fonts that encompass a very simple skeleton with a lot of visual appeal. And now with Ginza Narrow: Once Ginza was released, I immediately wanted to commit the time to create a narrower version—if for nothing else but to add additional versatility to the skeleton, but my schedule just would not allow it until a client recently asked me to. There was no need to ask twice as I had already started and then shelved the initial builds. I also had the opportunity to expand the localization of the fonts by adding Cyrillic.
