An early 1960s hand-lettered trade publication ad for an upcoming single 45 rpm release inspired the type design of Miss Rhythm JNL. The nickname of "Miss Rhythm" was given to Ruth Brown because of her popular "jump tunes"; that is rhythm and blues with an uptempo beat. Because the trade ad for her record was the inspiration for the font, it was only fitting to use that nickname as the font's name in honor of her.

Patsy is a quirky sans-serif font inspired by the titling sequence from the 1964 film, "The Patsy", starring Jerry Lewis. Heavyweight, yet fun and full of personality, it was a lettering styles that was so much fun to flesh out and make into a typeface. I've opened up the letter spacing lightly from the original film poster design for better readability at a range of sizes. With an alternating all-caps character set, and offbeat letter weighting, Patsy is fun to typeset with as the font auto-switches between Capitals and Lowercase (alternate capitals) no matter if you type all caps or all lowercase.

I love going to flea markets and second-hand stores; in fact a lot of the furniture in our home is second hand (or pre-loved, a euphemism I find rather peculiar). I personally believe that buying used products is a good way to help this planet, as no new stuff needs to be made and the old stuff gets a second life. Fleabitten is a ‘western style’ serif font. Bodoni Classic Deco is against all rules. Giambattista Bodoni himself would probably hate me for doing it; he was a real purist. The whole idea of the Bodoni typeface is no embellishments and here I go and decorate those nice clear letters. Shame on me! But I find this is a very nice and useful typeface for all kinds of cards and certificates. So I just did it for all of you out there that are not born purists, but want a little embellishment to their lives. And to make things worse, I added a Small Caps cut. I even decorated it. Enjoy! Stuffed Shirt JNL acquires its name from a term popularized during the years when the Art Deco period flourished. The Great Depression further widened the gap between the 'haves' and the 'have nots'. Occasionally, some of those that 'had' (and some who pretended they did) came off as standoffish, egotistical and pompously arrogant. Such individuals were referred to as a "stuffed shirt"; a blowhard who thought he was better than others. In this case, Stuffed Shirt JNL is no more than a dual-line adaptation of Playwright JNL, itself an interpretation of the classic Broadway type design in a way that emulates the hand lettering of old-time sign painters.

Whereas blackletter types were hand written, Text letterforms are drawn using a series of graphic shapes that slot together in a series of permutations, one set for lower case and another for the upper case. As the link between the method of construction of the letterforms has been removed from the appearance (the quill pen with which they were written resulting in the angle and sharp stresses) there is no logic for these stylistic elements to work in any set way. As this fundamental rule of the blackletter style has been removed the typeface has become something other than a typical or derivative blackletter font.

Slurm is a hand-drawn fun font that is ideal for use in headlines, descriptions and logotypes used in product design and similar applications. In the early days of printing everything had to be worked out from scratch. This set of lettering is based on section headings used by the Printer Lucas Brandis (no known relation), the first printer to operate in the city of Lübeck around 1473. They remind me of a medieval version of the spray paint graffiti so often seen on the sides of trains. A bit on the crude side, but also and importantly extremely noticeable.
