The inspiration source for Bindi Monogram is a 1915 publication by Cartier-Bresson of Paris containing classic and modern monogram patterns for embroidery. Sistina, designed by Hermann Zapf in 1950 was first named Aurelia Titling. It is a heavy supplement to the Michelangelo Titling based on studies of inscriptions in Rome. First release in hotmetal at D. Stempel AG, Frankfurt in 1951. Sistina was originally an all caps font. The digital version from Linotype contains small caps. Hermann Zapf together with Akira Kobayashi, type director from Linotype had made a new revised version of Sistina now named as Palatino Imperial" in the Palatino nova type family, a Platinum Collection product from Linotype."

Francis is a design previously offered by the Lanston Type Co. in the early 1990s. It is a revival of a 1955 Günther Gerhard Lange design, but with a heavier overall weight. Coming out of retirement, it has been fully reworked and refined with elegant curves and an expanded character set. This font works well at small sizes and larger display sizes for everything from wine labels to personal stationery. This type evokes the elegant sophistcation of the Jazz age and pairs well with a Martini and a fine selection of charcuterie.

An interesting hand lettered example of Art Deco lettering (minus the letter ‘L’) was spotted on Pinterest and served as the inspiration for Deco Sketch JNL. Because there was no attribution as to the age or source of the alphabet, it can only be surmised that it was a scan from a 1930s or 1940s source. The original showed many of the irregularities of pen lettering, and had rounded terminals. The digital version has been redrawn more uniformly with flat terminals. Deco Sketch JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Sleeve Notes: A font from the analogue age. Inspired by album covers and hand-written song lyrics. Sleeve Notes is an experimental script font and all-caps pair with a loose hand-written style that explores the golden-age of record stores, vinyl albums, cassettes and CDs. It imagines our teenage selves kicking back with a coke (oversized headphones on) discovering a new band and studying the notes on their latest album. Besides production credits, the best sleeves (otherwise known as liner notes) included photos, cool artwork and hand-written song lyrics that gave the listener a human connection to the mind of the artist. This font embraces it's subtle ink blotches and rough edges; all imperfections that build to create a sense of a hastily written lyric, set-list or just a fun little scribble. Afronaut PRO (New version of typeface published in 2019) was inspired by vernacular Latin & Arabic typography in St. Louis (on Senegal-Mauretania Border, Africa). Geometric forms working well and contrasting with smooth, round elements. After reading "Afronautics – from Zambia to the Moon" by Bartek Sabela (about Zambian conquest of space) a breif was set to create typeface that looks like mix between: vernacular Arabic script, futuristic typography and some special lettering that I found in Africa during my travels to Guinée, Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania and West Sahara.
