In instances where the oval was not enough, a series of simple additional arced or straight cuts were made. What resulted is a unique and original font with a lot of personality. Carolina is a part of the 1990 program Type before Gutenberg, which included the work of twelve contemporary font designers and represented styles from across the ages. Linotype offers a package including all these fonts on its web page, www.fonts.de. Gottfried Pott designed his Carolina in the tradition of the Carolingian Minuskel. The rhythmic flow of the font gives text a light and elegant feel.

Stempel Elan is Frank Griesshammer's revival of Elan, a script typeface released by D. Stempel AG in 1937. That Elan was originally created by Hans Möhring. The first digital release of the design, Stempel Elan includes a number of OpenType features, including alternate versions of certain glyphs, etc.

An entry in the Palmer and Rey 1884 specimen book named, somewhat prosaically, Geometric Gothic provided the inspiration for this rectilinear romp through the alphabet. As apt as it is for a period piece of its time, it's also oddly and equally comfortable in a retro space-age environment.
