I have no particular interest in Nålebinding (nor in knitting), but I needed a name with ‘stitch’ in it and this is what I found! Muffin is a soft and rounded humanistic low-contrast sans serif based on broad nib writing. It comes in five weights ranging from Regular to Black. A set of vintage dies for stamping text into marble headstones or other monuments manufactured by The Vermont Marble Company was the basis for Marble Cutter JNL. The Vermont Marble Company was in business from the 1880s until 1976, when the company was acquired by OMYA, Inc. The original company (also known as Vermarco) supplied marble for everything from the Jefferson Memorial to the United Nations building and dozens of other historic structures in-between.

The Bermuda Family was designed by Garrett Boge and Paul Shaw, in the vein of freely-drawn showcard lettering — jaunty, fun and friendly. In fact the drawings were made with a Speedball™ B-series pen nib, the stock tool of the showcard letterer. Bermuda Open is a stroked outline version and its character shapes are repeated in the other three styles, each with a separate fill variant — Solid, Dots and Squiggles.

Modulair is a dot matrix based font with nice typographic features. Various figures, complete punctuation and small caps in three weights makes the Modulair a very usable font for subtile typographic solutions or headlines. Since autumn 2023, the Modular has been expanded with italics in three weights. The first sketches were made in 1979 on my father's Olivetti typewriter. I can’t remember when I had a true lazy morning.. I was a looong time ago, before I had children! Even now, when I’m down with the flu, I can’t stay in bed for too long - it really seems like a waste of time! Lazy Morning is a nice handwritten font. I made it with a Sharpie pen. Working on The Lab late one night, evil comic book genius Scott Christian Sava realized there was something missing from his graphic experiment! Pendulum is the much-anticipated digitization and swashy expansion of Americana, an amazing yet long overlooked treasure from the Nebiolo foundry, circa 1945. With heavy descenders and seemingly floating ascenders emanating from one of the most classical attempts at connected upright calligraphy, never did a font have this much charm and complexity at once. To complement the beauty of the original letters, Pendulum comes with two additional sets of swashed ending lowercase we call Swings. These Swings help Pendulum become a fantastic calligraphic plate making tool, as well as a great personalizing headline font. Plenty of alternates and extra custom endings are included for extra choice and variety. Melodi is the result of years of working with hand made types on my designs. Every time I draw the letters and words that I need for every design piece. One day I decided to go serious and make a real type of it and “Melodi” is the result of this work. It’s a calligraphic font, built using a regular stroke, and carefully crafted to have nice joins between all the letters. It has some playful but stylish capitals that brings lot of personality to the font. It work super nice either in lowercase writing as in all-caps texts. It looks specially good on lists of words or small sentences. Melodi is a playful but very versatile font, it can be used in lots of different scenarios. From creating a logo, writing the tittles of a catalogue or use it in a poster combined with other types (it work really well as counter point of more classical types) to motion graphics animations or advertising work. It can be cute but it also can do hard work!

«Envelove» is the brand new typographic challenge handwritten by Yani Arabena and designed along with Guille Vizzari and Ale Paul, for Sudtipos. It all started as a game for Yani. A carefree and spontaneous calligraphy, making use of the pointed nib with black ink, exploring its expressive possibilities pressing against paper. With time that nib turned into her dearest tool to flow through her writing, breeding this particular style of hers that let her trespass the barrier that kept personal and professional passions apart. All that inspiration is present in «Envelove», a play on words that reflects the love of letters. Rahere is a humanist sans with subtle features that give the typeface a distinctive, warm appearance without distracting the reader. For projects that need to convey a sense of authority or credibility, this is the ideal sans serif to use. The family consists of six weights ranging from light to extra bold with corresponding italics and the character set covers most of the major European languages. Each weight contains lining & non-aligning numerals in both proportional & tabular spacing. The tabular numerals share the same width across all weights and styles – a must for financial tables in annual reports. Spirited and lively, the italic lowercase is more cursive and calligraphic than the roman, although it harmonises perfectly, displaying enough character to create emphasis without looking out of place. When used on its own, for pull-out quotes or poetry, the italic exudes a charm that draws attention to the text. The typeface is named after Rahere, a 12th-century Anglo-Norman priest, who founded St Bartholomew's Hospital, London in 1123. I will always be indebted to Barts (as it is now commonly known) because in 2007 I was successfully treated for relapsed testicular cancer. Way back in 1992 I designed my first sans serif, Charlotte Sans, and although it was relatively successful, I was never really satisfied with the end result: not enough weights & italics, a small character set, lack of accented characters, and my design skills were still in their infancy. Whilst Rahere shares many common elements with Charlotte Sans, it is much more than just a reworking; it represents over 20 years of accumulated knowledge and experience as a designer.

Big News! Tenez has been selected for the Tipos Latinos Biennial 2016 and Typographica’s Favorite Typefaces of 2015! Tenez is a Grand Slam display didone typeface from Plau. But Tenez’s shapes are organic (these modern typefaces were originally cut by hand after all) – in fact that was the challenge we set from the start: to make a typeface as organic in construction as possible. This echoes some of late 19th century typefaces and advertising, yet we thought of it for contemporary uses. One of the several unique features of Tenez is its unusual Thin weight, in which the contrast between thin strokes and the black area left by the serifs makes for a typewriter-like personality. The italics provide a perfect counterpoint to the roman weights. Tenez was unapologetically conceived as a display typeface meant to be used large as in magazine openings, drop caps or everywhere there’s a need for elegant impact. The family includes support for almost all Latin languages available, figure sets for almost every conceivable occasion (tables, text, you name it), alternates for the quirky beautiful R (sometimes simpler is better, but not always!) and Q (with a nice big tail for that article opener). Tenez pairs really well with our no-frills sans-serif Motiva Sans and our cute vertical connected script Primot.

The 1920 song “Noah’s Wife Lived a Wonderful Life (‘Cause Noah Had to Stay Home)” is another example of one of those overly-worded song titles from early 20th Century composers. What’s more important for type enthusiasts is that the title was hand lettered with a round nib pen in a slightly ragged Art Nouveau style. Cleaning up the ragged design, the end result became Nouveau Showcard JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Keswick is a beautiful small town in the English Lake District. It is a good place to hang out for a while and explore the surrounding National Park. During your stay you could visit the Keswick Pencil Factory - which brings us to this nice font… Keswick font was created using a 6B pencil (the crumbly, soft kind) and a lot of patience. I have to admit, the pencil used was not made in Keswick. Sorry 'bout that…

I started this font on a Monday and I finished it the Monday after, so I guess the name is right! Another Monday started off as a bit of doodling (with a Sharpie pen) on a piece of paper. Before I knew it, I had a complete glyph set and it looked nice. Another Monday is a bit messy, uneven and maybe even a little weird, but it will look good on postcards, packaging and labels.

To snuggle is "settle or move into a warm, comfortable position" - that is exactly what I did with making this chunky seriffed font. Well, maybe not a position, but a comfortable mood! I tried to mix some gentle grafitti moves and comic letters, and then a touch of the classic goofy pizzadude style - and the result is this cheeky font called Snuggle Punk. Full of round corners and fat lines - sounds like a nice cup of coffee! :)
