Discórdia is a type-family of contrasting contrasts. Each of the four members of the family has a different contrast type. Regular has broad-nib contrast, Bold has horizontal contrast, the Italic is monoline, which means it has no apparent contrast, and Bold Italic is... Well, it’s probably best if see for yourself. These different design structures were fine-tuned to work well together in the same line, creating emphasis and hierarchy through a mini-super-family that groups a wedge-serif Regular, a slab-serif Bold, a sans-serif-ish Italic and a twisted Bold Italic. Arthur Baker's display script Sassafras, designed in 1995, is based on the natural inline effect created when writing with a split-metal nibbed pen. Black and white are nicely balanced, giving this calligraphic face a remarkably smooth appearance. The regular and italic versions of Sassafras include two alternate faces: one with long, tall ascenders and regular-length descenders, and one with shortened ascenders and descenders that allow it to fit where its companion might not. In both, the ascenders increase in width as they move upward, while the descenders taper to a fine point. This variety of form makes Sassafras a very flexible choice for display work.

(1722). Invitation Script is the third script superfamily published by Intellecta Design, after Penabico and Van den Velde Script. Invitation Script has original letters designed by Iza W. Creative direction and core programming were provided by Paulo W. Chyrllene K assisted with some work on unusual and archaic styles, resulting in a special font - Invitation Script Archaic (soon available). Invitation started out from Andrade’s script style and evolved into a voluptuous script font family. This font was inspired by one of a standard French manual styles in use from the beginning of 1900s to the end of World War II, when people were writing most often with pen holders and metal nibs. This typeface is easily legible as it was used for the lithographic printing of university textbooks. All lower cases from a to z and numerals from 0 to 9 are doubled by a slightly different one to allow a varying manual aspect in texts. Old Labels JNL was inspired by the red and white gummed labels that were used for shipping parcels long before self-adhesive materials and desktop publishing rendered the older labels obsolete. The fifty-two glyphs include a generous supply of phrases such as ‘Air Mail’, ‘Do Not Bend’, ‘Rush’, etc. along with a number of blank label backgrounds and decorative frames. The design for Aurelia is based on the forms of Jenson, an Old Style typeface developed by Nicolas Jenson in 1470 which still influences type design today. Zapf gave Aurelia a bit of his own personal style and adapted it to the demands of modern technology. The family of typefaces was originally designed for use with the typesetting machines produced by the German company Dr.-Ing Rudolf Hell GmbH which was later merged with Linotype. The name Aurelia is a nod to the Roman emperor Aurelianus (214–275), who built the Via Aurelia in Italy. Aurelia is a robust and classic font, suitable for both text and headlines.

Samuel Welo’s “Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers” contained dozens of hand-lettered alphabets used as inspiration for both the sign trade and for graphic designers. Intertitle Nouveau JNL – available in both regular and oblique versions – was originally an alphabet produced by a round lettering nib, and was first shown in the 1927 edition (later reprinted in the 1960 edition). It is reminiscent of the lettering used on intertitle cards of the silent film era. This font marks an amazing milestone - the 2000th release by Jeff Levine Fonts since its inception in January of 2006.

It seems that after the 1960s, very few display typefaces were being produced that had the desirability to transcend generations, as did many type designs of the past. In 1970, a local television station embraced a lettering style for its logo that was a cross between round point pen nib lettering and the modular, techno look complete with squared characters in a futuristic "space age" style. News Crew JNL was inspired by the few examples found of this particular font [in use by the station at the time] and was pretty much created from scratch in order to capture the 1970s era of experimental typography.
