Bruce 1065 is a beautiful victorian font by Chyrllene K, with two styles, a free interpretation off the "1065 font style" of the 1882 George Bruce's New York typefoundry extra-rare catalogue, from Intellecta’s collection of rare books and catalogues.

Shortly after the preparation of the original Century, the two Bentons (father Linn Boyd and son Morris Fuller) prepared a wider version for De Vinne’s press and called it Century Broadface. In 1900 ATF released the design for general use as Century Expanded, one of the most popular and effective of typefaces, to this day the text face of the New York Daily News.

George Bruce's New York foundry had a remarkable number of decorative types, most of which were lost or destroyed when the firm was taken over by the American Type Founders Co. and closed down in 1906. Bruce catalogs are prized among collectors.

I started to work at the Bernhard Studio in 1952 to 1959 in New York. I helped with some type designs and many other projects, this two tiered signature was added on all of Bernhard’s art that was produced in the past and in his later years. In the 50’s I thought Bernhard’s Gothic face was quite a bit outdated but as you may know it has become one of todays most used faces. His signature is based on his Bernhard Gothic Font. With todays computer technology I have digitized the caps and added lower case glyphs with lower ascenders and other slight changes.

NewJune is a very strong unique character. It is already used in many magazines all over the world. Like Harvey Nichols magazine in London and later W magazine in New York. NewJune is the corporate typeface of the Academy of the Arts in Munich.

Originally issued as Palm from the A. D. Farmer Foundry in New York, about 1887. This is a good early example of the transition from the ruffles and fluorishes of Victorian fonts to the more restrained decoration that came to be called Art Nouveau.

Subway Ticker is based on a 5×7 grid, electronic display observed on a New York subway train in February 2005. Also included is a ‘Grid’ variation of the font that is slightly more spaced out and based upon a more precise grid structure.

Perfume Counter JNL was based on the hand lettered song title found on the 1938 sheet music for "At A Perfume Counter (On the Rue de la Paix)" from Billy Rose's New York revue "Casa Mañana", and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Apparently original with the Lindsay brothers type foundry in New York shortly before they were merged into the American Type Founders Company. A few characters of the original font have been modified slightly to make them more harmonious with the rest of the alphabet.

Using examples of antique street signs from New York City, Stickball JNL recreates the iconic lettering in a digital typeface and is available in both regular and oblique versions. For a nostalgic touch, a blank street sign is located on either the solid or broken bar keystrokes.

Solid Deco JNL was modeled after a small sign with the word "restaurant" in an unusual Art Deco solid lettering style. It was spotted within the same image of the Lenox Lounge in New York which gave forth the neon letters that became Sign Sans JNL.

Woodford Bourne is a brand new 19th century grotesque typeface. The design is a tribute to the historic stone cast type in the building façades of the former Woodford, Bourne & Co. in Cork City, Ireland. For many years I had admired the type’s simplicity and strength, so I decided to faithfully reproduce those letters and expand them to a fully working font with 500 glyphs per case. A key feature of Woodford Bourne is the ability to change the feel of your typography with just one click. Switch from contemporary to vintage style by selecting “Stylistic Set 1” – this gives Woodford Bourne a unique versatility which I am sure you will enjoy playing with in your designs. Cult is the work of designer Timothy Donaldson and its forms alone evoke a sense of mystery. The wide capitals with their unusual forms complement perfectly a condensed, angular lower case alphabet. The unique Cult is especially suited to work dealing with anything mystical or New Age.

Named after the trendy New York City locale, SoHo Nights BF features sensuous curves and tapering lines that combine to create a unique new look that’s a little bit art deco and a little bit art nouveau. The font also exhibits attributes that can be described as cartoon-like, and even “spooky” when seen in short blocks of large text. Use SoHo Nights BF when your projects require that certain "air of mystique".

Mandarin Duck is a very playful typeface where its design was inspired by the rare duck seen in New York once every year. The delicate tail of this duck creates the edges of the characters. It is bold and fun, a perfect typeface for children books and larger texts.

Teen Years JNL was inspired by the hand lettered name for the Joyce Records label (circa 1956) which first recorded the New York doo-wop group The Crests (of “16 Candles” fame). The type design is a block sans serif, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Hubbard is based on hand lettering from the Roycroft Arts and Crafts movement of turn-of-the-century New York. The Roycrofters were heavily influenced by the design concepts of William Morris and Charles Rennie MacKintosh. The font takes its name from Elbert Hubbard, leader of the Roycroft movement.

Sam Suliman is a condensed display face supplied in three weights – Regular, Medium and Bold – plus a set of handy italics (obliques). All six fonts are included in the value family pack. The fonts are inspired by lowercase lettering on a Sarah Vaughan album cover designed by Sam Suliman in 1962, a style which contrasts sharp tight outer corners with soft rounded counters. The letters were perhaps influenced by a Solotype font called Herald Square, but without that font’s aversion to diagonals, and adding distinctive perky ascenders/descenders on the lowercase r, a, u, g and n. The Sam Suliman fonts also add the nubs to d, m, p, and q. Suliman was born in Manchester, England in 1927. After working for McCann Erikson in London, he moved to New York where he took on freelance work designing album covers, particularly celebrated are his striking minimalist designs for jazz records. He moved back to England in the early 1960s, designing many book jackets, film titles and fabrics, also working in Spain and India before settling in Oxford in the 1980s.

ITC Orbon font is the work of New York designer James Montalbano, inspired in part by a demo of black letter calligraphy in which letters were created out of only four or five basic strokes. I combined that idea with the notion of taking historical forms like German gothic blackletter and progressively paring them down to achieve a futuristic version, as if this old form naturally evolved over several hundred years to arrive at its post-modern incarnation." A font designed by Christian Acker (2002), based upon neon signage in downtown New York. 24Hrs was an exercise in creating flat artwork from the inspiration of neon's three dimensional forms. All of the tubing's overlapping and twisting is documented and taken into account in the design of the letterforms.

Vintage New York neon signage alongside the landmark Dubrow's Cafeteria [probably circa the 1940s] of the words "retail shop" inspired the namesake digital type design. Retail Shop JNL is a bold and somewhat eccentric Art Deco font with varying widths and unusual character forms available in both regular and oblique versions.

Massimo is a semi-serif geometric type family. For as long as I can remember, I've admired the visual style of New York – its architecture, fashion, design, and typography. After spending two weeks in Manhattan this summer, I wanted to prepare a sharp and modern typeface in Big Apple style.

Newsreel Caps JNL is a novelty caps-only outline letter with cast shadow set inside film frames. Although the design idea itself is not new, this version is based on lettering from a vintage piece of sheet music for a song featured in the movie "Fox Movietone Follies". The font is a wink and nod to Fox's long-running newsreel series called "Fox Movietone News". The upper case keys have black letters on a white frame, while the lower case keys have white letters on a black frame. A blank white frame is on the period key; a blank black frame is on the comma key. Use this font for individual initials, set the characters loose for effect or set them tight (as provided) for a continuous film strip.

Harpsichord (as I have named it) is from the late 1940s and was designed at Lucian Bernhard Studios in New York for Bernhard's Magnetype Collection. It was originally published as 'Community Low' along with 'Community Condensed'. Many of his Magnetype Fonts have been dormant which I hope to revive in the near future.

The cover of the 1930s-era “Catalog of Artists’ Materials” from Ernst H. Friedrichs, Inc. (New York) has the words “Artists’ Materials” hand lettered in a stylized Art Deco sans serif type style.
