A style of die-cut cardboard letters and numbers used for signs, displays and show cards was the basis for Haute Couture JNL, an Art-Deco flavored typeface from Jeff Levine. A direct cousin to Signboard JNL, this font shares some similar characteristics in letterforms. Both styles of die-cut lettering were manufactured by a number of companies, and were most popular from the 1940s through the mid-1960s.

Rock Concert JNL is a playful free form type design inspired by the opening title and credits for the 1964 motion picture comedy “Send Me No Flowers” starring Rock Hudson, Doris Day, and Tony Randall. Strongly resembling hippie movement poster lettering of the mid-1960s, this fonts fits well with any retro project emulating the “Peace and Love” movement or (as its name implies) re-creating period piece rock concert posters.

Inspired by the hand lettered title on the cover of a mid-1950s comic book [based on the beloved children’s TV host Captain Kangaroo], Treasure House JNL is a casual, playful serif font available in both regular and oblique versions. From 1955 through 1984, the late Bob Keeshan brought the gentle Captain into the living rooms of eager youngsters who were both taught and entertained each weekday morning.

Decima Mono Round – another addition to the Decima fonts family. Decima Mono Round is a modern monospaced condensed sans serif family with classic geometric design, built in three weights and six styles. The letterforms in roman style are techno (engineered) in appearance, while italics remind one of elegant handwriting balanced with Roman geometry. The typeface is released in OpenType format with extended support for most Latin languages, as well as Cyrillic.

Ondise is a curvy and warm hand-lettered calligraphy script with a natural, dancing baseline. This Opentype font was created with a pointed pen & ink, and includes six different ampersands as well as a swash feature that automatically substitutes beginning & end of word letters. To enable alternate ampersands, simply turn on the contextual alternates feature and type &1, &2, &3, etc. Opentype coding automatically substitutes the new ‘and’.

Actually, the sinuous swirls suggest, rather, an Art Nouveau influence, which is why this version has its name. Well, that, and the original design didn’t need any fixing. The Danish designer Nina Lee Storm designed Noa for use on television and computer screens during the late 1990s. She began her six-member type family with the creation of bitmap fonts, developing their print outlines only secondarily. In his book of 100 Wood Type Alphabets, Rob Roy Kelly called this face "Teutonic". This version adds lowercase letters, missing in the original, plus a few woodcut dingbats in the brackets, bar, section and florin positions. Named for a charming town in the Texas Hill Country, founded by German settlers in the mid-1850s. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Kaufmann font was designed in 1936 for the American Type Founders by Max R. Kaufmann, a letterer, typographer, and one-time art director for McCalls magazine. Kaufmann is a connecting script typeface with a smooth, slightly whimsical look. Its monoweight is unusual in a script type but allows for a nice texture on the page when it is combined with sans serif text type. The bold Kaufmann is fine display type.

The concept for Cell Block 6 is based on the rigid structure and design of modern architecture. It is a structural display font created by Enrich Design. Four of six versions of Cell Block 6 are designed to be used as display fonts in order to uphold their detail. Back in the 20th Century B.C. (Before Computers) there was what was known as a "paper" office. Workers used typewriters, correction fluid and a drawer full of rubber stamps. Mario De Libero designed Swanstone while investigating XIX Century Old Style typefaces. Designs like Theophile Beaudoire’s Romana (1860) or Miller & Richard’s Modernized Old Style, that re-imagined the classical “Venetian” letterforms adding flared serifs and early Art Nouveau influences. I used to be a tour guide and spent a lot of time in Asia. One thing that I really liked, was having noodles, ANY kind of noodles, for breakfast! Breakfast Noodles is a very uncomplicated headline font: I made it while seriously renovating our ‘new’ home (a fixer upper farm), which means that this particular font was made over a period of almost 3 months… It wasn’t exactly a letter at a time, but close. I will try and make the next font in, say, under two months… Hopefully! In the meantime, enjoy this one!

Anlinear is part of a series of constructed typographic experiments from the young Swiss designer Michael Parson.
