This time I touched another classic manuscript for my font. The Lindisfarne Gospels is an illuminated manuscript probably produced around the years 715–720 in the monastery at Lindisfarne, off the coast of Northumberland. It’s the work of a monk named Eadfrith. He was a highly trained calligrapher, and he used insular majuscule script in the manuscript. A personal handwriting done in pencil. Conté Script is a computer font but has the extraordinary look of handwriting. The typeface is exceedingly lively, diversified and distinct thanks to more than 300 different ligatures, i.e. letter combinations. In addition to the letter combinations in Conté Script, there are also double letters and figures included (aa, ff, AA, MM, 22, 66…) as ligatures with stylistic alternates. Type set in Conté Script appears remarkably similar to a text actually handwritten with a pencil. The typical style of the pencil — crumbliness where pressure lessens and the deep darkness where the pressure of the graphite in it's fullest denseness smudges — is another earmark of Conté Script. The font appears to be written quickly, fleetingly, casually, as if not really to be taken seriously, and as if it would be written one minute and erased the next. Big Brush is the result of me seeing Brush Script everywhere around me. Toronto signage is full of Brush Script. My last two trips to the West Coast showed me mostly Brush Script. Brush Script must be the most widely overused North American script font of all time. Don't we all know at least one restaurant or bar with its sign made in Brush Script? And aren't you just sick of the weird F, Q and T of Brush Script? Well, out with the old and in with the new. Big Brush was made as a replacement for Brush Script, and then some. Make the font look beautiful and elegant, look as semi-serif, as calligraphic touch or others. The base of the Capital Characters is set a little bit lower than the small cases/lowercases. On small/normal size typing, the difference is less visible (obscure), but will be more visible/more clear as the typing set larger. Thus, Sharp End fonts will work well for both text and display. The fonts has also character variants. The character variations (in PUA) set in 5 stylistic sets ss01 ... ss05 (see Sharp End opentype features poster). So, these character variations will be easier accessible in more common application such as MS Words, Text Edit or the others. The glyphs may also be accessed via Character Map, Character viewer, insert character, insert symbol or other similar tools. You can use Sharp End for most of typing and design means such as: greeting, invitation, wedding and other cards; books, magazines, news, banners, logos, Pamphlets, advertising etc., for printing or digital/web display. As addition, with 3 weight variants, the regular will fit for longer text for normal use, while the bold and semi-bold is more suited for the covers, impressions, titling, Logos, design or other usage. With its smoothness curve and sharp ends, Sharp End will pairs well to most fonts of various kinds: Sans Serif, Serif, Handwritten, Scripts and others. Simppeli is a simple-lined but rough font. As written text it gives an impression of drawn lines on cross-ruled paper. You can fill the entire text area: the space key gives an "empty" grid. You may have to change the settings of some text applications in order to eliminate the marginals and/ or the line spacing.
