Basim Marah is an Arabic display typeface and is useful for titles and graphic projects. The font is based on the simple lines of free style calligraphy. A collaborative effort, Basim Marah was designed and drawn by Basim Salem Al Mahdi from Iraq and then digitalized as a typeface by Hasan Abu Afash from Palestine. In November, 2008, Basim Marah was upgraded by working with Mirjam Somers an award-winning Arabic type designer to the DecoType font format for use in WinSoft Tasmeem which is now bundled with InDesign CS4.

A rather narrow and compact design, Monotype Clearface combines both old style and antique characteristics. The lowercase letters are tall, the ascenders and descenders quite short. The intention was to produce a typeface that was easy to read in small sizes, hence the name. Monotype Clearface Bold was first cut for mechanical composition in 1922, and was based on the Clearface Gothic design created by Morris Fuller Benton for ATF in 1910. Although designed as a text face, Monotype Clearface is now more commonly used in advertising and display work.

My kids love toadstools, especially the red capped ones with the white spots (they’re called Amanita muscaria, a.k.a. fly agaric - in case you’re wondering). A couple of months ago you could find loads of them in the forest, but now they’ve all disappeared. Toadstool font will not disappear, however. It is a very legible, clean and neat text font with an uneven baseline, slightly bouncy glyphs and more diacritics than a forest has mushrooms. Use if for packaging, kids’ book covers and posters. This toadstool is the non-toxic variety, so go nuts.

The inspiration for this font made its first appearance in the 1897 American Type Founders specimen book, under the name "Lithotint". As the name suggests, the original was tinted gray (diagonal lines formed the body); this version is solid and spooky, too. The font contains a few ghostly graphics, including ghosts at the bracket positions, a haunted house at the backslash position, and a scary backdrop at the ASCII tilde and ASCII circumflex positions. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

In few words, Monodia is a small but widely applicable slab serif (nearly monoweight) font family with only two weight and one cut effect version. To those who agree with the fact that less is actually more, three fonts should be sufficient for branding, headlines and other display uses. With that reason regular and bold weights are designed with huge contrast. In order to avoid clogging of certain (especially Cyrillic) letters in the text, some serifs are atypically modified or allowed. Unlike uppercase letters and numbers, lowercase letters don’t have forked serifs. Еnjoy!

Modern digital typography pushes many designers to try and achieve visual perfection with their lettering. In the days of wooden type, the premise was more in creating a font that "sold" the message (possibly, in part due to the lack of advanced tooling to achieve uniformity). In many styles of wood type (such as the one used as a model for Broadletter JNL), there are vast differences within the character design, weight and symmetry from letter to letter. Kitsune means ‘Fox’ in Japanese. It really has nothing to do with Japanese foxes, but I am going to Japan in a few weeks, so I figured a Japan-inspired name would be perfect. Kitsune Tail is a messy brush font with no real baseline. It is an all-caps font, but upper and lower case differ and can be mixed. It comes with a full set of alternates for the lower case glyphs and a really impressive language support! I hope this foxy font will bewitch you. Enjoy!

CamingoDos is characterised by tight shapes, elliptical curves, subtle contrast and a strong, humanistic appearance: attributes that were all applied with particular care and attention for legibility. Plaisir came unexpectedly, as in between release while we waited for client's confirmation for their project. After trying a couple of different approaches, Plaisir landed as elegant modern sans serif family with 5 weights and matching Italics. With sharp triangle serifs and wide endings, Plaisir was constructed with decent stem contrast that flirt with display category. It is versatile, legible, recognizable family with fluent Italics. Equipped with Standard Ligatures, Tabular Figures, OldStyle Figures, a few Stylistic Alternates, basic Ordinals and Latin Small Caps, Plaisir is a working horse that will suit in any required situations.

A calligraphic alphabet in bold/light brushstrokes Actually, a typeface like this one should be written with a wide brush; this one was written with a thick, pointed brush. Thus were created the round or misshapen ends of the stems, and the sometimes excessively pointed ends of the hairlines. For each character of KLEX, the large brush was dipped in the ink anew. Using this method, the forms turned out very soft, in spite of their geometrical rigidity. The individual characters are heavy, simple, and monumental, so that they are also suitable as initials.

I have had the name "Fruitcake Fanatics" in my mind for quite some time now...but I needed a font that suited the name...then one day...actually last Wednesday, I was playing around with some letters (which eventually would turn out to be this font!) and suddenly it struck me: I got the letters for my Fruitcake Fanatics font! BrownFox was created because I saw a need for a condensed, loose handwriting - I used my trusty nylon marker to create this font - it is rough, yet thin and elegant. BrownFox has a few surprises like some serious ascenders and descenders with an exaggerated x-height. Caps are intentionally simple to maintain an even rhythm. BrownFox works very well in caps, upper-lowercase, lowercase only, small and large. This font will be useful in many applications from invitations through CD album covers. The name was inspired by the other ipsum lorem.:-)

Too often, familiarity in type design can fool us into mislabeling similar styles of lettering. The Art Deco years provided many variations of the thick-and-thin alphabet, and we tend to lump all of them together as being "a version of Broadway", as this is the most popular of the genre. Henri Abraham Chatelain was a cartographer and publisher of the famous Atlas Historique, ou Nouvelle Introduction a L'Histoire, a world atlas released between 1705 and 1732 in Amsterdam. A few years ago, at an antique book shop in London, I bought a page from Chatelain's atlas—a page covering the Near East, India, the Indian Ocean—that had a particularly alluring, oblique handlettering style. The text is in French, which gave me plenty of samples of diacritics and accented characters. The overall effect is neat and legible, with a distinctly historical flair.

The roots of this font go back to 1967. A book title in trendy letters was created in a completely ingenuous way as a film prop for a Super 8 fun film. I drew the letters with felt-tip pen and poster paint without thinking too much about it. It wasn't until a good 50 years later that I realized, this was a first awkward typeface draft. The flower power vibe was captured here subconsciously. In 2019 I completed the few glyphs and created variants that I would not have thought of at the time.

The Teapot Dome scandal was a 1920s bribery scandal involving Secretary of the Interior Albert Bacon Fall. Fall leased Navy petroleum reserves at Teapot Dome in Wyoming [along with some California reserves] at low rates with no competitive bidding. The San Francisco Examiner for Feb. 20, 1924 ran the two line headline “U.S. Senator Named as Oil Stock Speculator; Whitney to Face Quiz Today on Slush Fund”. The headline was set in a condensed, slightly squared sans serif typeface. This is now available as Special Edition JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

The wind howled, the night grew long, and British type designer and lettering artist Tim Donaldson created the typeface Banshee. This dramatic display face is modeled after one of Donaldson�s handwritten lettering styles. Banshee began as letters rapidly written by Donaldson with one of his homemade ruling" pens. The letterforms are firmly rooted in the tradition of classical chancery italics. Big Jim Roberts was my dad. A dedicated family man who taught us about faith, values and love is missed by our family. Jim just about did it all. He was a military man, a police officer, a power company engineer and a photographer. This typeface (which is comprised of a bold lower-case alphabet) has a 70s retro feel. Jim might have like it. I am trying to become a vegetarian (I am a ‘flexitarian’ right now) and I was trying to find a good veggie recipe for dinner, when this name crossed my mind. Vegetability is a handwritten font with a dash of roughness, a splash of attitude and a pinch of class. Comes with a whole bunch of diacritics and double letter ligatures for the lower case letters.

I‘d like to introduce “Charlonka“ to you. When my daughter finished high school, she wanted to get rid of her entire school stuff. So I saved a few sheets of her beautiful handwriting and promised her to create a typeface out of it. That‘s how the idea of Charlonka was born, a typeface family out of Charlotte‘s handwriting (by the way: that‘s her name). Some characters of Charlonka have extended crossbars, like in upper case A or H, and reduced descenders, like in lower case g or y.

Shelley Script was designed by Matthew Carter and appeared with Mergenthaler Linotype in 1972. It is based on intricate English scripts of the 18th and 19th centuries. The musical terms Andante, Allegro and Volante were chosen by Carter to describe the mood of the three different cuts of his font. Andante is the most reserved, Allegro has a few more flourishes, and Volante’s capital letters are surrounded with swirling strokes.
