P22 Brass Script is a new font from an old source. This script font was discovered in a booklet from Dornemann & Co. of Magdeburg Germany, circa 1910. The book was titled Messingschriften fur Handvergoldung, which roughly translates to “Brass types for hand foil stamping.” The mini catalog called this type simply “Script.” It has not been previously digitized or seen in standard metal type form. The antique specimen book featured most of the characters needed for a full alphabet, but a number of letters were not shown. Since no other examples of this style could be found, P22 enlisted the assistance of master calligrapher Michael Clark to draw the missing characters in the same style as the original. The style is very loosely based on the secretarial hands and reminiscent of “French Hand” with a very early 20th century, pre-modern feel. It has an unusual flow that is neither too casual nor too formal. The font would be useful for wedding invitations or packaging and advertising. P22 Brass Script Pro features include: automatic ligatures for common pairs such as ll, tt, qu and a variety of f ligatures, full CE language support including Turkish and Romanian and a variety of swash underscores for different length words that can be added manually in OpenType ready applications with the glyph palette or with the contextual alternates. The length of the word will automatically select the best length of swash for the work.

Helmswald Post is a handsome Blackletter that's been years in the making. There's a mix of wispy terminals, flamboyant caps, and the use of negative space to create contrast. Elements from High German, Old English, and many other styles make their way into this gorgeous display font. The result is a medieval looking script with cleaner, more modern feel. This family was inspired by the two fonts used by the famous William Caxton in Westminster (UK) in the late 1400s. There is only one (Normal) style. We have added the accented characters and others not in use in the early time of printing, but the ligatures and the few abbreviations for the Old English language and Latin were present in the original fonts. The original cap height is about five to seven millimeters. Decorated letters like 1495 Lombardes, 1512 Initials, 1550 Arabesques, 1565 Venetian, and 1584 Rinceau can be used in complement with this font without anachronism.

The name FeggoliteHatched comes from the fact that it was created with the help of an old font manipulation program called Incubator Pro. It was an attempt to create a more conventional typeface from the odd monospaced font, FeggoliteMono. As a monospaced font, FeggoliteHatched could be considered a typewriter face, but no typewriter ever produced letters like these. The original version from 1994 is now the italic style and it has a leftward or back slant. The upright or plain version was added much later, in 2018. There is also a choppy upright version included in this family.

Originally drawn in 1999 as a college project with the ambition to make the ‘most beautiful’ alphabet in the world. After these heroic beginnings Spaghetti lay dormant in the VLNL vaults for many years, appearing to silently peter away. Now look at it! Ten years hence, it is finally being served up in glorious OpenType, precisely al dente. As automated special sauce, each lowercase character before or after a space receives a nice little ball ending to round things off. And finally, the parmesan cheese sprinkled on top is like a tasty bunch of ligatures – enough to make your mouth water.

Initially inspired by an untitled typeface from an old hand-lettering book, Berber has been extensively developed over two incarnations to function as a very strong and confident sans. The 2011 Berber revisions have enabled Berber to be used across longer settings as well as its more conventional use on larger applications such as signage. Berber was used as the text face for issue 46 of Eye, the graphic design journal. The typeface now features both king caps and small caps. Extensive additions to the numerals sets and complete opentype sets of international diacritics also extend its usage.

This family was inspired by the set of fonts used in the end of 1800s by the famous J. H. Geiger, printer in Lahr (Germany), especially these used to print an almanac for the year 1883. It is a Fraktur pattern, with two styles, as a few others incomplete fonts also used for this work were Blackletters from other patterns. Both were used in two size, for titles, subtitles, main text and notes. This font contains standard ligatures and German historical ligatures (German double s, long s, tz, ch, ck...) and diacritics. 1543 German Deluxe Initials may be used in complement this family.

Sheet music for another one of those songs from the early part of the 20th Century with a wonderfully wordy hand lettered title was the model for the Art Nouveau flavored Go Home JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. 1908's "I Used to be Afraid to Go Home in the Dark (Now I'm Afraid to Go at All)" is comprised of eighteen words. It may have been a mouthful to request from the local sheet music shop, but the lettering on its cover made it a great candidate for preserving as a digital typeface.

Ruff N Ready is a little bit rough around the edges and is ready for use on any project! This font has an innocent charm about it but is a bit of a non-conformist. Is it a serif font? Sans serif? A script font? It’s all of those and more! It’s legible enough to be used for body copy but holds its own in a headline or title. Greene and Hollins of Wolverhampton were a rather smart gentleman’s outfitter, much frequented by my late grandfather and altogether redolent (in memory and actuality) of a bygone age of retail service and respect. I believe they’re out of business now, but we’re rather pleased to offer them this very small if rather random memorial. Greene and Hollins is a set of seven display typefaces, with uniform metrics, which can be overlaid to create multi-coloured ‘engraved’ effects. Also ideal to recreate traditional sign-writing, garment labels, signage and anything else where a period flare is required.

PostScript fonts are constructed by connecting dots, dots that have special attributes that control the shape of the connecting lines. In designing Minimalist, I wanted to see how few dots could be used to construct each letter. This is the source of the name--it is (or was) a minimum-point alphabet. I did not expect much from it, and was surprised that it turned out as well as it did. Since I originally drew it, I have added some points to some of the letters to get them to generate proper bitmaps, so it no longer has minimum points.

Advertiser JNL is a simple A-Z only font used to make retro-styled titles and names. Based on a popular style of retail signage from the 1950s and 1960s, alternating keystrokes will create a contrast of positive and negative letters. The capital letters have the alphabet in white on black boxes, the lower case have the black letters alone—with the white space conforming to the width of the black boxes. Naga is Hans van Maanen's original creation of art deco shapes interected with intricate mazes of what could be Celtic or Mesoamerican knotwork art. The totality of the typeface borders on the mysterious, exotic and yet clearly discernible as far as readability is concerned. Naga comes with a companion outline style that emphasizes its intricacy. Both fonts hold up quite strongly when combined with photo/illustration masks. The Naga family comes in both OTF and TTF formats, and includes an extended range of characters covering most Latin-based languages. A few unicase forms are also included.

My son Sam turned 12 and all of a sudden he cares for his hairdo. It needs to be just so, not too long, not too short, with a lot of gel to hold it in place. ;-) He just had a haircut when I was creating this font, so now you know where the Haircut part comes from. The Holistic part is something that sort of sounded ok. Holistic Haircut is a nice, handmade display font.
