Virtuosa Classicis the 21st century OpenType re-release of a classic Hermann Zapf design, his very first script typeface, Virtuosa. Based on the same sketches that would inspire Zapfino 50 years later, Hermann Zapf developed Virtuosa in 1948-49. It was originally released in metal in 1952. Virtuosa nova is an English copperplate script with character. The font includes two form variants for each capital letter, and there are a number of lowercase alternates and ligatures, too.

Father's Day, or June 17 of this year, is in the middle of Argentinian winter. And like people do on wintery Sunday mornings, I was bundled up in bed with too many covers, pillows and comforters. Feeling good and not thinking about anything in particular, Father's Day was nowhere in the vicinity of my mind. My eleven year old son, Matías, came into the room with a handmade present for me. Up to this point, my Father's Day gift history was nothing unusual. Books, socks, hand-painted wooden spoons, the kind of thing any father would expect from his pre-teen son. So you can understand when I say I was bracing myself to fake excitement at my son's present. But this Father's Day was special. I didn't have to fake excitement. I was in fact excited beyond my own belief. Matí's handmade present was a complete alphabet drawn on an A4 paper. Grungy, childish, and sweeter than a ton of honey. He'd spent days making it, three-dimensioning the letters, wiggle-shadowing them. Incredible. A common annoyance for graphic designers is explaining to people, even those close to them, what they do for a living. You have to somehow make it understandable that you are a visual communicator, not an artist. Part of the problem is the fact that "graphic designer" and "visual communicator" are just not in the dictionary of standard professions out there. If you're a plumber, you can wrap all the duties of your job with 3.5 words: I'm a plumber. If you're a graphic designer, no wrapper, 3.5 or 300 words, will ever cover it. I've spent many hours throughout the years explaining to my own family and friends what I do for a living, but most of them still come back and ask what it is exactly that I do for dough. When you're a type designer, that problem magnifies itself considerably. When someone asks you what you do for a living, you start looking for the nearest exit, but none of the ones you can find is any good. All the one-line descriptions are vague, and every single one of them queues a long, one-sided conversation that usually ends with someone getting too drunk listening, or too tired of talking. Now imagine being a type designer, with a curious eleven year old son. The kid is curious as to why daddy keeps writing huge letters on the computer screen. Let's go play some ball, dad. As soon as I finish working, son. He looks over my shoulder and sees a big twirly H on the screen. To him it looks like a game, like I'm not working. And I have to explain it to him again. This Father's Day, my son gave me the one present that tells me he finally understands what I do for a living. Perhaps he is even comfortable with it, or curious enough about that he wants to try it out himself. Either way, it was the happiest Father's Day I've ever had, and I'm prouder of my son than of everything else I've done in my life. This is Matí's font. I hope you find it useful.

The Craftsman font is a faithful reproduction of the logo, or Title typeface used for Gustav Stickley's "Craftsman" Magazine, the foremost journal of the American Arts & Crafts Movement during its publication years of 1901-1916. It is an All-Caps font, with condensed and closely-spaced characters, specifically designed for titles and headlines. The "Craftsman" font is available in two versions: "Craftsman Regular" and "Craftsman Outline." Each is two fonts in one, in the sense that the capital letters are contained in a hand-drawn box (as on the cover of "The Craftsman" Magazine). Lower-case characters are identical, but without the box. Thus, the two may be used separately, or in combination, to achieve a desired effect.

This typeface came out as a side idea while I was working on one logotype. Suddenly I came up with an idea of creating “tuned” version of the typeface, based on that logo. The “tuning” turned me in a completely different direction and in a few hours of haste I was looking at a completely different typeface. A few days later I made this font available for free, since it wasn't meant to be at all :-). A few months later, I saw my typeface used in the menu in one pizzeria. I was amazed and glad and happy and proud, all at the same time. Oh, by the way: the logo I was working on was of different style and even of another stem’s widths. So, this is truly a font of it’s own design. Naftalin has both Latin and Cyrillic sets, since it was used with both.

Noir Jolie is a modern ligature serif font that comes with curvy & straight combo of uppercase letters and chic lowercase alphabet that together look just perfect. Noir Jolie is also my last font for 2022 so I really hope you guys like it. «Abelina» is a typeface that can be used in display sizes for titles where part of the central premise is to emulate certain features of gestural handwriting.  Concepts like spontaneity, speed and fluidity, associated with the use of certain calligraphic tools – in this case the pointed brush – led to a typographic result based on the pattern-like structure coming from the chancery and italic calligraphic models. «Abelina» - initially designed by Yanina Arabena (Calligrapher, Graphic Designer and Typographer) - is reborn to make way for “Abelina Pro” through the solid work of Guillermo Vizzari working together with Ale Paul from Sudtipos. Throughout its use, “Abelina Pro” maintains the structure of a firm style, integrating a dynamic rhythm in the composition of short texts and offering personality to each of the words it builds. It has over a thousand glyphs, including several alternates, ligatures combination, initials and miscellaneous to reinforce the idea of the author of merging a calligraphic project in the typographic world; allowing new ways to capture this great universe of italic faces. «Abelina» project was initially born as a typographic project developed by Yanina Arabena – tutored by Ale Paul and Ana Sanfelippo – under completion of the Specialization in Typography Design at University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, during the years 2011 and 2012.

Designed by Les Usherwood. Digitally engineered by Steve Jackaman. A few weights were originally released by another foundry; but this complete version of the family is a better match to Les’ original drawings!

Option Sans is a rework of Anuthin Wongsunkakon's Coupe. The popular font originally sold by T26 has now been humanized. Improved legibility from the original Coup to serve better as fine text font.

Inspired by the hand lettering on a 1940 campaign poster for Franklin Delano Roosevelt, this condensed, casual sans serif design is now available as Political Poster JNL – in both regular and oblique versions.

Handprint was inspired by a set of old metal alphabet stamps, with a few modifications. Stamped in a sketchy manner, these metal stamps made the basis for a very interesting alphabet and font.

Advertisements in the September, 1936 French movie publication “La Cinématographie Française” featured a hand lettered slab serif type design that is now available as Cinema Serif JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

Negative sans-serif capitals in squares with rounded corners, looking like tiles, pushbuttons or computer keys. The font can be used for logos, signs and labels, and for markings on maps and charts.

Roanoke Script is a hand-written script inspired by 18th century forms. The visual effect is of a steel nib pen writing on uncalendered paper. Ideal for a few words in display sizes.

Blak belongs to the type series designed by Íñigo Jerez for the defunct magazine Suite . This chubby typeface now has a second life in our collection. Use it with confidence for big statements.

Radona is a blast from the 80’s that's rader than rad. Radona is the typeface version of Synthwave, an electronic music subgenre that takes influence from the 1980s but builds on it, resulting in a construct that lives in the minds of both those who have experienced it and those who haven't. Radona expresses a nostalgia for 1980s culture, attempting to replicate and appreciate the era's vibe, but extends it further with something new. This sans family has plenty of 80's flavor, but with some fresh twists to push it to the limit. Radona is a geometric sans-serif typeface. Radona has a few quirky characteristics, but it has a generally neutral tone and structure that makes it ideal for usage in print, especially when a contemporary look is desired. It looks amazing in both body text and headlines. The geometric grotesques that were popular in the 1980s served as inspiration. It's a typeface that's been crafted for usage in a range of design fields, from branding to packaging, and it can be used in anything from interfaces to apps. Radona is an excellent typeface for use on websites and other digital applications. Plakato, a stencil love affair Plakato is a family of display fonts, consisting of various eye-catching styles, each of them very bold. Plakato is an identity toolkit, a heavyweight building block in case you need a strong personality, a small stencil font family to cut out your best ideas and grab all the attention. But just as with many other creations, its outcome is as divers as its multiple origins. Plakato comes in 16 eye-catching styles. The default stencil style comes in Regular & Italic. They both have 2 variations: one version, named Plakato Stencil, automatically creates borders around the text, putting any text into a graphic stencil in this way. Another version, the extruded three-dimensional version, guarantees even more attention for your message. Next to this there is also the Inline version, which is an optical play with a lot of lines. Plakato Inline has a supportive background layer, a separate font in case you want to add a background in a different colour. Then there is Plakato Paper, a manually teared version of Plakato offering a more physical look. This small family of eye-catching display fonts also contains a Neon font, an independent design in Plakato style, which can actually be used for making neon signs due to its construction. Plakato Neon comes with its own Dingbat font for that extra flush-flush. Plakato has also been redrawn on a C64, and with all its accompanying limitations been ported back and turned into a font: Plakato Game. Also this font comes with its own Dingbat font, full of emoji’s and icons for oldskool pleasure. Last but not least there is Plakato Build, constructed out of blocks. Padraig Nua is a font conceptualized and designed by Tony Fahy. It is a European Celtic font, contemporary to many languages, not just of Europe but of the world. It’s origin is influenced by events in Ireland in the 1960s when it was decided that the uncial letterform should not be used further in Irish schools for the Irish language—Gaelic—and that it should be replaced by the Roman letterform—the Cló Romhanach as it was called afterwards. This happened overnight without any apparent discussion. It probably had a lot to do with Ireland joining the EEC, as the EU was called then. It had a massive effect on the Irish language and culture, in that the distinguishing factor that gave the language it’s identity—the half uncial/uncial fonts that were in use in all school, government and society documentation and merchandise—were lost overnight. No one said how or why. It was just done. To this day, all documentation is bi-lingual in government and Gaelic is taught in schools and universities—and decreed so by the European Union—but the presentation for both languages is the Roman letterform. Throughout the world, there are millions of Irish Americans and Irish Canadians, Irish Europeans, Australian Irish, African Irish and many living in the Middle East and Asia—and this new font—Padraig Nua, will appeal to many of them, visually recalling their roots. No one had thought, in those days, of commissioning a design that might update the Gaelic language to a more contemporary appearance that would keep the cultural nature of it intact with a revised and updated font—at one with Europe, the US and the world. Tony Fahy designed Padraig Nua (New Patrick) to address the problem. It keeps an appearance that lends towards the Gaelic language but steers it in the direction of Roman fonts. Some characters reflect letterforms from the Irish/Gaelic manuscripts and uncial fonts.
