  3. Appelstroop by Hanoded, $15.00
Appelstroop literally means ‘Apple Syrup’ in Dutch, but it is also know as Apple Butter; a slightly sweet & sour goo that you can use to sweeten things, or, as we do in Holland, spread it on a sandwich. It’s delicious, give it a try! Appelstroop font is a chunky, slightly eroded affair. It is mostly all caps, with a few lower case glyphs thrown in for good measure. Use this sticky font for your product packaging, toys and kids book covers!
  4. Fidusmager by PizzaDude.dk, $17.00
This is definitely a font suitable for kids toys. The letters are legible, and at the same time totally wacky! Kinda like what a kids toy should be! Fidusmager started out as a handdrawn, slightly rugged looking fon. However I ended up manually tracing each letter in order to have those smooth lines. By the way, Fidusmager is danish and actually means someone who’ll trick you - but as a kid I didn’t know that, and found that it most likely was something positive! :)

  11. Catskin by Hanoded, $15.00
Catskin is a fairytale by The Brothers Grimm. The story is about a king who has a beautiful wife and daughter - you know, the basic fairytale stuff. Long story short: they all live happily ever after (except for the wife, who dies…). Catskin is also a nice, handmade font. I like making fairytale fonts, especially since I have three kids, who love books. And when I see one of my fonts on the cover, I can tell them: ‘daddy made this’. #prouddaddy ;-)

Aderyn is a hand drawn, elegant font with a light touch to it. Aderyn is soft and sleek, but also comes in bolder styles to give a little extra oomph to your designs. Aderyn is Welsh for 'bird', a language I meant to master, but never took beyond 'good morning', 'bird' and 'cat'. I know, it's pathetic… Aderyn comes in 12 styles, all of which have kerning, stylistic and contextual alternates for both lower and upper case letters. It even has a smiley!
  14. Fossegrim by Kitchen Table Type Foundry, $15.00
I have always liked Scandinavian folklore, although I have to admit that I didn’t know about the Fossegrim. Fossegrim is a fiddle or harp playing water sprite - usually friendly, but he has been known to lure children and women in deep water with his music. Fossegrim font is a little bit weird as well: I made it using a broken bamboo satay skewer and Chinese ink. It comes with extensive language support and a set of alternates for the lower case letters.
  15. 1590 Humane Warszawa by GLC, $38.00
This family was inspired by a font carved circa 1590 for a Polish editor. We don't know who was the punchcutter, nor the printer's name. We have added the special East European diacritics (Czech, Hungarian, Romanian, Croatian, Slovak, Slovenian, Sorbian )as the original font has only the Polish accents. It is a Garamond type, like our 1592 GLC Garamond or 1589 Humane Bordeaux, rough and a little approximate, but attractive. We recommend using OTF version with Windows Vista, providing a best compatibility.

  21. Klaklak by Fontroll, $20.00
Oh no, not another typewriter font! But Klaklak is different. Not only has Klaklak four weights from worn out ink (light) to typing twice (bold), an Italic (which is Regular with authentic underlines as there is no Italic on typewriters) and an x-through font called Klaxxx (no need to erase your typos – just x them out (just kidding 😊)). It also does a lot to avoid repeating letterforms by first replacing about 320 common letter combinations by ligatures and then mixing them up with 4 style sets which results in about 1300 ligatures and more than 2600 glyphs in total per font. The result is a very realistic appearance of a mechanical typewriter. All you have to do is turn on Ligatures and Contextual Alternates in your favourite layout app. Of course Klaklak is multilingual, supports a lot of Latin based languages and has all glyphs for even demanding layout tasks. Enjoy!

  24. Nautica Sottile by Resistenza, $49.00
The Copperplate penmanship style has a distinctive flow and character. Many years of steady and patient practice allow calligraphers to achieve the flow, direction, sequencing, and speed required from the copperplate ductus, to achieve its distinctive, elegant, fluid aesthetic. Nautica is a monumental new script from Resistenza, which builds on the creator’s accomplished penmanship skills. The delicate strokes have high contrast and an extravagant personality. These letterforms invoke 18th-century sailors logbooks and the nostalgic correspondence those at sea sent home to their loved ones, with letters looping and rolling into one another like the waves these intrepid adventurers voyaged on. Nautica’s ornate feel is perfectly suited to romantic applications, and with three weights, one set of useful navigational icons and some nautical knots Nautica will allow you to create rich and cohesive graphics for those 'tying-the-knot' or in any display context which requires some sophistication. Nautica allows you to achieve the complexity and flow of copperplate calligraphy with OpenType features. Supreme swashes inspired by brush pen stroke, and exhaustive alternates, with over 900 glyphs and extensive language support, Nautica offers full professional typographic features, for a natural ‘written’ look. 25. Legendary Legerdemain by Comicraft, $29.00
Are you watching closely? We know what you're looking for -- the secret. Comicraft’s magic formula, our Legendary Legerdemain. But you won't find it because of course, you're not really looking. You don't really want to work it out. You want to believe in the magic. Every great Comicraft font consists of three parts. The first part is called “The Pledge”. Comicraft shows you an ordinary looking font: A through Z, nothing more than the letters of the alphabet, unaltered, normal. But of course... they aren't. The second part is called “The Turn”. Comicraft takes the ordinary letters of the alphabet and makes them look extraordinary. Now you are peering closely -- you convince yourself you're looking for the secret... even though you really don't want to know. You want to be fooled. And you are! But don't applaud yet. Because making something extraordinary isn't enough... That’s why every Comicraft font has a third part, the hardest part, what we call “The Prestige”. That''s when we have to SELL the font. And that’s the real trick. See the families related to Legendary Legerdemain: Legendary Legerdemain Leggy.
  26. Dan Panosian by Comicraft, $29.00
It’s true -- having your own font IS The Secret Of Happiness! At times suave and sophisticated, at other times rough and ready for anything, superstar comics artist Dan Panosian has worked on the likes of CAPTAIN AMERICA, SPAWN, THE FLASH,, SPIDER-MAN, X-THE X-MEN and GREEN LANTERN, as well as the movie, HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE and games like DUKE NUKEM. He hasn't been seen in comics for some time, but he’s back, baby, working on a series of JOHN TIFFANY bandes desinée, and he’s brought his own font with him, courtesy of that awfully nice John JG Roshell at Comicraft. John Tiffany is one of the best bounty hunters in the world and he has no illusions about the world that employs him. Tiffany relies exclusively on four people: the Reverend Lovejoy, who taught him to love his money; Wan Chao, of the geek underworld who serves as an interface with the outside world; Dorothy, his partner, and Magdalena, the ‘call girl in his life.’ But in Mexico, the hunter has become prey, his head has a price. And if his rivals know his location, it means that John Tiffany was betrayed by one of four people he thought he could trust...and now he can rely on only ONE thing, his secret weapon. His FONT. 27. Schotis Text by Huy!Fonts, $35.00
Schotis Text is a workhorse typeface designed for perfect reading on running texts. Its design is based in Scotch Roman 19th-century style but designed from scratch, with a more contemporary and not nostalgic look. It has seven weights plus matching italics, with 1100 glyphs per font, with a very extended character set for Latin based languages as well as Vietnamese, and shows all its potential with OpenType-savvy applications. Every font includes small caps, ligatures, old-style, lining, proportional and tabular figures, superscript, subscript, numerators, denominators, and fractions. The Scotch Romans were one of the most used letters during the 19th and early 20th century, but they don’t have their own place in the main typographical classifications. They appeared at the beginning of the 19th century with Pica No. 2 in the catalog of William Miller (1813) and assumed the British route towards high contrast and vertical axis modern Romans. In fact, they were called just Modern. In opposition to the continental route of Fournier, Didot, and Bodoni, the English way opted for a wider, more legible letter also resistant to bad printing conditions. The name Schotis comes from the misspelling of Scottish that gave the name to a popular dance in Madrid in the 19th-century. It first was called Schotis and today is knows as Chotis.

  29. Avenir Next by Linotype, $97.99
Avenir Next Pro is a new take on a classic face—it’s the result of a project whose goal was to take a beautifully designed sans and update it so that its technical standards surpass the status quo, leaving us with a truly superior sans family. This family is not only an update though, in fact it is the expansion of the original concept that takes the Avenir Next design to the next level. In addition to the standard styles ranging from UltraLight to Heavy, this 32-font collection offers condensed faces that rival any other sans on the market in on and off—screen readability at any size alongside heavy weights that would make excellent display faces in their own right and have the ability to pair well with so many contemporary serif body types. Overall, the family’s design is clean, straightforward and works brilliantly for blocks of copy and headlines alike. Akira Kobayashi worked alongside Avenir’s esteemed creator Adrian Frutiger to bring Avenir Next Pro to life. It was Akira’s ability to bring his own finesse and ideas for expansion into the project while remaining true to Frutiger’s original intent, that makes this not just a modern typeface, but one ahead of its time. Complete your designs with these perfect pairings: Dante™, Joanna® Nova, Kairos™, Menhart™, Soho® and ITC New Veljovic®. 30. Oita by insigne, $-
Oita might be a carefully crafted typeface family, created by a meat-bag human. Or, it might have been made by a supremely clever sentient robot. Found in the dark recesses of a top secret spy agency’s quantum computer, this font came with this somewhat unusual description, which is presented without comment. "To conquer, we cannot simply overcome. Success is found in supremacy--in the dominance of Oita. While looking for the right tool for this success, our research has led us to the finely executed forms found of military domination throughout history. In our labs, we've used our specialized machines to harness these forms' power and refined their impact through elements of contemporary and computer design. The structure proves to be robotic and squared on its edges. However, the chutzpah of this technical face still allows it to pass as if created by human hands. Our resulting payload, Oita, is modern and sturdy. While based on a practical, octagonal structure, make no mistake; this new instrument will drive forward the energy you want to push through your projects. Oita has 42 cuts certain to encompass your designs on world domination. Each font contains the glyphs to support over 52 languages. The font also includes tabular and lining figures, numerous ligatures, and selected advanced Opentype options, including stencil and experimental options to bring out the dynamic characteristics that have already been crafted into Oita. Early tests have found that the new instrument is easily scalable to smaller dimensions without reducing its impact. The font remains highly readable across a variety of applications. We speculate from our findings that it will be successful for sporting and technical applications. So for you who venture to use Oita, use it boldly. Don't just overcome. Dominate. Go and conquer mightily with Oita. We'll be watching." We may never know whether Oita hails from mind or mechanism. What we do know is that, should you choose to take on Oita, you'll be acquiring a dynamic poster and packaging face, a minigun-toting bad robot of a font that exudes pace and power.

  39. Alpha One by Wiescher Design, $18.00
»AlphaOne« is my newest addition to the experimental Alpha-font-collection. I just had to do this one! It is based on Paul Renners fonts, but has got nothing to do with them, I just took the widths and some basic forms. No – or hardly no – optical corrections were made to the glyphs. I wanted the pure geometric forms to come to life. This was a lot of fun to design, I especially like the »Q« with the negative tail. I did make four weights, but nothing is normal with this font, so weight doesn’t really mean anything. Have fun!
