For everyone wishing for a modern serif that’s as clear and readable as a sans in restrictive digital environments, meet Portada by Veronika Burian and José Scaglione. Sans serifs are commonly used on small screens to save space and carry a modern tone. Serifs may appear fickle and unsteady, pixel grids change from one product to another, and space is at a premium. Portada now provides a serif option for these restrictive digital environments, putting that old trope to rest. The screen has met its serif match. Portada was created from and for the digital world — from e-ink or harsh grids to Retina capability — making it one of the few serifs of its kind. Portada’s text and titling styles were engineered for superlative performance, making great use of sturdy serifs, wide proportions, ample x-height, clear interior negative space, and its subservient personality. After all, words always take priority in text. It’s not all business, though. Portada’s italics contain an artefact of calligraphy in which the directionality of the instrokes and the returning curves of the outstrokes give the family a little unexpected brio. Yet even the terminals are stopped short of flourished self-absorption to retain their digital clarity. When printed these details are downright comforting. Hellmut G. Bomm first released his Linotype Nautilus typeface in 1999. Ten years later, he updated and expanded the design. Now users have two additional families at their disposal: Nautilus Text and Nautilus Monoline. Nautilus Text bears more similarities to the original Linotype Nautilus. The letters shows a high degree of contrast in their stroke modulation. Bomm's intention was to create a clear, highly legible face. While the even strokes of most sans serif types eventually tire the eyes in long texts, the marked stroke contrast of Nautilus Text lends the face its legibility. The characters were drawn with a broad tipped pen. Like serif typefaces, the forms of Nautilus Text display a variety of elements. Its characters are narrow, with relatively large spaces between them. This helps create an overall open appearance, and allows a large quantity of text to fit into a small space. Nautilus Monoline's letters share the same overall proportions as Nautilus Text's. But as their name implies, they are monolinear. Their strokes do not have the calligraphic modulation that Nautilus Text features. This allows them to set another sort of headline, making Nautilus Monoline a refreshing display type choice to pair with body text set in Nautilus Text.

In drawing the Avenir® typeface, Adrian Frutiger looked to both the past and the future for inspiration. His goal was to reinterpret the geometric sans serif designs of the early part of the 20th century in a typeface that would portend aesthetics of the 21st century. He succeeded handsomely. In doing so, Frutiger added a bit of organic humanism to the design, freeing Avenir from the rigid geometric overtones of the earlier designs. Avenir is employed on signage at Dallas Fort Worth and Hong Kong international airports. The city of Amsterdam adopted Avenir as its corporate typeface in 2003. The original Avenir family is made up of designs with gradual weight changes in order to satisfy the needs of specific text applications. While the book and light weights have similar stroke widths, the book weight is well suited for body text, whereas the light was designed for captions and subhead text. Fairweather is a fresh air. Clear, transparent, and lucid as if it is the spring and autumn sky. By designed condensed, legible and perspicuous, Fairweather is perfect for titles and captions. Croog is a rounded geometric monoline typeface, built in three weights with true italics. Inspiration for this typeface was derived from FF Roice, with desire to create typeface less spicy or unconventional in appearance and more neutral, calm and friendly to use. Squarish in proportions, monoline letterfoms gain more readability by having short rounded serifs and terminals. The typeface is ideal for use in display sizes, though is quite legible in text. Croog is released as OpenType single master with a Western CP1252 character set.

Abakadabra is a headline typeface inspired by sans-serifs of the first half of the twentieth century, as well as by the tricks of fakirs, illusionists and charmers. The gently playful manner of the font can be exaggerated to a more pretentious and grimacing one, or can alternatively be calmed to a neutral appearance. Abrakadabra supports most European languages and has thematic emoji symbols. The text can be customized by using stylistic sets or the Swashes and the Stylistic Alternates buttons in the OpenType panel.

The headline text was hand lettered in an extra bold serif type face with engraved [incised] lines. The lettering has been redrawn as the digital type face Movie Usher JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Oktah Neue is an extended version of a more limited Oktah family. Since its release in 2019, Oktah Neue received two major updates, the most recent in June 2022. The latest version of Oktah Neue is comes in 22 styles as well as one variable font. Fragment Pro Inline is a part of a larger OpenType font family (see also Fragment Pro). It is an elegant, soft and decorative typeface built on classical proportions. Its outlines have been carefuly crafted with a high attention to detail, so it could be used even at very large sizes. Fragment is a layered typeface – you can either use the standalone version of Fragment Inline or combine its two layers (Lit and Shadow) to achieve various color effects. It is not recommended to use “inline” layers separately. Instead, choose the separately sold Fragment Pro, which has been significantly optimized for standalone use. Fragment has been conceived to be used as a display typeface in publications, titles, logotypes etc., but it is surprisingly legible even in smaller print sizes. Alecko is a distinctive didone-style typeface, which is strongly influenced by calligraphy, but is at the same time drawn with mathematical precision. Its advantages are summarized in its slogan: “One typeface, many possibilities”. Once you decide to use it, you can alter its look in a variety of ways: Should the contrast between the horizontal and vertical strokes of the glyphs be high or low? Is it appropriate to apply engraving to the letters (and what color?). Should the glyphs be connected to one another? Alecko is equipped with a lot of alternative characters, which are automatically inserted as you type, in order to achieve a “handwritten” look, however, it can also work without them. ITC Luna is the work of Japanese designer Akira Kobayashi. He turned to the designs of the 1930s for his inspiration for both ITC Luna and ITC Silvermoon. Luna is designed to fill the gap between a pure Art Deco display face and an ordinary text face," says Kobayashi. "It has an Art Deco style but is still fairly easy to read. It can be used in short passages of text. As for individual characters, I especially liked the distinctive O, shaded only on one side. Lowercase a and g are also unusual, but they are somehow legible enough in text matter." And for a finishing touch on his Luna, Kobayashi added the charming moon face as an extra character.
