The purpose of the original DIN 1451 standard was to lay down a style of lettering which is timeless and easily legible. Unfortunately, these early letters lacked elegance and were not properly designed for typographic applications. Ever since its first publication in the 1930’s, several type foundries adopted the original designs for digital photocomposition. By early 2000, it became apparent that the existing DIN-based fonts did not fulfil the ever-increasing demand for a diverse set of weights and additional support for non-Latin languages. The reason why I chose to restore and complete this font is that unique and exceptional personality that each word acquires when it is written with this alphabet. Denedo is a typographic family in three styles: Denedo 1A, 1B and 1C. When mixing them in big sizes you will emphasize the balance and incongruity of its shapes, providing originality and a unique identity to every word. All of the 3 variations include a complete character set with the lower and upper case letters, numbers, accents, diacritic signs, punctuation and monetary signs. In 1931, The Times of London commissioned a new text type design from Stanley Morison and the Monotype Corporation, after Morison had written an article criticizing The Times for being badly printed and typographically behind the times. Condell Bio Poster is part of the bigger Condell family: a project that involves series of typographies that started to be conceived and developed since 2006. It also includes a bigger legibility version and a sans serif. Condell Bio is very versatile and can be used in the agroindustrial production. Thanks to its strongness and its charm, it can be used in different projects where a short and powerful message is required. For instance in a brand marketing campaign. The Condell project follows in terms of time the design of Comalle (a font also designed by Juan Pablo de Gregorio in 2006), but if we compare them, Condell seems to look for a major range of uses rather than a mere stylistic inspiration. And even if it keeps in its shape some organic forms, Condell seems to be much more similar to a sans serif traditional typography. Condell's fat and soft forms and its nice endings, inspired through spontaneous brush strokes, give it a very peculiar pleasant connotation. This font was created in honor of my husband for our 12th wedding anniversary. 14 years ago, I met this tall, skinny guy from Indiana in the lobby of a hotel in Hong Kong. We talked. The next day, we had lunch together. And that night we had dinner together. And the next day. And the next. We met just before my 19th birthday, and on my birthday he took me to the top of Victoria Peak, where we looked out over the city of Hong Kong- such a beautiful place to begin a lifetime of love! We spent 4 months together in Hong Kong, falling in love with each other and with the beautiful city we were privileged to call home for that short time. We married the next year. We've lived in Indiana, Texas, China, Kentucky, and Florida over those 12 years of marriage and have welcomed 2 daughters into our lives. Pocketknife is a simple grid-based titling font on it’s surface, but it has a surprisingly prolific set of features under the surface. The most notable of these features is an abundant set of ligatures that give Pocketknife it’s unique look. There are very few kerning pairs contained within Pocketwatch, and these ligatures fill in most gaps that could be created by letters with more empty space, such as L and T, and also give a more playful look to an otherwise sharp-edged typeface.
