Johann Neudörffer the Elder's 1538 writing manual fascinated the German designer Helmut Bomm for years. Together with Albrecht Dürer and Hieronymus Andreä, Neudörffer helped create Fraktur, perhaps the most Germanic of all the blackletter styles. As a tribute to this master, and bringing its letterforms to a 21st century public, Boom released the Neudoerffer Fraktur family through Linotype in 2009. Neudoerffer Fraktur's appearance is based very much in handwriting, and Bomm had already begun using letters from prototype versions of this typeface as early as the 1990s. For years, Neudoerffer Fraktur'sletters would appear secretly and seductively in design projects like historical sign restorations or heraldry pieces. The sources that Bomm used while drawing the typeface were images from Jan Tschichold's Treasures of Calligraphy" and Albert Kapr's "Schriftkunst." The Neudoerffer Fraktur family has four separate fonts. Any user of Adobe CS applications should consider licensing Neudoerffer Fraktur Regular (the font without any numeral suffixes). This font contains three different OpenType stylistic sets. Users can pick and choose which versions of the letters that they would like to set. Anyone using Quark XPress, Microsoft Word, or other applications without support for Stylistic Sets should license Neudoeffer Fraktur Regular 1, Neudoeffer Fraktur Regular 2, and Neudoeffer Fraktur Regular 3. The idea behind this design is to create a type family attractive and ownable for children but at the same time a design that keeps excellent letter recognition for reading. Handwriting has been a great source of inspiration in this particular typeface. By emulating the movements of the pen, we have obtained letter shapes that express spontaneity. A bright group of letters create a lively and beautiful paragraph of text. To get closer to handwriting and the variety of letter shapes that we draw while writing, this typeface offers a large number of alternative characters, which differ slightly from the default ones. Because we have programed the «Contextual Alternate» feature in the fonts, these alternate characters appear automatically as you set a text on your computer. The proportions and letter shapes are flexible, escaping from tradition to increase expressivity and personality in the design. For instance, variability on vertical proportions between letters Alef and initial Lam, create movement in text and avoid the cold mechanical feel of repetition. Nawin is quirky and elegant at the same time. Letter recognition is relevant when reading continuous text. For this reason, we have added another contextual alternate feature with alternate characters that help to avoid confusion when letters with similar or the same shape repeat inside one word. For instance, this is the case of medial «beh and Yeh» repeated three times continuously in the same word. The alternate characters change in shape and length, facilitating distinction to the reader. Since this typeface is inspired by handwriting and the free movement of the hand while writing, we considered ligatures a good asset for this design. Journal Hand was inspired by a 45-year-old travel diary I bought at an estate sale. The carefully constructed all-uppercase letters indicated that this traveler cared about style and legibility. Each picture, postcard and brochure that was glued into the diary had a neatly written caption and I admired the care this day tripper took to record his European trek. While the pages are now yellowed and falling apart, the handwriting is still legible and stylish. Because his handwriting totally suits today's uses, I re-created it in modern journalistic style that looks like it was written with a technical pen. Use this typeface when you need a neatly handwritten style. Uppercase only!

Bolívar is a contemporary display typeface inspired in the handwriting of one of the most prominent personalities of the Latin American 19th century: Simón Bolívar, “the liberator". The typeface intends to capture the passion of handwritten letterforms and to translate it into type. Among the characteristics that best contribute to its strong personality, are the impressive length of ascenders and descenders as well as the more than 45 degrees of slant. Bolívar mimics certain aspects of handwriting such as the slightly different baseline for each letter and ink clogs in the counters of some letters. Shift, Alphabet keys will give you caps Mah Jongg characters, tiles beside a letter of the alphabet. The "lower case" alphabet is the same letter font used in the caps but without a tile. The regular keys "1 through 9" are the actual Crack tiles with the correct oriental glyph. Numerals to match the "lower case" are found using Shift and the Number keys.
