Steelplate Gothic Pro is a sans serif font family with traditional and drop shadow weights. It shares letterform similarities to conventional Copperplate Gothic families, but has no spur serif endings. Most of the original designs came from the Western Type Foundry when BB&S acquired it in 1918; all were cut by Robert Wiebking. It was recast in 1954 by American Type Founders (ATF). Steve Jackaman (ITF) designed and produced a digital version of the original single weight in 1997. In 2017, Jackaman completely redrew and expanded the family, adding entirely new condensed variants and true small caps. Steelplate Gothic Pro has a masculine, industrial feel, and works effortlessly at display and subhead sizes. It shares letterforms with its sans serif sister family, Barnsley Gothic.

For over 30 years, Tomás Vellvé created beautiful graphics and distinctive typefaces in his native homeland of Spain. First drawn as a phototype display design in 1971, Vellvé’s only typeface in digital form is an uncommon solution to the problem of creating a new sans serif design. The end result, which bears his name, is a design that stands out from the crowd of other sans serif typefaces. The phototype version was only available in a single, light weight. With the release of the digital fonts, however, three additional weights as well as a companion italic for the light weight were created.The typeface designs were originally drawn for Agfa Monotype (now Monotype Imaging) in 1996 as part of the company’s “Creative Alliance” initiative. Through an exclusive licensing arrangement, the Vellvé™ family has now been added to the ITC Typeface Library.ITC Vellvé is a wide design with strong calligraphic overtones. Decima Mono – condensed geometric monospaced Sans Serif typeface, released back in 2009 and quite successful ever since (MyFonts Rising Star, February 2009). This new edition is an upgraded version of Decima Mono and Decima Mono X, combining both into one edition. New version supports more Latin languages with an extension to glyph amounts. LP Horizont Caps is another new font creation from German designer Peter Langpeter (lp-design.de). LP has been running his own design studio since 1995, working as a typeface and logo designer, as a calligrapher, cartographer and illustrator. It is characteristically more elegant and considerably sturdier than the typical condensed sans, lending to its singular disposition.

Creating a combination between serif and sans serif typefaces, Jotia utilises the best of both worlds, resulting in a unique and modern neo-humanist font family. Akagi started as a rough sketch while on a really long plane ride to Tokyo in 2007. I wanted to develop a sans that was a complete departure from my successful Aaux Pro (now Aaux Next) sans serif family. Whereas Aaux and its siblings are rather unforgiving and stark in their presentation, I wanted this new sans serif to "smile" at you when it's on the page. When the plane landed and I realized I did not sleep through the 15 hour trip, my brain shut off, the laptop closed and I hopped in the car to the hotel—forgetting the "new sans" folder on my desktop. Fast forward a few months and I found myself seeing a lot of crisp, rigid, robot-like sans serif typefaces everywhere... I enjoy these new crop of faces but wanted to see something "friendlier" and remembered my earlier sketch work. The groundwork was there screaming at me to complete and Akagi arose from the ashes. To be truly satisfied with it personally, a great deal of time was spent trying to create a harmony between line and curve in an attempt to show that you can be crisp, clean and legible and still keep some personality. The Light and Fat weights (regular and italic) are my favorites and I hope to see them as the workhorses of the typeface.

We’re in a lockdown of sorts (again) and things are pretty … uhm … boring at the moment. No going out for a coffee, no school (so the kids are at home), no meeting with friends… The new reality kinda sucks if I say so myself. Besides that, it turns out that we have a new dominant type of Covid in Holland.. wait, Dominant Type! Ahh, great name for my latest font! Dominant Type is a handmade all caps font. It comes with extensive language support (including Vietnamese) and 2 sets of alternate glyphs for that bit of ‘random awesomeness’!

Soliden is a neo grotesk san serif font family with solid letterforms. Designed and published by Eko Bimantara in 2022, Soliden became a suitable choice for large display and functional purposes. The letterforms are built in large x-height with spacious counters.
