I have no great love for walls, especially when they are built to keep people out. When I started working on this font, I realized it looked a bit like protest graffiti, found on… yes, walls. Down The Wall is a great little font: it is handwritten, messy and in your face. It has no real baseline and glyphs jump all over the place. Whiteblack is a slab serif with a soft touch, designed for contemporary typography and comes up with 6 weights for positive and negative settings plus handslanted obliques. In dark backgrounds, especially for signage and on screen, negative settings glow and appear heavier than positive settings. To avoid the „glow-effect“ the typeface contains special weights for an optimal balance between white and black. A large x-height and open apertures not only creates space for smaller sizes, but also lends Whiteblack a solid balanced and generous character for print and screen. Many OpenType features including 324 ligatures, contextuel alternates, and stylistic set built into all cuts. The font contains 1.076 glyphs with a wide range of flexibility for Latin language support for every typographical needs. Whiteblack brings elegance and a certain warmth wherever a contemporary slab serif typeface is needed, special for signage, brands, magazines and corporate design.

I became interested in designing Bodoni Classic because of a lazy graphic designer at Jacques Damase publishing house. He had to change a single letter on a bookcover about J. B. BODONI. The French call him Jean Baptiste instead of Giambattista! And that unknown graphic designer just took any old “J” from some newly cut Bodoni. All the new Bodoni cuts have square serifs, whereas the originals had rounded serifs and slightly concave feet. The single letter “J” with the squared off serif was for me like a road sign to start redesigning the entire Bodoni family. That’s exactly what I started in 1993 and a dozen years later I am finished. Okay, I am still adding new Bodoni Classics, but those are my personal additions. Recently I designed a family of seven »Bodonian Script« fonts, that can be mixed with most of my Bodonis. Yours very retro, Gert Wiescher

A friend once jokingly told me that what I really do is mine extinct arts for parts to use in modern things, like going to the scrapyard to pick up bumpers, quarter-panels and dashboards off of Datsuns and Ponies to build a shiny new Ferrari. I still kind of grin at that, but I certainly do spend a lot of time looking at old things and imagining ways they would work today. This shiny new Ferrari here is called Bibliophile, and it contains scrap heap parts from various pages by Louis Prang, the Prussian-American printer and publisher who inspired my Prangs fonts. This is my second engagement with the late 19th century man, and it’s quite a bit more intricate than just an italic Didone with a connected lowercase. Bibliophile marries Round Hand calligraphy with Italian capitals, two styles not often relayed in the same alphabet, but work together beautifully when combined well. When you combine them well with a few long-practised tricks of the trade, then mix in a few trusted features from my previous work over the years, you get my usual crazy exuberance, like 17 different shapes for the d, 21 different forms for the y, endings, beginnings, swashes, ornaments, and so on. It’s no secret that I can get carried away when I’m so consumed by an idea. — Bibliophile comes in 2 weights, each of them with over 900 glyphs covering all the latin languages. Bibliophile also comes with a bold weight, something I’m always reluctant to do with something as adventurous and complex as the structure of this historical mashup. But I couldn’t chase away the idea of increasing the contrast while maintaining the hairlines in a lowercase this narrow. Part of it was the curiosity about the outcome, and part was the sheer challenge of it. I think it turned out OK. Words set in either weight will show delicateness and elegance, and the more time you spend inside the font and micro-manage the setting, the more ways you will find to magnify either. Bibliophile can be as muted or luxurious as you want it to be. This is the kind of alphabet that fits well in fashion marketing and high-end packaging, from the very subdued to the super-exquisite. Enjoy the gleaming new vehicle made with freshly polished old parts.

Compass TRF is a reevaluation of an existing Compass typeface dated 2002. Compass is a geometric contrast serif typeface - "contemporary Didone". New Compass consists of four styles—regular, italic, alternate and flourish initials with small caps. Compass TRF is recommended for use as display typeface. It is suggested that flourish initials font to be used for decorative purpose only, not basic typesetting. Compass TRF generated as OpenType single master format with Western CP1252 character set.

Based on the lettering and graphic design of the Beat Generation era, Daddy-O was produced in conjunction with the Whitney Museum of American Art to coincide with the exhibition Beat Culture and the New America: 1950-1965. These way gone fonts and extras both capture and affectionately satirize the graphic design of the era. Package now features poet Rod McKuen in an updated version of the Beatsville album cover from 1959.
