TagBanger WADE1 is the first in a short graffiti font series. This series will showcase the hand-styles of various mature street artists that Okaycat is working with. This first release highlights the style of one such graffiti writer, WADE1, who has an eclectic writing style after many years proliferating street art. Long-term graffiti artists develop their own style over their careers, spending as many endless hours honing their letter-forms as any full-time professional typographical artist. Style, individuality, and originality are everything. These attributes are key to the graffiti artist's tao. A writer who copies, or "bites" loses respect -- their work will be painted over or "crossed out" by all other writers. Okaycat's TagBanger series aims to demonstrate just how widely these individual styles can diverge, likely due, at least in part, to the social pressures of a community that ruthlessly punishes copycats. WADE1's tags were transformed into vector format from a generous sampling of their most recent scrawls. Our TagBanger series may not be composed of the most legible or beautiful fonts, but we imagine there are uses for these whenever highly unusual handwriting is needed. The HWT American Chromatic set is a multilayered font set that will allow for thousands of possible color and pattern combinations. The original 19th Century Chromatic upon which this font set is based included two fonts. The HWT digital version includes eight. The alignment is configured to allow any combination of the eight fonts to all align when identical text is set and arranged, one on top of the other. Due to the highly decorative nature of this font set, the character set is limited to upper case only with basic punctuation. Five of the eight fonts in the set can be used individually as variations of the classic Tuscan style of wood type, which is defined by its concave stems and serifs. There are no accented characters due to the ornate nature of the design and because there were no accents originally intended for this design. This font is best used at sizes of 72 pt or larger and is ideal for a wide array of design uses. For webfont use, CSS with z-index and position will allow for easy online layering.

The ‘Hammer of Witches’, ‘Malleus Maleficarum’ or ‘Hexenhammer’ in German is the best know and most important treatise on witchcraft. It was composed by Heinrich Kramer in 1487. I thought it was a rather apt name for my latest fairytale font! Hexenhammer is a rough, handwritten typeface with an attitude. It can be used for book covers, posters and even spells. Comes with a bunch of end ligatures and a pandemonium of diacritics.

Ivan Bilibin was one of the best artists and designers of the Russian folk art movement of the early 1900s. His posters and his illustrative work are exceptional, and like many of the artists of the period he did a lot of hand lettering in various old-fashioned and modernistic interpretations of traditional Russian folk calligraphy. Our first Bilibin font is based on his lettering from an illustrated folk story by Alexander Pushkin.

Now Appearing JNL is a digital version of some hand-lettering spotted on an early 1960s ad for a Miami Beach night club. Its fun, casual appearance makes it perfectly suitable for any project that conveys a relaxed atmosphere. The font was intentionally not kerned, so the free-flowing form of the lettering is at its best, but it can be set tight by hand if a more compact look is desired.

Created in 2010 by Olivier Gourvat, Mozziano is an elegant cross between geometric and round shapes. Its post-retro style opposes also fine and thick lines. This font can be used for very short texts however it is particularly effective for headlines in larger point sizes so that its details are emphasized. Mozziano best used in experimental designs. Mozziano contain an extensive character set that includes support for Central and Eastern European languages.

Eldwin is a connected script type family with a friendly demeanour. The inspiration for Eldwin was drawn from traditional Italian and American sign paintings. Like the name suggests, the pi font Afroculture from typeface designer Boule Yvan depicts symbols and figures from African folk art. Stylized masks with different expressions and a number of sculptures lend variety to this font. The figures are consciously simple but shown from different perspectives. The black and white surfaces contrast with another and suggest the interplay between shadow and light. The figures of Afroculture are perfect for illustrating texts in a related context and their details come through best in larger point sizes.

ITC Scarborough was designed by Akira Kobayashi in 1998 to be reminiscent of the typefaces in advertisements of the 1930s. The special written form of the font has no connection between the letters and follows the principles of the brush scripts often used in the headlines and film trailers of this time. Kobayashi chose dynamic forms for his font, small yet robust with contrast between the strokes. The initial idea for this font came when a friend of mine asked me to create a logo for a sports team that he was forming. Since it was a martial arts competitive sport, bold and striking lettering was needed to reflect that. When the logo was finished, I was really pleased whith the letters so I decided to create the entire font. Taurunum is made with intention to be used for display design (logos, posters, etc.), and combining the weights should give best results.
