Mesa is a revival of an old pointed Tuscan font from the MacKellar Smiths and Jordan type foundry called Broad Gauge circa 1874. This new version offers a few alternates including half slab and full slab uppercase A's. Opentype case sensitive forms are also included in the Mesa font family. We started production on this font in 2009 but set it aside to work on other projects, we're pleased to have finally finished it. Sheet music for the song “The Little Thing You Used to Do” (from the 1935 motion picture “Go into your Dance” starring Al Jolson and Ruby Keeler) had its title set in what closely resembled Bank Gothic Condensed. [Bank Gothic was originally designed by Morris Fuller Benton for American Type Founders circa 1930.] This reinterpreted version is now known as Stenographer JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Rock Concert JNL is a playful free form type design inspired by the opening title and credits for the 1964 motion picture comedy “Send Me No Flowers” starring Rock Hudson, Doris Day, and Tony Randall. Strongly resembling hippie movement poster lettering of the mid-1960s, this fonts fits well with any retro project emulating the “Peace and Love” movement or (as its name implies) re-creating period piece rock concert posters.

The musical was based on the hit 1933 stage play that introduced the song "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes". The play itself was based on the Alice Duer Miller novel "Gowns by Roberta".
