Typefaces with very thin verticals and fat, square serifs were popular in the 19th century for display. Hollywood helped associate this style with the Old West, but reference books identify some of it as Italian style. WyomingSpaghetti, part of an extended family of typefaces, has a name which combines these two associations. Most typefaces of this type are very condensed, but this one is not. The letter o is nearly circular, which is rather unusual in this style.

The starting point for Wildcat was the 3×5 squared grid popular for tiled lettering and American sportswear typefaces. However, Wildcat breaks free of the net whenever necessary. Endgame font was made using a very, VERY bad brush and Chinese ink. I had bought a bunch of brushes some time ago and I discovered that the hairs had been treated with some goo to keep them from sticking out. The goo didn’t really come off, so when I started to draw the glyphs for this font, the brush strokes were kind of wild. In the end, I really liked it (even though I will never again buy that particular brand of brushes). Endgame is a wild brush font. Comes with the works: diacritics, ligatures and alternates.

Morning News is the sister font of Evening News which I designed some years ago for use with my local newspaper Abendzeitung. Morning News is an adaption, a little bit rounder, which gives the font a much softer touch. The Morgan Project can be considered a big type family with ‘many styles’ or a set of different types that match with each other. For me it’s one typeface with different versions with deliberate and visible differences according to the propose to which each version was created. The design started in 2000 as a display type with the design of the Morgan Tower, to which more two display versions were added; Morgan Poster and Morgan Big — all together the make our: FTF Morgan Display Kit 1. All three versions consist only in uppercase with alternate letters in the lowercase and a set of special ligatures. Morgan Tower has four variants that differ in width/weight, Morgan Poster has six variants (often called styles), three weights in upright and oblique and Morgan Big has twelve, six weights in upright and oblique. I decided to create Hebrewish because the only Hebrew Latino font I have ever seen didn't really live-up to my expectations. Each Roman letter and Arabic numeral in this font is based directly on one or more of the Hebrew characters. Originally I was tempted to create an upper case only - since there is no lower case in Hebrew that I know of. But, as this would have limited it's usefulness, I changed my mind and added a lower case also. Nevertheless, those who want to create very Hebrew looking text, need only use the upper case. I've also added some typical Judaic symbols for the artistic minded, e.g. David's star *, the Menorah ^(Jewish candelabrum) and brackets{ } based on this, as well as brackets [] which, used together, produce a 'Ten commandments' stone-tablet symbol(use this [~] for another version). In short, you can either have some fun with this font or use it for serious work - the choice is yours.

Inspired by the Roman lettershapes that Asensio y Mejorada drew in 1780, Frontis is a text typeface that takes this reference just as a starting point. This is a series that takes unfinished typefaces that were either previously ideated but not realized or were close to completion but left incomplete due to dissatisfaction with certain aspects, and brings them to completion. "Oorrnnoott" was originally a project named "Petitgothiquemignon" or "Sangoth". In the process of refining "Kropotokin", several ideas were incorporated into the design. Well, I say "incorporated," but it was designed on a whim, as usual. After all, it was started around 2005, and I don't usually leave notes or anything (which isn't the best habit), so I don't remember the emotions or thoughts behind its creation. Please consider this typeface as a very typical sans-serif font, as that is what I was aiming for when I excavated it this time. Please use it for body text, headlines, eye-catching designs, or whatever you like.

A companion piece to Mulgrave, this font is the intermediary design between the chunky Victorian style that Mulgrave reproduces and the Ministry of Transport sans introduced in 1933 and digitised as Ministry. Although they date from between 1910 and 1933, these signs show the beginnings of several features Ministry later incorporated, notably the thinner strokes and the more modern forms of the G, M, R and S. The letter widths are approaching a monospace - the L, F and E are relatively wide compared to the W and M, a feature that may have something to do to the casting process. These idiosyncracies were all ironed out when the first version of the MOT alphabet was produced. The Device digitization, as with Mulgrave, stays true to the worn and repainted original metal source material and preserves the unusual widths.

Lapis was Jim Rimmer's venture into a territory he'd earlier explored with his Lancelot and Fellowship faces. This time he stayed much longer, dug pretty deep, and had plenty of fun in there. The end result is the kind of mosaic of influences only a guy like Jim could consider, gather, manage and apply in a way that ultimately makes sense and works as a type family. On the surface Lapis seems like something that can be billed as what Jim would have called an "advertising text face". But under the hood, it's a whole other story. On top of the calligraphic, nib-driven base Jim usually employed in his faces, Lapis shows plenty of typographic traits from a variety of genres, from Egyptian to Latin, from blackletter angularity to Dutch-like curvature, with an overall tension even reminiscent of wood type. There are some Goudy-informed shapes that somehow fit comfortably within all this. Then it's all strung together with a mix of wedged, tapered and leaning serifs, placed with precision to reveal expert spontaneity and a great command of guiding the forms through counterspace. In the fall of 2013, the Lapis fonts were scrutinized and remastered into versatile performers for sizes large and small. In 1904, Cohan was enjoying success with his latest creation, "Little Johnny Jones". Cohan gave America what would become a number of iconic songs, and both he and his compositions were immortalized in the 1942 biographical film "Yankee Doodle Dandy" starring James Cagney. Winter Garden JNL was modeled from the eccentric sans serif hand lettering with varying line widths found on the sheet music of 1917's "When the Girl You'd Give the World to Win Gives Her Heart to You". (It seems that sheet music from the early 1900s often had song titles that were more than just a few choice words. This particular ditty's title took up fourteen words to make its point.) The font is available in regular and oblique versions and gets its name from both the famed theater in New York and the city located 14 miles West of downtown Orlando, Florida.

Big Sur is a six-width slab serif font family with a unique look. At first glance, it is clearly in the tradition of old west style alphabets, with its chunky top and bottom strokes and serifs. But it also features a whimsical vibe in the curvy and pointed flourishes, the wavy baseline, and the swash terminals on many of the glyphs. It's a true standout with unique identifiers, and is bound to grab the eye as something new and different; yet it's traditional enough to establish a solid Western or vintage Americana style. Made in La Chaux-de-Fonds (Switzerland), Hyper Top is born while the designer (Bisou) watches "One from the Heart", a movie from Francis Coppola where Las Vegas is completely rebuilt in studio. The opening scene stages the signboard of the Dunes hotel and casino. This is the starting point of the most modern font ever designed by Bisou. Hyper Top is thought from ground up to give a strong impact. Dynamic, joyful, fast, this modern bold font is best suitable titles. It works perfectly with short texts for advertisement like candies, fireworks, protein bars or chewing gums. Just hang it over a prank and trap shop and see the coolest bad ass kids come in.

Chenko is a nod to Alexander Rodchenko the Russian Constructivist artist and designer whose poster work is characterised by its stark, stripped down typography and bold, geometric graphics. It was truly revolutionary in its day, and continues to be influential in ours. Chenko is my own take on his deceptively simple letterforms, and designing a font without a curve or a diagonal (okay I cheated on a few details like the O-slash and A ring characters) presented some interesting design challenges!

A very glitzy Blitz! I always wanted to design a typeface that was top heavy, but I never knew how not to make it look like Antique Olive, until recently -- I had an idea. My new family is very readable despite it beeing top heavy, thin on the low end and thick on the upper end. The font gets a special shine because of this effect. The idea started with the 1934 sheet music of “Mazurka Amabile”. Its hand drawn title had most of the letters rendered in a rectangular shape [‘square’ in the sign trade] that featured rounded corners and terminals made by the shape of the lettering pen nib. A few letters were rounder in design than others, so those were scrapped in favor of a more consistent character shape throughout the font. Pen Nib Square JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.
