The original Lawabo was started many years ago by Rainer Scheichelbauer. Its ­minimalistic and rounded shapes are reminiscent of bathroom ceramics, hence the name. Schriftlabor designer Miriam Surányi added bold and italic shapes, and produced the family.

Raniscript started out as an idea for a bold and strongly structured ronde style script with some contemporary touches. As I tinkered with various forms it took on a life of its own. Having an old world feel, it makes me visualize faded shop signs from India written in English. The name comes from a series of colorful vintage matchbook designs advertising the Flying Rani. You'll find Raniscript ideal for packaging, book titles, brochures or anything requiring a robust display treatment. It comes fully loaded for OpenType savvy applications. Banda is a semi-serif typeface characterized by a tall x-height and rounded semi-serifs. Although it was first designed as a display typeface, Banda quickly evolved into more complex type consisting of seven weights plus their respectful italics. Banda can be used for short passages of text as well as a fancy display type. Impakt is the work of British designer Leonard Currie, a cold, condensed typeface inspired by the Soviet Constructivist movement of the 1920s. Impakt's powerful geometric appearance makes it an ideal choice when a commanding, masculine effect is required.

P22 Albemarle is a smooth reworking of the popular rough textured Roanoke font. The texture change gives this style a much more elegant effect, yet retains its skilled capturing of historical handwriting. The bold weight is credited to Morris Fuller Benton (ATF 1916), but it is highly probable that Benton did the adaptation for both weights. This series of faces was designed initially by Morris Fuller Benton, circa 1900. The design is a refinement of Taylor Gothic from 1897. It features a sans serif thick and thin design with angular stems. Pre-dating art deco, this design feels quaint, yet it still has a touch of modernism. Frederic Goudy designed a bold version of Globe Gothic in 1905 for ATF. The Bold and Bold Italic digital versions have been added to the LTC library in early 2007.

Laureen is a clean, smooth-edge, casual script with many potentials made possible by its 429 glyphs and great legibility. This TrueType font was manually kerned & edited for its semi-connected and informal look.

The purpose of the original DIN 1451 standard was to lay down a style of lettering which is timeless and easily legible. Unfortunately, these early letters lacked elegance and were not properly designed for typographic applications. Ever since its first publication in the 1930’s, several type foundries adopted the original designs for digital photocomposition. By early 2000, it became apparent that the existing DIN-based fonts did not fulfil the ever-increasing demand for a diverse set of weights and additional support for non-Latin languages. Parachute® was set out to fill this gap by introducing the PF DIN series which has become ever since the most comprehensive and sophisticated set of DIN typefaces. It was based on the original standards but was specifically designed to fit typographic requirements. Amelia Jayne is Ted Staunton's updated revision and expansion of his own Amelia decorative cap font. Amelia Jayne started as a Roman font to accompany the Amelia initials but has taken on a new life as a Pro Roman font with small caps and several variations of new matching initial companion fonts. (The initials are not included in the pro font but come bundled with the set.)

Squalo, the genesis The idea of this project called Squalo popped into my mind while I was working with excitement on some sketches. I was chasing after a strong typographical character, something that for me has to be crystallized in form which is always legible and functional. The concept The concept of Squalo arises from the observation of an athlete’s body: you notice that even if most are lean, they are also strong, cut and chiselled. The sport they play molds and modify their bodies.  Just think, for instance, on a professional swimmer: during the competition every single muscle, tendon, tissue, cell is working to swim faster. Every single part is there to give strength and speed like in a “squalo” (shark in italian). Not as an eel, nor as a mermaid, nor as a hake. Just like a shark. If you take a quick look, you will notice that the width of the typeface is slightly more condensed than that of a standard sans serif. We designed Squalo this way specifically to assist and strengthen your concepts through stylized typography. We designed the joins and terminals (tip ends) of the characters A, V, W, Z, v, w, z, to create a feeling of “tension”, reinforcing the concept of shark, danger, caution, as well explicit, intentional movement. Pure strength. We wanted to recall the exact moment of the start of the 100 meters race: when the sprinter initially spreads all of his powerful energy. The italic version, starting with the former two typographical concepts of width and tension, emphasizes them. First of all, we compressed the characters 10 percent more, and slanted it 10 degrees to the right. With this movement I intended to convey the gorgeous feeling of tension in power and rapidity. The typeface has 9 weights, from “hair” to “black”, and two versions, “regular” and “italic”.  All 18 fonts include small caps, unicase, tabular and oldstyle numbers, numerators and denominators, and much more.
