The Elzeviriano Ibarra or 'Ibarra Gans' was a typography engraved by Carl Winkow in 1931 to Fundición Gans commemorating 50 years since the foundation thereof. It is designed to be used in the book-homage The Maestro Joaquín Ibarra . This type is a combination of the printers selected by Joaquín Ibarra, Spanish printer and typographer and Ezelvir family types, hence its compound classification. Gans Ibarra, designed in 2006 by Paulo W follow the concepts from the original designs from Fundicion Gans. Eckhardt Bold JNL continues a series of sign painter-inspired type designs and is named in honor of the late Al Eckhardt, a talented sign man who was a good friend of Jeff Levine for about 18 years until his passing. The font is available in both regular and oblique versions and was inspired by an example found in the 1928 edition of E.C. Mattthews' "How to Paint Signs and Sho' Cards". Both squat and wide for maximum use in wall and window applications, the original name for the design is "Heavy Plug". Plug was the sign painter's term at the time for describing this type of letter form.

Linotype Minos is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. This fun font was designed by Swiss artist Christian Goetz, who named it after King Minos of Crete of the Bronze Age. Typical of scripts of this time were the ornamental borders around the characters, found on palaces of Knossos, Phaistos and Mallia. These borders surround every character of Linotype Minos, making it exclusively for headlines in larger point sizes. Single characters can also be used as initials mixed with other alphabets, especially with constructed sans serif and modern serif fonts.

Sonrisa is a design that evolved from my sketches of the skeletal structure of Jakob Erbar’s Koloss, trying to discover its underlying essence without all the contrast and bulkiness of the original design. Sonrisa Thin was the resulting font, from which the other weights of the family were developed. Gentle curves, open counters, generous x-height, and sleekly tapered terminals give Sonrisa a very legible, modern, elegant appearance. When she saw the first draft of this typeface, the smile on my friend Jennifer’s face gave me the idea to call it “Sonrisa” (Spanish for “smile”). Jennifer, a clinical psychologist, described Sonrisa’s personality as: "happy, clean, clear, open, joyful, spacious, playful, calm. I can see it being used for body product lines such as oils and lotions. Can see it being used in home/travel magazines or even Architectural Digest. Yoga magazine, definitely." Sonrisa is what some foundries call a “Pro” typeface family with all the bells and whistles that provide typographic versatility: true small caps, oldstyle numerals, arbitrary fractions, discretionary ligatures, and other powerful OpenType features. All fonts in the family, except Sonrisa Titling, support most European languages, including modern Greek and languages that use the Cyrillic Alphabet. (Cyrillic glyphs designed in consultation with Ukrainian type designer, Sergiy S. Tkachenko.) Sonrisa is available in the original Thin, monoline version as well as six weights (Light, Regular, Medium, Bold, Extra Bold, Black), and a Titling font that is essentially a display font construction kit. If you enjoy using Sonrisa even half as much as I enjoyed creating it, then I know you will have a “sonrisa” (smile) on your face!

Conspired Lovers is based on five years of love-letter writing. A font to capture the intentions of love letters more than any other font. How did the Project start? In the last five years I wrote love letters with two persons. I became used to the joy of handwriting with ink and nib on fine paper. Through practice a experimentation my style continuously refined. As life moves on, suddenly I found myself with no one to write love letters to. It's a luxury to have someone to write letters to. Missing the joy of writing and listening to Gregory Porter’s “Be Good”, the decision was made to take this 5 years of writing and make this dance on paper a font. A handwritten typeface for everyone to use. This font was created in July, 2012 and named Conspired Lovers. A font to capture and convey your message in a special way to the beloved one close to your heart. With a long practice of writing crafted into the unique design I hope that you and the recipient of your writing will soon enjoy this design. Who doesn't want or need an expansive contemporary extended sans that has a sense of style and swagger… what if it had a lowercase, small caps and various numeral options… how could you say no? This was the foundational argument I made for myself when I drew the initial alphabet on my birthday last year (something I do each year, draw a new font, kind of a fun OCD thing). I wanted to see a wide, utilitarian sans that had more to it than just a basic character set and didn't resemble standard geometric models. As I continued sketching, the letterforms were being influenced more by my 'lettering tendencies' than the normal mechanical trappings of drawing flat, wide letters. The letters have retained aspects of letters created by hand — stresses, modulation, naturally ending terminals. Truncation and quick clipping of strokes became antithetical to the letterforms I drew, so I continued this once I brought the design into the computer. I kept it precise and dependable, but made every attempt to keep a conscientiously crafted typeface and not let it devolve into a grid-based drone. As such, it works just as well looking back in time as much as it does assuming a lead role in a sci-fi movie. Halogen does deliver and opts not to take a short cut and provide an anemic offering of glyphs — a modern typeface offered today must provide more than just the basics and this one does — lowercase, smallcaps, old style numerals, tabular forms, stylistic and titling alternates, fractions, case-sensitive features, and even an alternate uppercase ordinal set is included. So go make cool print and digital things with it, now.

A tessellation is a pattern in which a shape or tile fits together with copies of itself to fill the plane with no gaps or overlaps. One type of tessellation is formed with sides of center-point rotation, that is, one half of an edge is rotated 180 degrees to form the other half. If a square template is made with sides of identical center-point rotation, there are exactly four shapes that are possible. If these shapes or tiles are fit together not edge to edge but vertex to vertex, the result is a checkerboard-like pattern of tiles and voids. However, the voids have four edges formed by the four possible shapes that the tiles can have, so the voids are limited to the same four shapes that that make up the tiles. The FabFours have 22 tile families that allow a wide variety of fascinating patterns. They form one, two, three, and four tile tessellation. Eleven of the seventeen symmetry groups can be formed with these patterns. In each tile family two of the shapes have two possible orientations, one shape has four possible orientations, and one has eight, for a total of 16 tiles. Each font has two families, one on letters A-P the other on a-p. For some of the families there are also other tiles using the same edge but using triangular and hexagonal templates. To get proper results, the leading must be set equal to the point size of the font. I discovered these fabulous families and their decorative possibilities as I was working on a book about tessellations. I have not been able to find anyone else who has written about these families of four and their decorative possibilities when arranged vertex to vertex.

Village was originally designed by Frederic Goudy in 1903 for Kuppenheimer & Company for advertising use, but it was decided it would be too expensive to cast. It was later adopted as the house face for Goudy's Village Press. The design was very much influenced by William Morris's 'Golden' type. Paul Hunt began working on a digital version of Frederic Goudy's Village type prior coming to P22 in 2006 for an internship (which evolved into a staff designer position at P22.) Around this time, The Tampa Book Arts Studio was looking for a digital version of Village to complement with a letterpress edition of a book called "The Rich Mouse" by JJ Lankes. Many years later the Rich Mouse project has been completed, so we decided to release the Village type on the same day as the release of the Rich Mouse Book!

MotionBats are a sort of movable type otherwise. It is a symbol font type family integrated by 9 styles. The idea behind designs is to give to typographic pictograms –static for definition– the dimension of motion. In pursue of this spirit, each font shows a complete motion sequence. MotionBats are inspired on the photographic work of Eadweard J. Muybridge [1830-1904] –a talented multi-faceted Englishman– who worked in USA by the second half of the 19th century. In those early times of photography, he started –almost by chance– taking a comprehensive and impressive photographic sequential series of human and animal locomotion. This way, he placed himself more than a decade ahead from the beginning of cinematography. This type design family points to pay a humble and certainly incomplete homage to such a pioneering and amazing Muybridge's work.

Etalage Script was drawn for the first time in the year 2000, based on a early 20th century lettering stencil with what farmer Boelema at Lalleweer stenciled his grainsacks. Eventually the script letter was developed as a typeface with a wink to the ‘lost’ display types for the ‘display window’ of graphic designer Ariënne Boelens, who in exchange made the website www.lalleweer.nl. What originated the Ariënne should be evident now.

This unique type treatment was born after working in a mixture between a pixel based font and a retro logo. With lot of details it looks great a bigger sizes, but you can also apply it to write long sentences or even as body text! This font was chose as the official online font of our favorite band Foo Fighters some time ago, when it was just a work in progress.

Inspired by a piece of cigarette pack lettering designed by the renowned poster and type designer A.M. Cassandre (perhaps best known for his Peignot typeface), Geetype evokes a 1920s & 30s mood and is an unusual, eye-catching single weight display face. Think vintage hand lettered poster campaigns, Hollywood's golden era and a time when smoking was positively encouraged. Think Greta Garbo, another 'g' with strong, emotional screen presence.

I designed this font because it didn't exist - it’s based on hand rendered type created for black and white line marker scamps used in the advertising industry. I use it that way and it’s saved me a LOT of hand-rendering time over the years. Of course, Scamps works as an informal marker script in its own right too. I’ll be interested to see what you do with it.

At one time, the Hampton Publishing Company of New York specialized in producing reading and activity books for children. The “Letters and Numbers Stencil Book” (probably from the late 1940s or early 1950s) was the basis for Kiddie Stencil JNL. This bold sans serif type style replicates the handmade steel rule dies used for cutting the stencil pages of the book, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Tipo Pèpel strikes again with a lush splurge on pure basic geometrical shapes and sizes, those that inspired Paul Renner’s typographic milestone “Futura”. A new look to classic shapes, bringing them back plenty of delightfullly details as the lowercase cursive forms’ long tiles that break the supposed linearity expected from a purely geometrical font. Rhythm given by hidden details in each character of each weight, push “Naste” out of German geometric sobriety, will help us to easily create typographic hierarchies upon the many weights available and the many and accurate details. Excellent results with minimal effort. Wide ‘x’ height, restrained ascending and descending stems; thick but elegant, easy to read and in need of generous white space around, where it feels comfortable. More is better than less. As usual in Type Pépel, full sets of Opentype alternatives and Unicode support for 104 languages ​​plus Cyrillic. 16 weights of typographic beauty in all its glory.

The ‘Hammer of Witches’, ‘Malleus Maleficarum’ or ‘Hexenhammer’ in German is the best know and most important treatise on witchcraft. It was composed by Heinrich Kramer in 1487. I thought it was a rather apt name for my latest fairytale font! Hexenhammer is a rough, handwritten typeface with an attitude. It can be used for book covers, posters and even spells. Comes with a bunch of end ligatures and a pandemonium of diacritics.

Aspidistra is a modern vintage typeface; which is to say a Studio K original with a period feel: it has a strong Art Nouveau influence (a distant cousin of Arnold Bocklin). Why Aspidistra? In the first half of the last century an Aspidistra was a must have accessory of the aspiring middle classes (see George Orwell's Keep the Aspidistra Flying), and to my mind this font evokes the chintzy charm of that era.

Abeille means bee in French. I am a little worried about the world's bee populations, as whole colonies collapse due to monoculture and pesticides. I have planted many bee-attracting plants in my garden and even put up a 'bee hotel' (which is full of tenants right now). Abeille is a hand drawn didone-ish font, kind of cute and happy, very legible and full of character. Abeille comes with a swarm of diacritics.

Obrigado means 'Thank You' in Portuguese. It is my way of saying thanks to the unknown designer of a Portuguese port-wine poster from the thirties. Obrigado font is based on that poster. As I had to work with a handful of glyphs, I designed the missing ones myself. Obrigado is a quite elegant and refined art deco font, which would be ideal for posters and logos. Obrigado speaks most Roman based languages.

Collage BB font was created for visual imitating of cuted paper Serif letters. The idea was to imitate kid’s clumsiness and irregular shape of letters.
