Afronaut PRO (New version of typeface published in 2019) was inspired by vernacular Latin & Arabic typography in St. Louis (on Senegal-Mauretania Border, Africa). Geometric forms working well and contrasting with smooth, round elements. After reading "Afronautics – from Zambia to the Moon" by Bartek Sabela (about Zambian conquest of space) a breif was set to create typeface that looks like mix between: vernacular Arabic script, futuristic typography and some special lettering that I found in Africa during my travels to Guinée, Bissau, Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania and West Sahara. Afronaut has seven weights, also many letters have 3 different forms. Afronaut PRO can work as regular version of my Yalla Typeface.

The last couple of years felt like I was living in a bad dream: I witnessed crazy leaders, climate change and now Covid. I usually name my fonts after things that affect me and this one is not different. Dreamworld is a font I made with a cheap marker pen I liberated from my kids’ pencil box (I will put it back, pinky promise…). It is a bit rough, but also very easy to read and distinctive enough to make your work stand out. Of course it comes with extensive language support (let me mention Vietnamese again…) and two sets of alternate glyphs, that cycle as you type.

Besides all the display and script typefaces I design, my real passion is to design typefaces for copy. Safran is the first of my sans serif workhorse families available from Myfonts. This is my first fontrelease in 2021, and it's one of those "things will get better soon" kinda fonts (Here I am thinking about 2020, which was a year I am glad we just left!) Anyway, the first thing I ate in 2021 (not counting the "kransekage" after midnight) was a delicious and lovely tuna sandwich - or as I called it: Party Toast! Heh-heh! :) Well, it is a playful font with it's jumpy and slightly quirky letters. I've added 5 different versions of each letter and they automatically cycles as you type. I cross my fingers for a 2021 where everything gets back to normal!

P22 Kirkwall is an unusual and elegant design. The upper case letters have a slightly curved stem that ends in a small serif and wedge crossbars. The lower case letters have a fluid and easy design with end-hooks and long leading serifs. Kirkwall Trim and Bold Trim styles contain an alternate set of lower case characters without the long leading serifs and end-hooks. P22 Kirkwall is appealing for display work and appropriate for short texts and headlines. Many of my typefaces like Narziss and Mommie and also NewLibris or Verse are rather feminine. With Motora Sans I wanted to be the opposite. Masculine with a smell of gasoline and sweat. Technical and angular. Strong and self-confident. The weights are laid out in the usual way I create my families. 9 weights up to a strong UltraBold, all with italics. My family and I recently bought a fixer-upper farm from the 1930 and I have been renovating and building for the last three+ months. I have a lot on my mind (as you can imagine), so I write little notes to keep track of what I need to do. Of course, since I’m often in the middle of something that needs to be done NOW, these notes are kind of messy. Font naming is not all that difficult. Take Printout for example. I was busy working on this font, when my niece came over with a poem she needed to have printed. One of her classmates had the same request (they’re writing poems for our national Remembrance Day). As I was printing out these poems, I thought the name Printout would be perfect for the font I was working on. See? It’s not rocket science! Printout is a totally awesome, completely handmade font. I used an almost dried out Japanese brush pen to get the eroded effect. Maybe I should name my next font ‘Dried Out Brush Pen’? I’ll let you know.

NorB TypeWriter is my emulation of the IBM Selectric 'Light Italic' ball witch was used by my grand-brother for his correspondance during the 70’s and 80’s. It's however a slanted mono-spaced looking typewriter font. You may want to use this font with any word processing program for text and display use, print and web projects, apps and ePub, comic books, graphic identities, branding, editorial, advertising, scrapbooking, cards and invitations and any casual lettering purpose… or even just for fun! Acre is a geometric sans-serif type family of eight weights that's both inspired by and named after my great grandfather, Tex Acre. Tex was an artist and sign maker whose handcrafted signs illuminated the roadsides of the American Midwest and typified mid-century Americana. Acre is a tribute to him, his work, and many of my favorite early 20th century geometric typefaces. With eight weights ranging from Thin to Black, Acre is an extremely versatile family that can be used for display, text, or anything in between. Acre offers full European language support plus many OpenType features such as tabular and oldstyle figures.

Macha shares the same DNA as its sibling Anago, but is a completely different species than the former or any of my other sans serifs (Aaux Next, Air, Akagi Pro or Wasabi). It's no-nonsense construction bears many influences from Gill Sans and Frutiger while stubbornly blending my own humanist touch. The focus on developing Macha was just to get to the point with each letterform and discard the rest. Macha takes a little but gives a lot. A fully-loaded character set includes: Small Caps, Proportional Lining and Oldstyle Numerals, Tabular Lining and Oldstyle Numerals, Fractions, Ordinals, Inferiors, Superiors, Stylistic Alternates, Ligatures, Case-sensitive, and more.

There's a little restaurant in an old house on a sidestreet in town (Rockland, Maine, USA) called Cafe Miranda. The staff is friendly, the setting intimate, and the appetizer a basket of hot bread fresh from a brick oven. Its ample menu features such entries as "Quasi-Cassoulet" and "Gentle Sole." It's among my favorite local places to dine out. But the menu got photocopied once too often, and Cindy's personable handlettering got faded and broken. So I took matters into my own hands. And here's what I delivered to the newly computerized folks at the little restaurant on Oak Street. You, too, can travel in rather heavy felt-tip style.

There's something about the endless variations of handwriting, the tactile process of pen, pencil or brush to paper, and the personal and ephemeral quality as a whole. I recently came across some old handwritten letters from when my younger sister was going to college, and as soon as I saw them, a flood of memories came back to me. All just from seeing her handwriting. That's just one thing handwriting can do. I hope you find enjoyment in my sister's handwriting as much as I still do. This font is complete with alternates that will auto-typeset via the ligature feature to give a more handwritten feel.

Storefront is what the prolific and talented American sign painters of the 1920s and 1930s would have created if they had access to the advanced lettering and type technologies we have today. Rooted in an incomplete Alf Becker alphabet sample, Storefront is my usual overdose on alternates and swashes, my eternal attempt at giving typesetting that ever-elusive handmade impression. Though the main shapes, especially the majuscules, are almost a standard recitation of the natural evolution of nineteenth century scripts, the additional variants available within the font provide a leap in time to what sign makers and packagers are doing today. I can honestly say that Storefront’s influences are probably less historic and more in line with my recent travels and frequent supermarket visits. It’s difficult to avoid current visual culture when you're constantly bombarded with it. Not that I try. I certainly welcome the overflow. I'm probably addicted to it by now. With a very cool aesthetic, plenty of alternates and swashes, extended Latin language support, Storefront is over a thousand glyphs for your branding, packaging, and sign making pleasure.

Once upon a midnight dreary, this Comicraftsman pondered, weak and weary, For a name synonymous with Mighty and Marvelous comics lore. Solid, Outline, Inline was the nameless font I'd crafted, I nodded, nearly napping o'er the work I'd grafted When suddenly came a tapping, As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my cubicle door. "'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my cubicle door-- Calling out "EXCELSIOR!" Then an Amazing Vision beguiled my sad fancy into smilin', By the Spectacular decorum of the countenance it wore, "Though thy crest be shorn and shaven," he said, "thou art sure no craven, And thy font should not remain nameless here forevermore!" Eagerly I wished the morrow; vainly I had sought to borrow From comic books surcease of sorrow, letters that called out "EXCELSIOR!" Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking Fancy unto fancy, thinking of the nominative neuter singular thing Like Some Silvered Surfer wandering from the Nightly shore-- The Vision shrieked, upstarting--"Tell me what thy lordly name is thus!" Quoth the Craftsman: "EXCELSIUS!"

I do a lot of taller, narrower handwriting fonts; this time around, I was inspired to make a wider, shorter handwriting font! MUGGSY has everything you expect from one of my fonts: clean and smooth curves, a full set of alternates, and a feeling of fun! MUGGSY has two uppercase-height alphabets (with a few lowercase-style letters like a and e in the lowercase set), plus a full set of 63 "smallternates" -- the same letters, numbers, and ampersand sized down to 75%, and beefed up in weight so they can be mixed in with the full-size letters. Plus 30 double-letter ligature sets, and a few additional alternates for variety! You also get a ton of punctuation, and my usual 300+ extended Latin characters for language support, for a total of over 600 glyphs! And just because you may want things a bit heavier, I've also made Muggsy Heavy, a bolder weight of Muggsy with all of the same alternates and extras. Enjoy, my fonty friends!

In the early 1980s, at the start of my career, I had the opportunity to work in a print shop with classic lead setting. In those days I would study issues of U&lc magazine from ITC. What really caught my attention were scripts in the Spencerian style. I’ve been fascinated by this American penmanship tradition ever since. A few years ago I developed a font. Boris Bencic used it when he was redesigning L’Officiel magazine in Paris. I took these initial forms and developed them into the font Mommie when I started my own foundry. Although I usually design text typefaces, working on Mommie taught me how complex it can be to create a script headline font. The biggest challenge in this process has been to keep it alive and fresh. The Regular weight is only made for very big headlines. The thin lines with the bold drops are very elegant. For smaller sizes use the Medium and Small weight. It won the TDC 2008 award and was Judges Choice of Christian Schwartz.

While in the same vein and spirit as Burgues and Compendium, Bellissima began from an entirely different thread from those fonts. It started with Alex Trochut generously showing me a gorgeous lettering book from his grandfather’s library: Bellezas de la Caligrafía, by Ramón Stirling, 1844. Stirling was one of the Latin calligraphy pioneers who introduced a refined version of English calligraphy in Spain and made it popular in the nineteenth century. Some scans from that book served as initial basis for the caps in my Poem Script. But it was always in the back of my mind that I should do a copperplate, and the Stirling model was the perfect source. My intention was to veer away from Stirling’s exuberant ornamentation, and work within simplified forms of his ideas. As it usually is with most of my projects, Bellissima became its own bird and shaped its own flying patterns. Suddenly there were many ligatures, multiple endings and swashed connections, hundreds of alternates for both uppercase and lowercase. Bellissima has an effusive energy that appeals much beyond its sourcing. It’s intended for these modern times of appreciation for old crafty things like stationery and letterpress, where its origins help it shine brightly. Bellissima Script Pro is a complete font with almost 2000 characters full of alternates, swashes, ligatures & ornaments covering a wide palette of latin languages and Bellissima Script Redux is a random sample of glyphs totally usable with a reduced price.

The late-19th-century Prussian-American printer and publisher Louis Prang, the “father of the American Christmas card”, was well-known for his efforts to improve art education in the United States. He published many instructional books and even founded a training school for art teachers. One of the books he published included a series of alphabets for sign painters, lithographers, illuminators, architects and civil engineers. There was nothing truly original there — in the book’s preface, Prang says that the alphabets were “based on foreign forms and adapted for American taste”. The one alphabet that caught my attention in that book was one simply called “Italic”. It’s a high- contrast modern, a Didone really, but with an interesting little twist: the lowercase is almost entirely connected, which makes for an interesting mix of modern typography and classic calligraphy. That stuff is right up my alley now. Whenever my eyes happen on a modern, it’s easy, even almost impulsive for me to envision swashes coming out of serifs and terminals. The caps melt and the minuscules dance with them. And so I brought my vision to life. Prangs is an italic set of three weights, each containing more than 1400 glyphs with plenty of OpenType features and Latin language support. This set celebrates the convergence of three centuries of fancy display alphabets. These fonts should work wherever moderns are used to elevate and scripts are used to appeal — namely today’s branding, packaging and glossy publications.

Hounslow is closely related to Acton in structure, and takes the latter’s simple block construction into the third dimension. Three variants – open, solid and shadow – can be freely mixed in one setting for effect. Originally designed solely in the italic variant, an upright was added by request. A further unreleased set with a range of line weights was later commissioned by the New York Times magazine, and used extensively in their television supplement.

In 1994, John Benson designed the typefaces Caliban, Alexa and Balzano, all with similar characteristics. The typefaces are distinguished by their calligraphic style and their closeness to handwritten script. Caliban looks as though it were written with a broad tipped pen, with reserved yet lively figures which retain their legibility. Caliban is a good typefaces to use in short and middle length texts as well as headlines, wherever a personal touch is desired.

The CriptoFont and CriptoFont Ornamental were to be used alone or together, providing a nice solution to the project, be it a book, an invitation, or many others. Cripto Font Ornamental has two kinds of ornaments, one used in the beginning of words or sentences (using the uppercase keys), and other to be used to close words or sentences (using the lowers case keys). Tassista means taxi in Italian. It suits this typeface well as the source of inspiration is the closing credits from the film Taxi driver, directed by Martin Scorsese in 1976. The typeface is designed to perform especially well in smaller sizes and makes it suitable for various credit copy, footnotes etcetera, nearly always presented in minor sizes. During the designs process it seemed more logical to make small caps instead of traditional lowercases.

Konnect is a geometric sans serif featuring a blend of modern, classical, and playful characteristics. The simple, clean forms and classically-inspired proportions give it a timeless quality and interesting rhythm. A large x-height, closed apertures, and horizontal/vertical terminals create a distinct appearance. It includes a wide range of weights, from fine and functional Hairline to hefty and confident Black, each with italics, all ideal for branding, advertising, logos, magazines, and more.

The hand-lettered title on a piece of sheet music for 1938's "Don't Be That Way" (as recorded by Benny Goodman) featured squared letters with rounded corners, slight variants in line thickness and interesting "overhangs". Additionally, some letters closed off on one end while others were opened, giving the impression of a slight "maze" effect. This unique song title was enough of an inspiration to be turned into Musical Arrangement JNL.

Bill Display is a post-Max Bill font, developed in close cooperation with the Max Bill Georges Vantongerloo foundation. MAX BILL Last universal scholar, most important design teacher of the 20th century: There are superlatives, always very enthusiastic, when the importance of Max Bill is discussed. The trained silversmith studied at the Bauhaus, with personalities such as Josef Albers, Paul Klee and Oskar Schlemmer. He worked as an architect, later as sculptor and designer.

Zapf International font is the work of German designer Hermann Zapf, formal enough for widespread use yet tempered with calligraphic warmth. Vigor in the italics is achieved more from design than from slant. One of the distinguishing characteristics of Zapf International is its graduation of weights. Light and medium are relatively close and equally eloquent for text. Demi is a full two steps heavier than medium and heavy several steps beyond demi.

Karben 105 Stencil is a contemporary stencil font. The stencil breaks in the letters are applied in a way that is sensitive to the forms of the character in pursuit of a more elegant stencil. Karben 105 Stencil is available in a family of three weights. Karben 105 Stencil is closely related to Karben 105 and Karben 205 . All of the Karben fonts feature an extended character set, including accented characters for Central European languages.

profonts Concerto and profonts Sonata are closely related to each other. In fact, the only difference between the two related fonts is in the upper case characters. Concerto's upper cases are more complex, swashier than those in Sonata. One is a perfect complement to the other, and that is why they are offered together at special rate. Jumbalo is a fun loving family suitable for a variety of purposes. This all caps display font is characterized by its loose, rounded features and balloon-like structure which gives it a retro vibe. The letters are closely spaced together to create a snug feel. Jumbalo would work well in a children’s book, retail packaging, or company logo. The complete family contains full and basic Latin, punctuation, European accents, kerning, and includes an outlined version.

Otoiwo Grotesk is an extremely versatile sans-serif typeface with a closed aperture. It features whopping 126 styles over 7 widths, each containing 9 weights with corresponding italics. The mood of the family ranges from fairy neutral in Normal and Condensed widths to very flavorful Compressed and Ultra Wide. Rich language support, which includes Cyrillic and spans 131 language ovarall, makes Otoiwo Grotesk a worthy choice for brands that strive to reach international audience.

A classic font design remastered by the type foundry Intellecta Design, from the extra-rare Bruce's New York typefoundry from 1882. Distressed and antique, use this font in display purposes for a stylized type design. Great display face for headers and antique-like projects. Contains a limited amount of letter designs. Using the "0" and "2" keys you get two different fleurons to start words. Use "1" or "3" keys to close words with fleurons.

HALIVELAVIERTA is a combination font between blackletter and serif, but I included it in the blackletter category because of the boldness and spacing that is close to a blackletter font, resulting in a font with a slightly gothic feel, vintage but also suitable for modern designs. Recht is a geometric sans with much attention to curvature compensations, classifying between classic geometric sans-serif typefaces and neo-grotesques. The family contains 10 weights with corresponding italics, Cyrillic script with inclusion of Ukrainian Cyrillic, and a bunch of OpenType features. Recht has a closed aperture and is extremely versatile, working exceptionally well in both headlines and long text paragraphs. You can use stylistic sets for added geometric or humanist flavour.
